I think you're right on target. There's no rest for weary in this old world. It's always a struggle and it's always a frustrating mess. It's only by the unceasing effort of good people that it's as good as it is. This country was born in strife and struggle and it will be maintained the same way. The fact is that Roberts and SCOTUS are symptoms of structural problems going back a century or so, and if you really want to get cosmic about it, going back to creation. Then you have all of this world-historical stuff going on around us which America is not insulated from -- the epic ideological and moral struggle going on in the between socialism/statism and classical Western liberalism. If you take a step back and take all the big factors into account, I think you'd have to say we're doing pretty well.

If the Founders could see us today they would be circumspect. They would agree that in many ways we have failed to maintain their vision, but they would understand from firsthand experience just how freaking hard a project like this is, and in many ways they would agree that we in fact have maintained it. They would be quite proud of this great nation despite its faults. They wouldn't be ashamed to claim paternity. And for sure they wouldn't be on board with making excuses or shifting blame or heaven forbid just giving up. Those guys were doers.

“Hey everybody, look at me! Me me me me...! I’m John Roberts, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and I AM somebody! Look at me! Look at me, look at me, look at me!”

The guy is a freaking scumbag. He couldn’t just do the right thing and kept his stinking mouth shut.

I agree but shame on us for letting it pass in the first place.

What? We overwhelmed every single communication channel into DC while the House was debating the passage of Obamacare, and the quisling traitors passed it anyway.

About the only thing we could have done to stop it, is arrived in our millions, armed and ready to storm the Bastille.

This traitor is now joking about how, in his “intelligent” judicial activism, literally rewrote the law to accommodate this tax nonsense.

Now the DC elite/cocktail circuit is giddy and he’s enjoying his new popularity. America be darned.

Over time, provided we elect conservative presidents on a regular basis, we will eventually turn the SCOTUS back to a body that defends and upholds the Constitution. But it will take a generation or two of commitment on the part of conservatives to make it happen.

I disagree. The system put in place by the Framers is now so corrupt and compromised, that there is no longer any possibility of correcting it through our time-honored civil means and practices. We also don't have "a generation or two" to reverse the accelerated collapse that's now occurring. We had our chance to incrementally move the country back to its traditional moorings, but we blew it. Those decades are now gone.

The American colonists chose to rebel against the mightiest government on the planet, rather than endure a tenth of the tyranny we're enduring now. With yesterday's ruling, our total enslavement to a despotic, totalitarian Socialism is assured. The powers that be will not be moved by the normal processes prescribed by our late Constitution.

Nothing short of complete defiance and rebellion will turn our country around now.

I think I will look for a copy of “The Gulag” tomorrow.

I wonder how far this revolution will get before they cross a line that causes a real reaction. Obviously they won’t stop until the are stopped by others.

Thank you, Ezekial. It’s a long book...I so much like to have real books in my hand, but this is a start and maybe I could read it on my computer.

Yes, that cagy Roberts really screwed Obama. And that is why Obama’s stoolies, Kagan and Sortamywhore, voted with Roberts to screw their boss.

Yeah. Right. Sure. Too funny.

I’m wondering what all the celebration on the 4th of July will really mean as to our Founder’s Constitution. I will think about WWII in which I served and in which my brother died on Okinawa.

Adding salt to the wounds, they ruled Stolen Valor unconstitutional as well.

Anyone can claim any honor they wish. Scum everyone of them.

God bless you and your Brother

I have a question... if this thing is now a tax, can’t it be repealed? Why do we have to wait until the November election? To repeal a tax, you only need 51 votes, right? Not the 60 that were needed when it was not a tax. Why can’t we begin the repeal process now? We would need ALL Republicans in the Senate, plus 4 Democrats to vote for repeal. The way I see it, there are 14 Democrats who are in danger of losing their Senate seats. Make them vote yay or nay on a repeal. Make them own it AGAIN. Wrap these 21 new taxes, the largest tax increase in WORLD HISTORY, around their necks and hang them with it! They either vote to repeal, or they get to go into the November election as having upheld this steaming pile of crap. Can we not do this... or is it just the Crying Boner standing in the way?

Roberts needs a fortress after his ruling.

I wouldn’t bet on his survival if he decided to take a bicycle tour across fly over country.

No one on epilepsy medication should ever have been given such a high position on our supreme court. Hopefully he will leave his medication at home.

I don’t find any “joke” by John G. Roberts to be amusing. He is another liberal Republican we could have done without.

Not misinformed at all. Robert’s ruled that the Imperial Federal Government can compel and individual to do whatever it wants, so long as there is a penalty for non compliance. America is dead.

With Roberts stipulating that it WAS A TAX, these waivers are not valid

Sez who? You? They are in the law that Roberts upheld. Never heard of a tax that could be waived legally for your political cronies? Me either, up until now. Get used to it. This is the New US Government, brought to you by the ruling class of both parties.

(I'd like to think this might have been the message Roberts was trying to send.)

Not his job to send us a message. His job is to interpret the law according to the Constitution. He was f*ing derelict in his duty.

“Don’t get me started on this guy, I am so ticked off I might say something I regret.”

I’m too confused to be angry yet. I’m still trying to understand how a law that’s not passed as a tax is a tax now because our judicial courts said so.
