Sen. Jim DeMint argued for a “devolution of power out of Washington,” saying Sunday that “the fact is, education probably would work a lot better without the Department of Education.”
The South Carolina Republican had been asked on CNN’s “State of the Union” whether candidates whom he and the tea party movement have endorsed are too far out of the political mainstream. When host Candy Crowley gave Sharron Angle’s call to abolish the Education Department as an example, DeMint said, “She’s very bold to say it.” Angle is the GOP candidate challenging Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) for his Senate seat in Nevada.
“I would support a devolution of power out of Washington for education, health care, transportation, and I’ve introduced a lot of legislation for that, too,” DeMint added, saying the power should go to the states. “And you can do it in a common-sense, reasonable way that doesn’t disrupt any of the activities that we support.”
You’ve been here a month, you’ve been present while the Tea Party has crushed RINO opposition in primaries - and yet you say you want the Tea party to become a third party?

Good answer but he missed a golden opportunity to torque the hosts jaws by saying that the whole DemCrap party and most of the press are really the ones out of the mainstream. I guess that’s why he is a politician and most of us on here are not.

I disagree. The decline started a long time before that. Look up Horace Mann, John Dewey, Carl Rogers, Margaret Sanger, and Alfred Kinsey. They are the principal contributors to what Government School eductation has become today.
The Department of Education is more a symptom than a cause.
The Department of Education budget as of 2006 was almost $70 billion, with a work force of more than 18,000 people. What all those people do with all that money is anybody’s guess.
It was established in 1977 by James Earl Carter (Communist) as a payback to the teachers’ unions.
It is long overdue for closing.

Yep, that would take care of the useless BLM and eliminating the dept of Aggriculture would take care of the equally worthless USFS.
As an anecdote, 25-years ago when I moved to the small town in Idaho where I live, the USFS had about 25 seasonal and permanent employees covering the local district ranger office and the supervisors office. We had 5-lumber mills operating, a couple of mines, and lots of cattle on grazing permits. Today, there are over 100-idiots working just at the FS, not counting the BLM, and there are no sawmills in the area, cattle numbers are about half, and there are no mines in operation. Absolutely crazy!!

It's gratifying to see some politicians finally take up the issue of States' Rights that I have been advocating for over a decade. The 9th and 10 Amendments were never repealed, although through various Supreme Court rulings, they have been distorted and watered down, much like the "commerce clause" and the "welfare clause".
However, as I was telling a friend last night, the USSC has NO enforcement ability. THE NINE can rule in favor or against the intent of the Constitution, but it is just an interpretation of Congressional statues and/or Executive dictates. Don't get me wrong, I am a man of laws, but when those laws are found to be in contradiction of the "original intent" of our Constitution (which countless historical documents show), then those laws are invalid.
Anyway, it is up to the Executive Branch to enforce such determinations by the USSC. Politicians being self-serving creatures have been very reluctant to enforce many USSC decisions since after Lincoln's debacle with the southern states.
A recent example is the USSC's correct ruling on individuals' right to bear arms for self-defense. Many municipalities have ignored that ruling. Where are the Feds to enforce that ruling? Where has the Executive Branch been on "sanctuary cities" which are clearly against Fed law? But yet they sue Arizona for enforcing such federal immigration law? There are countless other examples throughout our history. That is why:
Some 20 States are now suing against Obamacare. If that and other lawsuits don't prevail, STATE NULLIFICATION is the only answer. It is not seditious for the Individual States to just say no and reassert their rights! What is the Fedgov going to do other than withhold funds back to those States? The States could then withhold tax receipts to the Fedgov and keep their own damn money in their own State.
Would ANY sane president send in the military in this day and age for such a showdown? Of course not, this is not the 1800's. No one has the stomach for a "civil war" in this era. The Feds would eventually have to back down and accept the States' nullification with their tails tucked between their legs, much like local courts have to accept jury nullification.
Again, STATE NULLIFICATION IS THE FINAL ANSWER TO THE FEDGOV POWER GRAP. Glad to see a major politician is now implying such.

It was when the Gingrich took the House back in 1994, and clinton, I say again, clinton shut down Congress, but was able make it look like Gingrich and the Pubbies were the problem. Again, the MSM in the liberal's corner.

Well, I've been talking STATE NULLIFICATION for sometime on this board (posted many threads with little interest). Few seem to get that the way back is through States' Rights...even as they see some 20 States sueing Obamacare.
No, they want their favorite politician that promises the world. They are blind to the only and final answer back to our Constitutional heritage.
Demint seems to have the idea. We need more like him.
Please do not omit the role of unionization in destroying a once-great education system. Until the unions are no longer in control, education cannot improve.
