Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) remained in critical condition Sunday, a day after she was seriously wounded in a shooting rampage that killed at least six people and injured at least a dozen others in Tucson. Police and investigators were trying to piece together the alleged shooter's motive as they searched for a possible accomplice.

The Sheriff is acting very suspiciously. He should clearly disclose what he and his department knew about Loughner prior to yesterday’s attack.

Bring back Chief Moose!

Heh! I said the same thing to my wife last evening during the press conference. Dupnik even knocked over a mic then said "Oh, well, now there's two" or words to that effect. The guy is a doofus as well as a political hack. And now we can suspect he may have some association with the perp or his mother.

Yes, the FBI will start to spin, but I wasn't impressed with the local FBI spokesman, either.

If Sheriff Dupnik knew that Loughner was violent, making death treats and mentally disturbed prior to yesterday’s attack, why didn’t he take steps to protect the community?

Laughner was the name used by the lefty who made the Tea Party linked Facebook page after the shooting.

Example one of the moral integrity, the intellectual responsibility, and the human compassion of the American left, circa 2011.

On Fox & Friends this morning, it was reported the perp’s mother works for or with the Pima County Board of Supervisors. That the perp had had charges brought against him before, and that those charges were reduced. I posted on another thread earlier, that it’s possible the sheriff could have been involved in the sentencing, or may be aware of how that came about.

That's not how it works. The police do the legwork, make the bust and do the investigation. The DA is the one who issues the warrants, does the plea bargaining, and sets the charges. I'm not saying the Sheriff couldn't have "queered" the investigation (using the old def of "queered", as in mucked it up, obfuscated the "facts"), but I know in our county if the above had happened, the case would have been moved to another county, to avoid the appearance of favoritism. This Sheriff is starting to smell...

Forgot to include: The Sheriff has nothing to do with the sentencing. That’s between the DA, the state laws, and the judge (who is unfortunately often the wild card).

As Darkwing104 points out, the FBI will take control, indeed has taken custody of the perp, and is now controlling the investigation. Fox News has them having another news conference in about an hour, supposedly with the sheriff, but we'll see just how much he contributes.

If any investigation occurs, it would have to come from outside the department, and outside the Board of Supervisors. And from what I've heard about the mayor, he's not much better than Dupnik. I hope it happens, but have real doubt at this time...

To be fair a Sheriff is probably aware of dozens of potentially dangerous people at any one time and has limited powers to deal with people before they’ve done anything illegal.

Let's be as fair to the sheriff as he was to all of Arizona when he labelled us bigots and racists Sheriff blames Arizona's bigotry

The fool needs to resign. NOW...

The Communist Manifesto huh? Seems this dumb ass sheriff should be pointing the finger at the left and not the right.

That's what I was getting at. She works/worked for the county board of supervisors. He's the county sheriff. What relationship do they/did they have? What input could he have had in the sentencing process? The whole point is, he could very well be too close to perp's past to be involved now in this case. It should be looked in to. Whether it will or not is anyone's guess. I'm sensing (the FBI has now taken custody of the perp) the system is starting to close around the sheriff.

Also, this sheriff has been a very vocal opponent of the Arizona immigration law, stating publicly he wouldn't enforce it. The mayor of Tucson has also spoken publicly against the law. He's also a Democrat. Regardless of how your county functions, I see at least a semblance of political machine in Pima County, and wouldn't be surprised if the sheriff is protected politically.

The Sheriff should be pointing the finger at himself. He knew this guy was a violent threat to the community and did nothing.

There wasn’t news coverage, she does these meet and greets all the time, pretty much every weekend. As for constituents maybe the people talking to her might have been recording, but of course those are the ones most likely to get shot. Keep in mind this wasn’t some sort of “town hall” or “town meeting”, it was Gabby hanging out in a public place with a table in front of her and a sign behind her just chatting with anybody that came on. It’s pretty much the only thing she does that I agree with, she’s very much into being available to the people she represents to just chat, no speech, no agenda, just chat.

A REAL sheriff wears a uniform. This guy is a politician. His lakeys do all the work.

I do believe this “sheriff” knows, and knew, more than he’s letting on. That’s why he immediately tried to point the blame away from himself. He’s been sheriff for 30 years. He knows how things work. And jumping out in front with a bunch of crap that can be proven to be crap is not a smart thing to do. He pannicked!

Typical yuppie reporter:

House needs renovating”””

Why? Just because it doesn’t have all of ‘todays fancy gadgets’??

OTOH- Seems they could have spent some time & money keeping the yard mowed over the time spent on classic cars. (I love those kinds of cars- so that is not my point).

Seems this dumb ass sheriff should be pointing the finger at the left and not the right.

In the first couple of very confusing hours after the shooting, the left was absolutely convinced that the gunman was some sort of "teabagger." I even heard an woman state senator from AZ, a Sen. Lopez, claim live on Fox in an interview with Shepard Smith, that the gunman was an Afghan war vet. The depths leftists will travel to smear their "enemies" is certainly revealing. I wish I could say it is also shocking, but nothing the left does, be it craven or corrupt, surprises me anymore.

There are documents online that say Amy Loughner is a Park Manager at Agua Caliente Park in Tucson or the surrounding area. The area where the perp lives is in Marana, which parallels I 10 for about 10 miles or so north of Tucson and down to county areas in the NW metro area.

Mein Kampf also.

This guy tried to enter the military & was rejucted.

Since they are accepting recruits with criminal records, this guy must have been showing some mental instability long time ago.

Was he also told NOT to come back to school? He was too disruptive.???
