Hurricane Sandy From Space

NASA

Just in case you thought the Hurricane hype couldn't get any louder, check out this dispatch from Weather Channel meterologist Stu Ostro:

- History is being written as an extreme weather event continues to unfold, one which will occupy a place in the annals of weather history as one of the most extraordinary to have affected the United States.

- REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE OFFICIAL DESIGNATION IS NOW OR AT/AFTER LANDFALL -- HURRICANE (INCLUDING IF "ONLY" A CATEGORY ONE), TROPICAL STORM, POST-TROPICAL, EXTRATROPICAL, WHATEVER -- OR WHAT TYPE OF WARNINGS ARE ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AND NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER -- PEOPLE IN THE PATH OF THIS STORM NEED TO HEED THE THREAT IT POSES WITH UTMOST URGENCY...

- With Sandy having already brought severe impacts to the Caribbean Islands and a portion of the Bahamas, and severe erosion to some beaches on the east coast of Florida, it is now poised to strike the northeast United States with a combination of track, size, structure and strength that is unprecedented in the known historical record there...

- A meteorologically mind-boggling combination of ingredients is coming together:

Especially since the track of the storm is going to have the eye of the storm head right towards Philly.

The places this storm will impact is most of Pennsyvannia, north east and south east PA.
Philly.
Delaware.
Jew Jersey.
New York City, Long Island.
New York State.
New England.

This has the capacity to affect the election, not in Obama's favor.

Agree.

It is aimed at dumbocrap strongholds. It might keep away the multiple voters.

They are trying to write the narrative that since this is a “ Historic “ storm that since Obama is the president that we should not be changing presidents in such a historic event.

BTW, I found a cool link under this Business Insider article to a bunch of New York City livecams, for those who want to follow this storm’s progress:

Good to hear...that way; when this storm rips the Statue of Liberty from its base, and sticks it, torch first, into home plate at Yankee Stadium; we should all be able to watch the video on YouTube. Can't wait!

Correction:
I should have said click “Watch the Live Video” underneath the headings “Coney Island,” “Brooklyn Bridge,” etc.

Not to make light or minimize the risk to people in the storm’s path- it was just funny to read the hysteria and then the bit about the beach erosion. “we’re all gonna die and the beaches eroded too!”

That reminds me of the days when Johnny Carson would mercilessly torment Dan “what’s the Frequency” Rather when at the end of his broadcast would stare straight into the camera and just say the word “courage”.I’ve seen it myself. Very strange.

Exactly....

Just use some commonsense, stay away from the coast/rivers/high water/ low laying areas... baton down the hatches, stay indoors, and everyone will be fine.

I have to agree with your School District on this one.

As the day progresses we know that wind velocity WILL pick up w/gusts into the 60+mph range, that coupled with heavy rain WILL bring down tree limbs and power lines. Not a good combo with running school buses or even keeping kids in a potentially dark, cold school (power failure risks are high across PA).

The safest place is to keep the kids home & buses OFF the roads. Gov. Corbett has declared PA in a state of emergency to I don’t believe these days will need to be made up.

That’s what I am focusing on... This is looking like “the perfect storm” they are talking about. We have had big issues with flooding here for some time... But we have NEVER seen a situation like this.

I think wind damage will be minimal at best, but the flooding will surprise everyone.

We’ll see, The Lord is in charge.

Hopefully, we wake up in the am and it has made a right turn!

:)

Schools are being converted to shelters.

Good to see them benefiting someone besides union members for once...stay safe.

FEMA is on the way! That means if you need help, you get diddly squat.

In Houston, we have to unload the FEMA water trucks by ourselves, gummit works 8 to 5 only.

FEMA said on weather channel use social media when the power goes out. Mmmm k.

My advice: get water and hunker. Eat everything in the freezer when it thaws. Get a good book and stay warm and dry.

Is this the same guy that said hurricane Isaac was going to hit “the landmass between New Orleans and Alabama”. That un-named land mass happens to be Mississippi, it’s now reffered to as “Landmassia” by some.

I already saw something like that in the movie Cloverfield, except the head of Miss Liberty fell onto downtown Manhattan.

The Merchant Marine Academy middies were on the dock screaming at him to come off the ice, but he just calmly rode back all the way home. EPIC!

Everyone ignores snotties. Unless there's a chore that needs doing. ;)

Latest map shows storm is moving slowly back northeast, off the coast.

I feel sure the models will be seen to be accurate. If you look at the latest flash animationsfor the Eastern U.S. at the NHC satellite link ( I think "water vapor" is the best representation, ) you will see the cause of this predicted turn as it's about to happen. There's a North Atlantic low with it's own cyclonic rotation that has been stationed there the whole time, and "Sandy" is just now coming up against it. By appearances, it will be squished back to the west, if that's not too technical :-)
