Nancy Reagan endorses Romney's bid for president
Boston Globe ^ | May 31, 2012 | AP

The widow of President Ronald Reagan says she is firmly behind Romney. And she says that her "Ronnie" would have liked Romney's business background and what she calls his "strong principles."

In a statement issued after the Romneys' visit, Mrs. Reagan said she believes that Romney has the experience and leadership skills that, in her words, "our country so desperately needs."

Mindless? You’re using a democrat tactic of claiming intellectual superiority. Mahr’s done that a few times.

Willardbot? No way. He’s not my choice, but preferred over Obama.

Well, you now have two more ridiculous assertions. Try for more? Mahr would!

Oh... my misunderstanding and yes... what you say about Nancy is true. She was never part of Ronald's decision making process... he talked to her but he never followed her left wing ideology. Nancy was a sweet and loving wife to Ron... but she was a nut case. Ronald loved her in spite of her flaws.

We are on the same page here. She is so unimportant that I just do not pay attention to her or anything that she says. Same goes for Ron's communist gay ballerina son... and his weirdo daughter. Ron was the best... his family... not so much except for Michael... but he was adopted. You can pick your friends but you can't pick your family.

I understand what you are saying but I also have seen absolutely no evidence that romney has been changed by GOD. He did not handle himself during the primary like a man of GOD. He cannot follow the WORDS of JESUS and follow smith... THE ONLY WAY TO THE FATHER IS THROUGH JESUS... not some clown named smith... savvy. When he renounces his belief system and follows the Teachings of the ONLY SON OF GOD... I will believe you. Until then... romney is just another left-wing con man. The republican party is replete with them. Oh... and as far as my soul and the day of reckoning... I know JESUS. I love JESUS and upon HIS return... I will stand with HIM and be HIS sword... if he will have me.

Well, Geroge W. Romney did not approve of a Reagan presidency, did he?

That is why post 64 below, we don’t want to have to speak openly and therefore negatively about Nancy Reagan, but when forced to by a hard nosed poster using the Reagan name in the corrupt service of the Reagan hating Mitt Romney, then we have to speak the truth about her.

POST 64

“To: Innovative
You are on a site with knowledgeable conservatives.

While it is polite to recognize that of course Nancy Reagan endorsed the Republican nominee (did you think she was going third party?) we conservatives know that she is no Ronald Reagan, and never was.

Nancy Reagan was never a Conservative, so show a little grace and don’t put her in front of freerepublic and pretend she is a conservative icon when it comes to endorsements, and force people who know better to respond at a level that a routine, perfunctory endorsement does not call for.

You show your own ignorance, inexperience, and rudeness by using Nancy Reagan like that. ansel12”

Interesting how the opinion of Nancy Reagan has evolved over this thread. First, she was being “used” by Romney’s people, and clearly wrong about her husbands opinion. Then she was senile, and finally was never a conservative and one step away from Gloria Steinem.

Isn’t it possible, just possible, that Mrs. Reagan is facing the same choice that many conservatives are, that one of the two nominiees WILL be the president next year, and while Romney certainly leaves a lot to be desired, is a better option than Obama? And being such, she is choosing to highlight Romney’s positives?

Is it not further possible that she, his wife of 50 years, would have known what her husband would have done?

I just dont understand the mentality that says that anyone who wont scream FUMR at the top of their lungs at all times MUST be a RINO, or Senile, or a Phoney, or manipulated. Men of good will can disagree, including conservatives.

Nothing evolved, post 351 describes the situation accurately, and you should look at post 166.

The idiocy is you trying to claim that this represents a sort of support from Ronald Reagan, who we all know would not be enthusiastic to help his Rockefeller/Romney enemies take over his party, that he fought so hard to wrest from them, especially during a period when his conservative base was making such gains through the tea party.

To see a Mitt Romney, the ultimate anti-Reagan manage to pull this off, would have broken his heart.

First, I’m not making the claim that RR would have supported Romney...his former wife is. If that is idiocy as you see it, then ok, but its what she said. If I came on here, out of the blue, and said “Ronald Reagan would have been all for Romney, would have bought a tshirt and posted a lawn sign” then you might have a point. My only point is that I think that when the wife of the guy comes out and says this is what he would have done, then A) she has some credibility, probably more than anyone else and B) it might be her honest opinion, not a manipulative plot or that she’s lost her mind.

Second, I didn’t see in the article where Mrs. Reagan said that he would have enthusiastically supported Romney. She said he would have liked his business experience and I believe his “strong principles”. The first thing there may be very true, Romney does have business experience that Reagan may have admired. THe “strong principles” part is questionable...but then again, what principles is she talking about? If his family principles, then maybe. He, from all accounts is a good husband and father. The point of all this is, she’s not sitting there saying that Ron would have been at the inksmith getting a Romney 2012 tattoo. She’s saying he would have given his support in the general election (note how she did this after the primaries were over), and would have liked some things about him. I can accept that.

If you can’t, and feel that Reagan would have somehow not supported either Romney or Obama but would have sat it out and encouraged others to do the same....well, thats your right to your opinion. But I dont think its idiotic to think that if President Reagan were alive he would have, like every other living GOP President has done, yielded some degree of support to the GOP Nominee.

Is it not further possible that she, his wife of 50 years, would have known what her husband would have done?

What Reagan himself would have done?, How he would feel about a liberal piece of scum like Mitt Romney, the most lefty candidate that has ever been a GOP candidate, more lefty than most democrats in history?

The idiocy is you trying to claim that this represents a sort of support from Ronald Reagan, who we all know would not be enthusiastic to help his Rockefeller/Romney enemies take over his party, that he fought so hard to wrest from them, especially during a period when his conservative base was making such gains through the tea party.

you just kind of repeated what you said earlier except for the first line, which I’ll address.

You will get no argument out of me that Romney is not a conservative. Most lefty candidate ever out of the GOP? Possibly, at least in modern times. I think Teddy Roosevelt could give him a run for his money.

But thats not telling the whole story, if we’re playing what would Reagan do, now is it? Conceeding that you are right, the question would be what would he do with a matchup of the most leftist GOP candidate in history VS. The most left president of all time, raised in marxism and indoctrinated with black liberation theology? Would Reagan back the GOP candidate, abstain or go third party?

You’re doing a pretty good job of saying why Reagan wouldn’t like Romney. Again, I am not saying Reagan would love the guy. But you arent telling me what you think he would do and why. Do you think he would really say “conservatives, dont vote this year at risk of another 4 years of Obama”? or “vote for Joe Schmoe who has zero chance of winning”? This discussion isn’t about Romney and anything he’s ever said and if he’s a real conservative or has been one in the past. He isn’t. I know he isn’t. EVERYONE knows he isn’t if they arent asleep or stupid. We can post clips all day long of Romney saying creepy things, and I get it. But the question for purposes of this discussion is what would Reagan do, and if you are going to try to convince me that he’d NOT back the GOP, then at least come with some logic about what he would do and why.

You are playing the same old tired game of saying Romney or Obama, except using Reagan now.

Reagan would have fought Romney. So I win the hypothetical.

Retired President Reagan lives to influence politics and is even available right now for endorsements according to you, although it is funny that he wasn’t available during the primary, like in Florida for instance.

Because of Reagan, Romney not only comes in third in 2008, but possibly even fourth because of hints and mocking from Reagan, Reagan then makes sure that his influence is felt after Romney’s 2008 defeat to make sure that the Rockefeller/Rove wing of the GOP does not push Romney back into the mix for 2012 and with out doubt keeps him from being the nominee.

LOL, win the hypothetical. All serious debate aside, I really laughed out loud at that, so thanks for the chuckle. Ok you win the prize. Whatever it is. Print “ I WIN” on a paper and hang it on the wall....or fulfil my mental image of you dancing around the room stanley cup style.

Romney or Obama isn’t a game. Its the choice for President right now. Now. No matter how much you want to put your fingers in your ears and go LA LA LA LA LA...one of these schmucks is going to be the President come Jan 2013. I wish it wasn’t like that, I would have preferred 5 other people that ran before Romney...but it is what it is. No third choice (barring tragedy I would wish on either man) ends any other way but with “President Romney” or “President Obama”. That isn’t hypothetics, thats fact.

Now is when Mrs. Reagan made her comment. I, nor anyone else is saying Zombie Reagan rises from dead and endorses Romney. Mrs. Reagan gave her opinion of what Ronald Reagan would have done with Romney V. Obama. She stayed out during the primary because, I suspect, it would have been much harder to say who RR would have picked between Newt, Perry, Bachmann, Cain, etc. were conservatives and had good and bad points. But they didn’t win. I wish one of them would have. But they did not. Romney did. And I agree with Mrs Reagan, that if faced with the choice of Romney V. Obama in Nov 2012, not 2008.

So my question to you remains, if Ronald Reagan were alive NOW, and were faced with Romney V. Obama, and you dont think he’d go for Romney....what would he do?
