GOP Timidity Is a Path to Defeat
American Thinker ^ | January 11, 2012 | Joseph M. Koenig

The blinding speed with which the country has veered left under Obama has left Republicans desperate to find a way to take back the steering wheel. With that in mind, it is impossible to turn on the television and see any political analysis of the GOP presidential nomination process that doesn't inevitably turn to the question of which of the candidates can beat Obama in the general election. As many of the polls reflect, most such discussions come to the conclusion that Mitt Romney is the safest choice. However, this argument from electability is based in fear and defeatism, and it produces candidates who fail to energize the voting public enough to win elections, much less edge the direction of the country back to a rightward trajectory. The nomination of John McCain in 2008 is only the latest example...

--snip--

...the Republicans are poised to select another Bob Dole or John McCain. As Republicans are embarrassed and afraid to offer a solidly conservative candidate, they only give credence to the mantra of the left that the GOP is filled with right-wing extremists. They're acting as though they believe it themselves.

The left-leaning bias in the press cannot be changed in the short or intermediate term, nor can it be avoided by running candidates the media may find less objectionable. The Democrat candidate will always be the hero to the GOP's villain. Sooner or later, the GOP is going to have to muster the courage to trust the American people to see through the biased coverage, and to support a candidate who reflects the conservative values that are still generally mainstream, even if not in the dominant media. The strategy of appeasing the left with a watered-down candidate is destined for defeat in the both long and short term.

It's like Reagan never happened! The GOP ruling class is the reason for the GOP being called the stupid party!

Safe + Moderate not equal to Electable - Low-beta isn’t always better.

Above all else, RINOs must be punished ! We are in a war for the survival of our country and Mitt Romney is the Benedict Arnold of 2012 ! This must be dealt with BEFORE we can win against our enemies the democrats.

I intend to write in George Washington for president and vote conservative on all other ballot measures.

"If we must have an enemy at the head of Government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible, who will not involve our party in the disgrace of his foolish and bad measures." - Alexander Hamilton

I still remember watching this moment:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OO2_49TycdE

That was the moment that the RINO GOP insiders were put into the back seat - for only four years, but long enough to get something useful done, nonetheless.

It’s the little Republican primary voters who continually keep the ruling class entrenched.

While I agree that Romney isn't the ideal candidate, he is far better than Dole or McCain or some of the other squishes that have been offered up over the years. He has a better chance of winning than Dole, McCain, or even Bush I did (vs. Clinton). My personal choice was Cain, but he is now out for good, so, if Romney gets the nomination, then that is who I'll vote for. I will not allow Barack Obama to have another 4 years to destroy this country - period.

GOP Rep: We’ll vote to disapprove of ‘recess’ appointments — once we’re back from recess
By Felicia Sonmez

Freshman Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.), the author of a new House resolution disapproving of President Obama’s move to recess appoint former Ohio attorney general Richard Cordray to head the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, is out with a head-scratcher of a news release this morning.

FR used to be a site about political activism. More Freepers need to step away from their keyboards, put down their screens, and start working to elect conservatives to state and local offices. Hook up with your local Tea Party. Doesn’t matter who wins the presidential race, we are going to need conservatives in Congress to lead the way. And while you’re at it, stop in en masse at local government meetings. You can actually stop them from spending your money. I know—I saw it. We are all acting like passive victims of abuse. As Obama said, time to take off the bedroom slippers......

Yeah, the Republicans need to start throwing bombs.

Republicans had the Tea Party, Democrats had the KKK.

Barack Obama, murdered 200 Mexicans and counting.

Solyndra, Obama’s plan for the American Economy.

I long for the time SNL gets edgy enough that they show a Tea Partier in eternal detention because Joe Biden called him a terrorist.

Nothing pisses off democrats more than being ridiculed.

Fast and Furious in itself should have been a big enough bomb... it’s enough to rattle even those that aren’t in the news (or are into one-sided news), but it’s almost like they’re “afraid to rock the boat.”

If you vote for a liberal with an (R) next to their name, you're still voting for a liberal, and they will take us down the road to socialism just as surely as a liberal with a (D) next to their name.

It's time to stop throwing our votes away on liberals with (R) next to their name. Every time we do that, we are telling the GOP that it's okay for them to move even farther to the left.

[Article] The left-leaning bias in the press cannot be changed in the short or intermediate term ...

Sure it can. What did we tell Col. Suharto in 1965? He got rid of his PKI problem, and they were on the verge of taking the country down.

And for the record, our press doesn't have a "left-leaning bias" -- they are hard-line ideologues and bigots who dream of sending us to the crematoria. The remaining daylight between them and the murderous Bill Ayers has been reduced to Zero.

Well, weren't about fifty new conservatives elected to the House in 2010, but there presence seems to have been of no notice?

Not enough. We need to elect more. The Dems and Rinos are trying to triangulate them out of existence because they are a threat to business as usual.
