TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran raised the prospect on Tuesday of sending military ships close to the United States' Atlantic coast, in what would be a major escalation of tensions between the long-standing adversaries.
"Like the arrogant powers that are present near our marine borders, we will also have a powerful presence close to American marine borders," the head of the Navy, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said, according to the official IRNA news agency.

The first article I ever read that mentioned both EMP and Iran said that a single EMP pop over Tehran would instantly decapitate the mullahs’ command and control and turn the entire nation into the world’s largest kicked-over fire ant mound. The resulting electronic turmoil and confusion would degrade the Rev Guards’ ability to police the country, and liberation just might break out (yes, I know like the “Arab Spring”, be careful what you wish for).
Anyway, Iamadamnnutjob keeps shooting his mouth off and Israel is still there, so why should anyone believe that the Iranian Navy will soon be crossing the pond?

Why? The military under Bush was brilliant. We have Iran surrounded. We can not protect the US or anybody else any better than that from Iran....at any second we are ready to pounce...unlike the months it took to build up toward Iraq or Afghanistan. Think people not just react.

I've read about EMPs. I've read about Jericho. Never done Netflix (though my 88-year-old mother does!). I'm not much into watching things, but thanks for the advice.

I like the fact that Texas or the “Republic of Texas” is portrayed as “The Goos Guys” in that series.
Of course it kinda makes sense, but in the scenario the nukes were detonated onthe ground in cities so the EMP wouldn’t be nearly as bad as a space based EMP attack via short range ballistic missle over the US.
I would imagine if Iran stuck they would detonate multiple EMP payloads at once from multiple rockets top prevent us from attempting to shoot down the missles, if only one makes it through we are SOL.

I’ve read it and while it is fiction, I don’t doubt that’s exactly what will happen. ]
I think about 50% of our electrical devices will be crapped out after a mid nation space based EMP. 20% will work for a while but be damaged enough to where they will fizzle out ahead of time. The rest will continue to work and will be items with more robust circitry, thinks like refrigerators will still work as they have a steel “shell” around them that is grounded and most of them have simple circitry. Microwaves may survive if they are heavy duty shielded types, cheap one will more than likely break.
The main issue will be the electrical grid. It will take a while to bring it back online and a lot of people in hospitals may die in the meantime. People who work IT jobs will be in a nightmare as they wait for new parts to get in from China.
It will be very very very bad, but not “Post apocalyptic”. Most of us will get knocked down to the 60’s after the power is restored 2-3 weeks after the initial attack. It may be the only thing that actually “Wakes up the Sleeping Giant”.
All he would do is respond with the usual, dreaded, strongly worded letter, in response.
Maybe he might even use the dreaded red Pen. That will show them we mean business. Time for a beer summit.

I never said any such things. I am trying to make the point that we are a country that is weakening so rapidly right now. Being humble about our military power and taking the sucidal nut jobs in Iran seriously is a very prudent idea, eh ?

I am not saying it is going to happen. I am saying that we need to take the threat seriously and elect strong leaders.

If recent history is any indication, we will respond with a couple of small frigates, full of gay sailors, who will use loud speakers to try and persuade the Iranian ships to keep outside the 12 mile limit. If the Iranians refuse then the gay navy will use water cannons and their ships to nudge the Iranian vessels.
Should the matter escalate and an Iraniian ship get sunk, probably afte a Navy ship is damaged or destroyed, then Cindy Sheehan,Code Pink, BIll Ayers, et al will start publicly protesting the Navy’s actions and brand them as brutal killers.

We’ve played this game with guys a whole lot tougher than the Iranians. Welcome them with open arms. Give them a port visit. Offer asylum to defectors. Actually, in the TV series, nuclear bombs in white trucks detonated simultaneously in 23 U.S. cities at 8:05 PM Eastern time. Mysterious higher ups in the U.S. government were the masterminds of the plot. Ironically, Iran and North Korea got the blame.
The truck in New York City was discovered in Manhattan and the bomb defused before it had a chance to detonate. Another truck headed for Columbus, Ohio, was diverted to the fictional town of Jericho, Kansas, by Robert Hawkins, an undercover FBI agent in “Jericho.”
After the initial attacks, some power was restored in Jericho, but then one night the town’s residents saw a rocket in the night sky, and that was the EMP attack that fried the fragile power grid and whatever technology remained in the small town. It was never explained who caused the EMP.
“Jericho” was one of the few TV series that had me sitting on the edge of my chair. There’s rumors of a “Jericho” movie picking up where the series left off.
