Everyone please send whatever you are able to, whether it is $10, $100 or $1,000+. The DUmmies, Morons, Kos Kiddies and that crew are laughing up their sleeves. Jim may have to make this site members only or allow ads. Better for us to just help with what we can. Maybe you can donate as a memorial for a lost loved one, a servicemember who never made it home or was disabled defending our country. Perhaps you'd like to give to keep free discussion alive and to show them that we're not knuckling under. I'm sure a well thought out or prayerful meditation will lead you to see the need and how you can help. If every registered FReeper and our lurkers would each just help out with a fin or a sawbuck, or better yet a Ben Franklin, we could put this to bed and get on with the conservative cause.

The circumstances of Romney’s decisions is that he is a lifelong dedicated lefty, that reversed his public positions when it was time to go for president.
It is taboo to take the circumstances of a politician’s decisions into account here nowadays, but you can’t understand those decisions without the context.
For me, knowing the truth is the basis of conservatism.

You (and others on this thread) obviously believe that it is OK to compromise on true values and that it is not only acceptable to do so, but actually preferable when it comes to politics.
I contribute to Free Republic BECAUSE I believe in being associated with those who support pro-life, pro-marriage (between one man and one woman), and those who support the 2nd Amendment and a restricted and limited government at all levels, among other issues. I WILL NOT compromise on matters of faith and morals.
Just what do you believe in? Do you think that it is important to drop everything, including support of Free Republic, because we must now concede -- in April of an election year -- to a liar like Mitt Romney all because he appears to be the ONLY alternative to the worst POTUS in memory? And you feel you can now attack the owner of this site with impunity, all because you happen to favor appeasement and concession, rather than fighting for issues that are absolutely the foundation of our life and freedoms? As I understand it, he has been a business man for the majority of his life, with one term as governor for a political life. How can you make such a broad statement based on one term?

My theory has long been that perhaps deep pockets buy special privileges. If that isn't the case, we can only hope that when bludgeoned over the head by the same complaint over and over again a sense of self preservation will set in. I have always avoided that clique like the plague.

I’ve never observed that cults have a great deal of constructive influence on the body politic, on the Nation, on the planet.
Cults increasingly become in-grown, myopic, full of back-biting, prissy rigid narrowness, brittle, fractured, irrational and full of intense hostility toward ALL OUT-GROUP individuals regardless of how similar etc.
FR will either become LESS cult-like or MORE cult-like after this.
What you fail to understand is that conservatism is *NOT* defined by *YOU*.
Therefore, if you read something you don’t like, it doesn’t suddenly cease to be conservative.
And thus, trying to zot the member who posted it doesn’t mean the poster wasn’t conservative.
That is my compensation plus Amy’s and Chris’ who works here part time helping me and learning the ropes (ie, Management and Administration) plus a part of our related payroll tax expenses.
I’m sure there are probably others who might be able to run a site as large as FR for fewer bucks (maybe), but they’ll probably need to be independently wealthy if they don’t take compensation and thus they’re probably not really interested in running a donor based grassroots organization. Nor will they put in the hours I do.

No, it IS TRUE, that I’ve greatly reduced my reading and posting on FR.
I’ve been forceably restricted to posting almost only about things that are not of great spiritual or END TIMES importance to me so I don’t spend as much time here as I used to. So it’s plausible that I’ve missed such posts.
However, I think the spirit and gist of my post still stands.
THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF FREEPERS ON FR ARE AUTHENTIC CONSERVATIVES WHO MORE OR LESS WHOLEHEARTEDLY SUPPORT OUR CORE VALUES.

I have not read the entire thread. I cannot. TOO painful. I found this post which expresses my felling very well and will tag a few thoughts on.
I LOVED this place for a very long time and once said that I had never met a Freeper I didn't like. You, your wife, and son are among those folks Jim and nothing has changed in that regard as far as you are concerned but, sad as it is, those days are gone and it saddens me more than you can imagine. I very much preferred the FR of 1998 (flame wars and all) to the FR of today. Back then this was a crucible where ideas of every stripe were melted down and refined. Today it is nothing more than a boring echo chamber and I have rarely posted on the main forum for quite some time now.
This place belongs to you Jim and you have every right to do with it as you wish. I have never said anything other than that from day one but I must confess to you that I no longer find FR WORTH contributing to sad as that is. And one more thing before I go. I don't like Mitt Romney any better than you do but I WILL vote for him in November! The alternative is just too horrible to contemplate.
If you are in a bannin mood it would appear that you have lot of work to do.

HEALTHY ORGANIZATIONS HANDLE SUCH FEEDBACK GRACIOUSLY AND CONSTRUCTIVELY. They take whatever %% of truth out of them and grow from the input.
Unhealthy organizations shoot the messenger.
That’s just a fact that any Organizational Development PhD would tell you is true of all types of organizations.
I’m not here to defend Romney but i do live in MA and I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that Romney had NOTHING to do with gay marriage in MA. It was implemented by the courts over his objections. PERIOD.

Romney was rabidly pro-gay, and antigun.
Romney is a dedicated lifelong, anti-conservative, he and his anti-war, presidential candidate father stormed off the convention floor at the 1964 Republican convention IN PROTEST AGAINST GOLDWATER’S NOMINATION. For years Romney was one of America’s most vocal, passionately pro-abortion politicians, explaining that his entire family had become dedicatedly pro-abortion in 1963.
Changing or massaging an issue or two is totally different than at age 59 in preparation to run in a different election, suddenly reversing ALL of your lifelong political positions, try to imagine any politician pulling off that trick or being in a position to need to do it to run to LEAD his chosen party.

The Reagan after 1948 was campaigning for Republicans like Eisenhower, who he campaigned for in 1952 and again in 1956, and then campaigned for Nixon against JFK in 1960, already having earned a reputation as an active speaker for conservatism for years?
The Reagan who formally registered Republican in 1962 and spoke at the Goldwater convention in 1964? The one that Mitt and his father stormed out of in formal protest against conservatism?
Reagan was famous for his conservatism before the Vietnam War, and the Great Society, Roe V Wade, the abortion wars, Jimmy Carter, decades of Cold War defeats, and the radical 1960s, before the Reagan Revolution and the Contract with America, and Clinton, and the Gore election of 2000, Mitt Romney would not even register Republican during the Reagan Presidency or vote for him. Romney, at almost age 60, had a stroke (or something) and suddenly, unexplainedly, became a totally different person around 2006, merely to run for national office.
Reagan and Romney have nothing in common.

Actually contribution are pretty much on for 45 days. FR usually will raise $65,000 to 70 thousand in about 30 days with no sweat, and the last $25 thousand to 90+ grand will take 15 days. The last one took a little longer but was still successful at raising the operating funds.
And, if anyone needs to be zotted, it’s the ‘I’m god-like’-mods who have let power go to their inflated heads and zot fingers.
SOMETIMES it SEEMS like their greatest claim to glory and their greatest pride is convincing themselves that they’ve successfully played Jim like a piano against the FREEPERS they personally despise for mysterious reasons.
