I didn’t insult you, as with all my other posts to you, I objectively analyzed the situation and commented on it.
You clearly weren’t looking for the objective truth of what a pioneer is, as it took only about 15 seconds for me to find one of the most common online dictionaries and the definition I posted.
I also think you aren’t looking for the objective truth about Abby and her family.
No dude. You gave an opinion that was intended to insult. There was no objectivity.

I guess I should have added the “sarc” to my comment. I learned about Magellan in grade school...a very long time ago, but thanks for the history lesson.

I caught the sarcasm. I just remembered the irony of Magellan's several attempts to round The Horn and being driven back by the uncooperative wind and seas. His men were supposedly planning mutiny if he tried again.
If I remember correctly, Magellan was also trying to circumnavigate the globe, and didn’t live to see the end of the voyage.
Hate to break it to you but this country is far from free.
And it cost a lot of money for that. Not her money either. And a ship's Captain could have drowned. And people are cheering her?
Every effort to help and save her has come voluntarily. No entity did so by force. The french fishing boat could well have ignored the distress signal, as could have Austrailia.

All of my boy cousins learned to fly and soloed in high school. Most of them have planes and still fly today. I don’t think my relatives were bad parents. But if you are saying you flew around the world, unaccompanied, at age 14, I am in awe. What a guy.
Now that you bring up the point, how many missionary parents have taken their children off to literally God-forsaken parts of the planet, where their children have been put at risk for, and in many cases died from, cannibals, heathens who resented busy-body missionaries, yellow fever, typhoid, malaria, diseases no one ever heard of before, snake bites, attacks from tigers and lions and rampaging elephants, storms in the open ocean getting to their missions in the first place, or knife fights arising from the misunderstandings arising from no common language.
A large fraction of the famous explorers of the past were rich brats with nothing better to do with their lives than haunt London clubs wasting their time on cards, booze and showgirls. Some others were too poor even to afford being explorers but managed it nonetheless.
No society survives when everyone does insane things. But no society survives when no one takes risks either. Folks need to keep perspective.

No. I never flew around the World.
We obviously have different perspectives on this subject. My wife and I wouldn't want our daughter doing that but we are not a nautical family nor is our daughter a sailor.
Sixteen year olds used to be expected to function as adults. For a competent sailor that is mature for her age to attempt such a voyage in a vessel a seasoned captain couldn't begin to dream about 100 years ago does present risk but not to the point of being reckless or foolhardy IMO.
