I understand your point and you make a good case from the point of view of a sociological thesis, but as an individual, living in this society, I feel comfortable just dropping the word completely from my vocabulary.
That doesn’t stop me from observing and commenting on the incredible stupidity of the PC elites with regard to this word (not to mention a million other things) and how they are totally fine with Hispanics using it (not people of the same race as the target race, using the supposedly “unusable” target word against the target race, but totally ok because Hispanics can do anything and not be criticized) but go apoplectic if a person of Irish descent (for example) uses it.
So on the one hand, I’ll never use it. On the other hand, I look down on the PC crowd for being so sensitive about it.
And by the way, while we’re on the subject, someone here in FR posted the Arab slang word for “black person”. I forget what it is but supposedly it translates literally to the word “slave”. So you have how many millions of Arabs around the world routinely referring to black people as slaves and you hear what from the PC elites about that?
Because again, Arabs, like Hispanics, can do no wrong. (I just thought of one exception to the “Hispanics can do no wrong rule”, an exception that even applies to the coveted Black Race: voting Republican. No matter who you are, if you vote Republican, you are automatically a racist. Those are PC rules, folks. That’s just the way they are.)

I did not comment on what gender or race or group of any kind she’s in.
I called her a moron as an individual for an individual action she took.
You call that bigoted.
That, my friend, makes you so woefully ignorant of the meaning of the word “bigot” that it puts you in the moron class yourself. I’m sorry, that’s just the way it is.
If you think criticizing someone’s individual behavior makes you a “bigot” then you don’t know what the word means and you are so far removed from logical analysis that you are a moron.
You can disagree with me for criticizing Laura. You can say the word “moron” is too harsh to describe what she did. You can even say she did nothing wrong at all and make a case for that.
You can even call ME a moron for calling HER a moron.
But if I say what she did was moronic and then you say my criticism of her shows bigotry then you sir are a moron.
There’s no way around that.
Buy yourself a dictionary. Look up the word. Try to educate yourself out of your current moronic predicament. I have a feeling in your case your moron status is curable.
Maybe she’s just tired. She’s been doing this a long time.

You're showing her more kindness than she deserves. From the handful of times that I listened to her my impression was not even near that charitable. If you were to force it out of me, I'd have to say something about a shrill, mean-hearted MIL from hell full of her own spiritual and uh... "personal" conflicts to describe her.

Actually she has a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Impressive even if you don’t like her.

Somewhere on my resume I have a BA in sociology (and a BA in PolySci and yeah, that silly law degree, too) so that may explain my assessment from a sociological viewpoint.
She did something that put her at risk of harm, which shows a lack of judgment, similar to walking through Harlem at 3am while obliviously counting a large wad of cash in her hands.
This does not mean I personally object to her using whatever word or phrase she wants to.
Which was her point. I don't know why she apologized. I guess she forgot to "stay strong."
What I have often wondered is this: about what percentage of her listeners think that she is a medical doctor? I know from reading about it is that she has a Phd. in physiology.
We all have opinions and idiosyncrasies, but the world has been turned upside down. The very idea that voicing an opinion is a demonstration of judgment doesn't play, IMHO. Voicing an opinion is a right and a privilege, granted to us by God, according to my constitution. The right to hang out with people that you like has been turned against us, through their use of political correctness. Color was never mentioned in the Constitution. When slavery was finally dispelled in our country, opportunists found another way to chip away at our rights.
I am not a segregationist. I am a bigot. I don't like some people, but color has nothing to do with it. I do see some groups of color with whom I would never comport, but according to the whims of our modern society, we cannot exclude anybody. But, they go beyond that and demand that everyone be included.
Through political correctness, we have a dumb citizenry, and a tyrannical government. We have Obama, a community organizer, organizing the destruction of America. We have a Congress who pass laws against saying Nigger, and make it a crime sufficient to send you to the gulags. In the meantime, Barney Frank, et al., stand up there with a queer brethren and laugh, laugh, laugh, while they finish raping our economy.
I only listened to Laura's program once or twice, and not its entirety. I didn't care for her style or content. She raised the question about who can use words. The rest is history. I used it... And I'm not ashamed! It was meant for discussion, not for denigration. That was her intention as far as it's been seen, and it's a damn shame that we have people on here who claim that freedom of speech is moronic.
As previously stated, I have a low opinion of the education that has been doled out through political correctness. I also have a low opinion for drones and sycophants...
