Per BBC reporter: The army has called for the protestors to go home for the good of the country.

Uh-oh.

Per BBC reporter- still seeing fights breaking out; Mubarak paying between 5-10 lbs per person to stir things up in the square ..army not intervening.

“..army not intervening “

Yet....

This ‘dog that didn’t bark’ is the most ominous detail, IMO...

I think they’ve been given their orders from the top.

Anderson Cooper reporting he and his team have been roughed up, he was hit on the head. stuff was thrown at them...and he said the army did nothing and that was “shocking” (Anderson doesn’t know about military discipline) ...

Hard to see how this will end well. Mubarak has decided he’s not going anywhere and that is re-energizing the protestors...it’s now a big MESS.

Coopers in the middle of a crisis what did he expect tea and biscuits.

He’s lucky he aint got stabbed yet, tehy seems to be no discretion on who’s getting their heads cracked and the mubarak lot will take the reporters out first.

” I think they’ve been given their orders from the top. “

Yeah - but which ‘top’??

The Generals, beyond some lukewarm ‘support’ for Mubarak in the early days, have been strangely silent, of late...

Is Hosni still in control of the Army, and holding them back for a later stage in the revolt??

Or is the Army Leadership staying on the sidelines, ready to step in and assume control when the chaos becomes complete??

Or am I over-thinking this??

I think you’re right. When this is over- one way or another- the army is the only institution that can keep order. They need to try and maintain apparent neutrality...

I’ve been truly impressed by the army- their discipline is professional and very tough to keep under these circumstances.

Per BBC- loudspeaker requesting people to go home.

This woman on AJ is speaking and said they’ve been there all week and no one got hurt (blaming the pro-Mubarak protesters).

Oh, really, - what about the 2,000 hurt, 30 killed, 60 raped, buildings burned, museum ransacked...

Watching BBC- here’s something you don’t see every day. In the middle of the square with a lot of people running- there’s goes a camel...

A correspondent, ON FNC IIRC, said this morning that some protestors came in on camelback. Cue the theme from Lawrence of Arabia.

I see the Beeb’s coverage is isolated on that one particular spot. Is the reporting that the violence is widespread, in pockets, anyone heard?
