Iraq's largest oil refinery shut by bombing

Iraq's largest oil refinery was shut down on Saturday after militants carried out a bomb attack and set it on fire, the governor of Salahuddin province said.

The militants killed four people and planted bombs at production units for kerosene and benzene at the refinery in the town of Baiji, a former al Qaeda stronghold about 180 km (112 miles) north of Baghdad, Governor Ahmed al-Jubouri said.

"There is a big fire in the refinery and the refinery has completely stopped," Jubouri told Reuters.

Overall violence in Iraq has dropped sharply since the peak of sectarian conflict in 2006-07, but attacks still occur on a daily basis.

The Baiji refinery was controlled for a long time by al Qaeda militants, who used it to finance the insurgency.

mho ... my belief: Iran is one of the little guys. Maybe the rank of corporal in the overall picture. Yet Iran is one troublesome corporal... mho

Do you recognize the German (actually Austrian at the time, didn't get German citizenship until 1932) corporal on the right? Hitler's highest military rank was as a corporal, and he turned out to be a big pain in the tail. Iran has the potential to do the same. It's a question of gathering followers, not of the "corporal" in isolation, and Iran might gather quite a dangerous crowd.

“It is also associated with the assassination of Cesar”

Yes. “beware the Ides of March” means “beware the 15th of March”, when Caesar was assassinated, as the “prophet” told him in Shakespeare’s rendition. That’s all it means. It has no relevance outside of the number 15. But people use it as though it’s some spooky thing, because they come to an assumption in their own mind that it means something else. It can be a great revelation when you realize how much you are assuming. For me, it led me to read the Bible when I realized how many baseless assuptions I had about it.

The only thing to do with Benzene is to let it burn.

That reminds me, when is Obama gonna release Osama? because I distinctly remember the left saying all during Bush's final term that Bush had already captured Osama, along with the theory that it was actually Bush that bombed the world trade centers!

Here's another one to digest. (We know where this is all headed according to Scripture.)

First Iran with its ships and now we see the announcement that their good comrade Russia is getting in on the action.
