Recently I heard a friend of mine echo the sentiment former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker expressed in an interview with WND: I would vote for the devil himself over Barack Obama. People say this to make clear how deeply they abhor Obama and all his works. Sadly, for them and for America, their passionate hatred of Obama puts them exactly where the devil wants them to be. The Father of Lies chuckles with satisfaction. He gloats triumphantly at the fact that their hatred of his appearance in one form has maneuvered them into supporting his triumph in another.
I grieve deeply as I contemplate the fact that millions of Americans are letting themselves be caught in this diabolical snare. As I tried to point out in 2008, the lesser of evils is still evil. No matter how such an election turns out, people content to choose between Satan and Beelzebub have made clear their willingness to let things go to hell. Moreover, the nature of their choice is so clear to them that they practically boast of the passionate hatred that impels them to it. With this practical boast they become the willing, proud accomplices of the very evil they profess to hate.
Im morally certain this is why Christ admonished his disciples to make striving for Gods perfection the standard for their actions, rather than their hatred of evil. He thought it better to fail reaching for this standard than succeed by abandoning ones life to the devils dominion. He thought it better to fail in the worlds eyes while commending ones spirit to God (as he does on the cross) than succeed by casting ones lot with Gods adversary.
All this came to my mind this week as I read the excellent half-truths in David Limbaughs column

This is the part of the article that best explains my sick feeling for the future of this country. Even today, some of those pushing the most strongly for Romney admitted he will bring us to disaster, albeit more slowly. What a wasted opportunity to really move this country back toward greatness.
For Conservatives, the real fight will only start in November.
This is the most cogent and succinct rebuttal to the ABO crowd I have seen. Thank you Alan Keyes, and I weep for a nation that will not hear.
How right you are!

We need to vote in some boat rockers and then keep them in line. It won’t be smoothe sailing for either one of these global socialists.
Alan Keyes is a great American!!
I remember when he was a guest on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and seeing the absolutely childishly evil smirk on Leno’s face while Alan was singing after Leno invited him to. Alan should not have sang, but Leno’s glee is why I have never watched him since.
Rush says you nuts, he right. Romney is 1000 times better than Zero,
People who oppose Romney are Helping Obama.
I hate the STUPID THINKING,that they are the same.
I hate Romneycare, But it aint OBAMACARE.
I repeat:
How can ANYONE with one brain cell possibly consider voting to re-elect Obama? Answer
1. You are black
2. Welfare or government aid receiptant
3. Hispanic (go with the illegal tribe)
4. Liberal moonbat
AND
5. Stupid conservative that cant tell the difference between Romney and Obama and love conservatism more than American.
sigh... the world never presents us with perfect choices and something what’s available is downright lousy. one day the government will be upon Jesus’ shoulders, but no earthly election process will do that. ABO is not an absolute to the point of idiocy... there is no way this anybody could be, say, hitler. the debate is about whether this limit also applies to mitt. and for those who want to make a statement by refusing mitt a vote, if you do it as unto the Lord then you’re doing it right, just as would be the case for those who see a vote for mitt as a means to a better opportunity to increase goodness in the land (and to increase goodness automatically means to decrease evil). to deem, as some have, the latter group automatically to be blinded believers in some mythified savior is only so much illogical rhetoric. it brings lots of heat but no light.
i personally believe it will be easier to restrain the evil part of mitt than the evil part of obama. but that’s a qualitative judgment call.
i will also not suggest here how i think anybody ought to vote.
Communism vs. Extortion
Uses of threats or duress to gain others assets is an extortionist.
don’t directly irritate the jim too much or you will get zot. just a fair warning.
Obama can and will harm America if re-elected in ways that Romney wants to get nowhere close to.
I prayed all throughout the primaries for God to put into place the person He wanted to lead America back from its economic abyss. I believe many others prayed the same way. I didn't want it to be Romney but maybe God does. His ways are not our ways and we are to lean not on our own understanding but acknowledge His ways. I have to be spiritually open to the possibility that Romney could be a vehicle of good things God wants for America even with an unlikely messenger.
Perhaps I will be disappointed with a President Romney but I doubt he will make me long, even for a second, to see a second term of President Obama.
I'd love for us to have a president as foundationally strong as Dr. Keyes (whom I have voted for in past elections) but we are past that point in this election cycle. IMO, if you live in a swing state, you're either voting for Romney or helping to re-elect Obama. If you don't live in a swing state, you can be more creative with your vote.
You funny. Obama = evil abortionist record. Romney = evil abortionist record. There is no such thing as lesser evil. Evil = evil. No diff.
No to Obama! No to Romney! No to evil!!
I can’t help but stop for a moment to ponder how different the world would be in 2012 if the GOP had given us this man instead of Dole in ‘96 or Bush in ‘00.
about obamacare vs romneycare.
romney at one point was bragging about his romneycare as being a framework for national health care. obama tapped some of romney’s advisors in mapping out obamacare. it is not as though mitt is entirely without responsibility in the obamacare debacle. and it is still not clear how mitt wants to egg other states on to more romneycare... it is very possible that mitt will try to do that, with what success is a whole nother question. the usa as a whole is made of sterner stuff than just massachusetts and will push back harder.
however, it is true that mitt opposed the obamacare law. in fact every single rino did, let alone true red republicans. and mitt is promising to nullify it. i truly doubt mitt would welsh on that. it is one thing mitt has not waffled about since obamacare became law.
I don't hate anyone. I can't afford to.
I just won't vote for him. Ever.

Is all the conservative talk shoe hosts all and all the conservative politicians wrong about supporting Romney?
THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ROMNEY AND OBAMA AND IF YOU CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE YOU ARE STUPID.
the debate is, whether romney is still so odious he should be denied votes, just because. it’s the old means to an end debate.
and a remarkable thing i have noticed is that some of the folks who are the most vocal about never letting mitt get their vote, will then make the most sensible suggestions about how mitt can improve his chances in the national polls... and will cheer when they actually see mitt doing that and obama going down as a result. this spells c-o-n-f-l-i-c-t-e-d to me. but i’m just a lowly hi tech red neck.
There are huge differences between Obama and Romney. Is Romney perfect? Heck no! But he is 100 times better than Obama. If abortion is your primary concern, think what will happen if Obama is re-elected and gets to replace 1 to 2 conservatives. Also, nominate someone as “pure” but without electability, then you get another Keyes-Obama blowout. Respectfully,
Sometimes I feel like common sense is not quite so common.
"Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?"
OUTSTANDING post, Jim!!!
the only way to oppose some other fellow american’s ignorant vote for obama (in your state, if it is winner take all, or in a district of your state if it splits electoral votes) in a way that has a measurable hope of actually ousting obama before a second term... will be to vote for the gop nominee. now if a wipe out for obama is already assured, then you can vote for sarah palin or mickey mouse or nobody and make a statement without jeopardizing that wipe out.
Sigh, passion is not just a problem with the “Mittbots.” (Scare quotes very, very deliberate.)
You post like kindergartener. No listen.
Nor craven rationalization, solely with those unable to countenance same.
The very leftily practiced Mitt has to be “severe” just to approach some kind of mushy moderation. Mitt will tend left without that kind of effort. If there is room for optimism about the outcome of a putative Mitt win, it is that Mitt appears to acknowledge the need for the effort. Mitt has no reason to be ignorant that what flew in Massachusetts, with its predominance of screaming liberals, will not fly in the USA as a whole.
This does not mean Mitt is any sort or kind of savior. This shows him to be a deeply flawed man with a little bit of an inkling that he needs to do better. That won’t save his soul. But it may be the means of mercy to America.
Ah, you are saying being black is not a problem with white. Nice little self glorification.
It is ironic that apparent born again bigotry against Mormonism may cause additional harm to the unborn. Sorry folks, but if you don’t vote for Romney and you live in a swing State, your actions are, in effect, pro-abortion, pro infanticide. Romney is not perfect, but for the unborn, he is 1000 times better than Obama.
When you have to intentionally re-state another's words, solely in order to "defeat" a point entirely of your own dishonest creation: you've already lost the argument.
Something to think about.
Nailed it. Good article.
We need a miracle.
Or we need to get ready for what’s coming. There may very well be a heavenly reason our choices are what they are.
Mormon, schmormon. I’ve scarcely come across anyone who does not want to vote for Mitt, that complains that it’s because of his space case religion that he actually keeps pretty darn private (it’s not like Mitt, with his high church rank, has these big Mormon parties). In the fighting fundie church where I go, nobody has even mentioned the Mormon connection about Mitt. Their concern seems to be about Mitt’s policies and how they stack up to Obama’s policies.
Is this another kind of Godwin’s law? Find me the entry in the debate dictionary that proves anything remotely close to what you say. You are outright claiming you are the non-rationalization people. But you need to realize that rationalization can take short cuts that are overly reactionary as well as those that are overly lax. Yes it is possible to rationalize an opposition to voting for Mitt.
Every time someone bleats "anti-Mormon bigotry" in defense of Mitt Romney, what I actually hear is: I will gladly sacrifice [xxxx number] of babies, in order to get this man elected President.
I grow apathetic in studying either candidate as they are both enemies of Christ. Granted, their methods differ from one another, they simply fail to be faithful to Christ first in all things.
Sorry, but I beg to differ. Or were you being sublimely sarcastic?
Find me the debate dictionary.
You are bringing up the issue of knock-on effects in the political arena. And that may be a valid consideration. It may be like a game of chess in which one may choose to suffer setbacks to gain a later advantageous position (and then there is the debate about how). But you don’t need all that verbiage which simply emphasizes your passion.
I have no doubt it’s happening somewhere. I just haven’t heard people commenting on it personally. It’s even rare on FR to hear “I’ll never vote for that bleeping MORMON.”
There MAY BE a heavenly reason, eh?
There always is... to every detail we see, every day. Whether we understand it or not (and truly only God can grok it, and I use grok deliberately).
Some people give a sort of semi-credit to God, like He threw dice one day and planned the next. Oh! We can see where He planned! And now back to our daily craps table....
The first time I have ever heard about “magic underwear” was whe it was used to belittle Romney on this site. It has since been repeated countless times. Romney’s Mormonism has been cited to countless times.
What I find fascinating is that Mormons believe in Jesus, yet he is more like the version of Issa that mooslims believe in, so, if two versions of Christ return, one saying he is the son of God as the Christians believe, and one stating he is a prophet but not the son of God as mooslims believe, whom will the Mormons choose? Rabbi Yitzchak Kaduri said Yeshua will return after Ariel Sharon’s death, but who is the real Yeshua? I know, the one whom says he is the son of God, the time is near.
Conservatives also believe in the right to throw anyone out of their house that they don't like.
This is JRs house. You can say "yes sir", or you can say "no sir", but either way you better have your hat in your hand.
