I am not joking. Somebody help me out. How would we start a Secession Movement if this crazy nation reelects the Kenyan Marxist we have in the White House?

I think that if Texas did this, against the Feds and the Feds went after them, I would think that other states would join them. Then you could have another civil war.

In a word, no. I am an American, yes an American who owns a home in Texas, and no way am I willingly going to be a homeless refugee in a border state because Texas seceded.

In the past six months, I’ve seen more “Secede” bumper stickers here in Texas than Obama or Romney stickers.

It’s always been a somewhat tongue-in-cheek proposition, but after the past few months of Obama’s lawlessness on illegal aliens, the faggotization of the military, and the recent Obamacare ruling turning citizens into serfs of the government... in which America is obviously in total and accelerating decay, well, I’m starting to look at secession as a very, very valid option.

I guarantee you that Texas would vote 60% - 40% FOR Secession

Personally I doubt your numbers. I suspect you couldn't get 20% of Texans to actually vote for secession, as opposed to venting about it out of frustration.

However, let's take your numbers as accurate.

How do you run a government of the people, by the people and for the people when 40% of those people are adamantly opposed to your government?

They presumably would refuse to respect its legitimacy. To what lengths would your secessionist government go to enforce its authority? At what point does this turn into suppression of dissent?

IOW, how can you maintain a free system of government when a very large minority are violently opposed to it? I contend it can't be done. You can run a dictatorship or a monarchy/tyranny on such a basis, but not a civil society or republic.

YMMV

Why would Texas want to secede?

If a few of the states or even part of a single state, infected with incurable worthless communists, do not want to be loyal to the Republic and uphold the Constitution, they should be the ones to go, not us.

They can take all their commie crap right along with them.

Oh, BTW, since they are all against a powerful military, all military assets inside a secession zone will be physically reclaimed by the loyal capitalist States. Same thing with any national heritage artifact or resources.

Any capitalist citizens loyal to the Republic should be assisted in exiting the session zones.

Any attempt to confiscate or tax their possessions will be countered by force from the Republic.

Same with private sector businesses.

Then, A.M.F.

Actually Texas could separate from the union until the civil war when that promise was legislated away.

I'm a native born Texan, also. I believe you are wrong. I believe any state can secede. They are all sovereign states joined in a federation. The Union acted unlawfully when the South left the federation.

“Now, someone help me out here...”

OK, I’ll try. I’m a 7th generation Texan, descended from the original Texians brought to Texas by Stephen F. Austin and his brother.

Texas has changed a lot over the last 50 years. There will be no secession. Don’t waste your time on fantasies.

Liberals and conservatives keep looking for a free ticket out of what’s coming. There is none. There are about 10 more years of bad times coming no matter who gets elected.

I will agree things will be worse under Obama, and I certainly will be voting against him in November.

Did Virginia, New York, Massachusetts or only of the 13 British Colonies have the "right" to secede from England? They did not, but did anyway.

Mexico's President Santa Anna said that Texas had no "right" to secede from Mexico. He was right, Texas did not have that right..... Texas did it anyway.

Several USA states once seceded. They pulled out their representation from the USA Congress. They formed a new country called the Confederate States of America. They elected a President, and formed a new Congress. They had no right, countries make their own laws, and they did not approve of this "divorce". The USA invaded the CSA and after a war between the USA and CSA, the states of the CSA rejoined the USA. Because the USA did not recognize the secession, they called it a rebellion. Secession is never "legal", and it only works if you win the fight.

I do not think Texas will ever secede. Texas gave up her independence and sovereignty a long time ago. People used to be passionate about liberty. Most people today do not want to live under liberty, they want entitlements (dependence). The problems across the USA are here in Texas as well. I would be very surprised if enough Texans would support such a movement to get two or more Texas House Reps to even whisper the word to each other.

If BHO is re-elected and Texas secedes from the Union, then my motto will be:

"You, Mr. President, may go to Hell. I will go to Texas"

and what to do then about the:

98% of blacks

65% of latinos

and 26% of whites*

who all voted for Obama in 2008?

man...those Yankees who moved into Texas from late 70s on for the oil patch at first sure killed your white voting stats

Mississippi and Alabama voted almost 90% white vote against Obama...Texas woulda too but for the Rust Belt migration

I’ll move back to Texas as soon as the process begins. I’ll bring the rest of my family with me... or maybe we can get Mississippi to join with you.

I would argue that in addition to Texas, any State that existed prior to the constitution would have the historical legal groundwork for secession. Once again we would have to face a president who would provoke war amongst his own people.

My understanding is that Texas can secede "with conditions." Maybe somebody here knows all the conditions, but I know two of them:

1) Texas must defer to the U.S. regarding all questions of foreign policy, immigation and national defense; and

2) All Texas citizens must continue to pay U.S taxes.

Being a native-born Texan, it is my understanding that Texas is the only State in the Union that can legally secede from the Union, because it was once a Republic on it's own. (The Republic of Texas.)

And you are wrong. This is an old myth. Get over it. The War Between the States settled that issue with the new Texas Constitution.
