A senior House Democrat on Wednesday promised to introduce legislation requiring all presidential candidates to release a decade of their tax returns. The effort by Rep. Sandy Levin (Mich.), the top Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee, is aimed at presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who has come under increasing pressure to release more of his returns. The stunning lack of transparency from someone in pursuit of the highest office in the country highlights the need to change the law to require fuller disclosure, Levin said in a statement.

Lets start with the lack of transparency with the buffoon who now occupies the White House and goes by the name of Obama. Once he opens up his past records then we can talk.
Maybe the Pubbies should offer an amendment that all candidates must prove they meet the eligibility requirements for office (such as being a natural born citizen, for example).
Does the bill exempt Obama?
They don’t really want it to pass. If republicans force the issue, the democrats will back down.
Not to mention that its just more time wasting legislation.
Of course. Otherwise it would be Ex Post Facto and you know how much the Libs respect the Constitution.
Tack on the requirement that presidential candidates must also prove with a non-fraudulent, official birth certicate, that they are a natural born U.S. citizen and this thing would be thrown in the “circular file” faster than Barry headed off to a celebrity fundraiser.
Of course. Otherwise it would be Ex Post Facto and you know how much the Libs respect the Constitution.
Just amend it to require them to release their birth certificate and their college records too.
I say full disclosure is good for everyone involved.
Call me silly, but I feel safer when congress is wasting time.

Fine with me—let’s also include social security cards and selective service registration. Might also want to check on reason for loss of lawyer’s license and shady real estate deals. Also any felonies—such as use and distribution to friends of cocaine.
Bring it on!!!
Just amend it to require them to release their birth certificate and their college records too. And allow public examination of the original records.
I say full disclosure is good for everyone involved.
We’ll find out that Obama made a lot of money through Bain and probably has ties to other Mormon interests. And we’ll find out that the Kenyan was never eligible in the first place.
Just amend it to require them to release their origional unmodified birth certificate and their college records too. And allow public examination of the original records.

OMG these people are shameless. NOW they apparently are trying to say the laws were unclear for vetting Obama, and that’s the fault of the old dead white guys that wrote the Constitution of course.
All of a sudden DAJ (Day after Joe) we see something that looks like a setup for a defense of the Democrat Congress for not vetting their candidate properly.
“Change the law” being code for existing law being unclear.
Yes, the form Pelousi signed did NOT certify 0dumbo as elgigible. That should be included.
This is yet another oppportunity for ABO to win some points.
They’re just so clever, aren’t they? So thoughtful.

You can get away with this kind of outrage when you own the MSM 100%. That's why it's called the "state-owned media."
Ah! Silly me...
The fine people of Michigan need to toss this hack out in November. He can go fly a kite.
This is the same excuse that Algore used for his campaign finance violations!
Even if I wanted to show someone the last ten years of my returns, I’d be hard pressed to get past 5 or 6. Who keeps old papers that long?
On this he is exactly right.
Willard needs to clearly and smoothly state every time he is asked that he has complied fully with all legal requirements and that American Citizens are waiting on Hussein's college records, real long form BC, real SS card, real explanation of loosing his law license, etc.
Because after all, little bammy was perfectly clear that "nobody gets there on their own..."
.
Does anyone remember if John Kerry, who served in Vietnam, submitted 10 years of tax returns when he ran for POTUS?
I hope that Romney ignores them. This is a non-issue. We know he is very rich, but John Stewart is richer. So what???
Super. And twice annual surprise drug tests for all house and senate members. Results to be published on the house and senate web site.
Damn the GOP could not campaign their way out of a wet paper bag.
If I were running this campaign, I would instruct them to give the following answer:
“If we are to go down the road of demanding more documents from campaigns than the law requires I would suggest the president first unseal the reason he and the first lady were forced into surrendering their law licenses and also ask the president to stop all the obstruction in obtaining information relating to how he paid for his college education and this college records.”
I am sure that would give Obama the deer in the headlights look.
Do that 3 or 4 times and maybe the MSM would be forced into actually doing some investigative journalism.
The GOP in the House should take the bill and amend it to also require disclosure of all transcripts from institutions of higher education attended by a Presidential candidate and provision of a certified legal photocopy of the original birth certificate of any Presidential candidate, then vote overwhelmingly in favor of the bill as amended.
EXACTLY!!
Add a Selective Service Card Requirement to it too.
Its unconstitutional. The Constitution clearly states the requirements for President and releasing tax returns is not one of them. This law would require an amendment.
The Republicans need to introduce legislation requiring all presidential candidates to release their college transcripts and passport records.
Why stop with tax returns. Pass a bill that requires anyone running for “public” office to make all of their records public, going all the way back to the moment they are born. Don’t limit it to the president. Any politician running for public office must be an open book. That would have spared us the Obama debacle. It won’t guarantee we get the best candidates, but we will get squeaky clean candidates, at least on the Republican side. I doubt Democrats care about corruption or corrupt candidates. Republicans in the House should run with this opportunity to attach a few riders onto this trash.
no- they are not shameless; they just fight dirty because the GOP is a bunch of whimps....there are enough ideas in this thread alone that will not only make the rats back down but expose them for the hypocrites they are....do you really think the GOP will fight to add any of these ideas/items to the bill???
“.....there are enough ideas in this thread alone that will not only make the rats back down but expose them for the hypocrites they are....
Do YOU really think the RATS give a RATS ASS about being exposed as hypocrites? NOT ONLY do they NOT care, they’ll turn it all around, and make YOU the hypocrite before all is said, and done. Have you ever seen the Democrats “Back down”. They don’t do such things. They just change the subject until you forget about it, and then come back down the road with the same old stuff all over again.
Unconstitutional. The requirements for President are listed in the Constitution. They might also pass “must be a member in good standing of the Democratic Party for at leat five years”... and that would be unconstitutional also.
Not that the Evil Party cares, of course.
Republicans should just submit a bill to require all sitting presidents, congressmen and senators (and candidates for each position), as well as all federal judges, all cabinet members, and all “Czars” to provide the following records for them and their spouses or live-in “partners”:
- Birth certificates (original or certified copy)
- Selective Service registration
- All social Security numbers used
- Records of any other alias or name ever used
- All college records
- 10 years of federal and state tax returns
- 10 years of medical records
- 10 years of all financial records
Also require ALL elected officials, cabinet members and all other high level federal employees to submit a completed federal I-9 form and supporting documentation, as required of all other citizens, before they are permitted to enter federal employment.
That will be the end of the Democrats’ interest in that subject.
How about a bill that would require just one look at the presidents birth certificate?
let’s require anyone running for Congress to release 10 yrs of tax returns as well since I just read an article that 19 out of 535 Congress members released their tax returns. Yet old Pelosi screaming for Mitt to release more then 2yrs...while she hasn’t released hers at all...
Repubs can play along with this; the minute the Dem Congress members see the amendment and would have to release theirs, it will be dead in the water...
So amend away I say.....
Kerry submitted two years when he ran for President; however he did release returns while serving in Congress. Total of 20 returns. However, his wife, his has the money, didn’t release any of her returns.
