Germany wants U.N. walkout if Amadinejad denies Holocaust

Germany will walk out of the U.N. General Assembly if Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad denies the Holocaust in a speech he will give Wednesday, and it wants other European Union countries to do the same, the foreign ministry said.

"We will leave the hall if President Ahmadinejad denies the Holocaust or makes anti-Semitic statements ... we are making efforts toward a unified European position," a spokesman said Tuesday.

Ahmadinejad has, as recently as last week, called the Holocaust a lie, repeating his position just as world powers try to decide how to deal with Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Denying the Holocaust, carried out by the Nazis in World War Two, is a crime in Germany. Last week German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier condemned Ahmadinejad's latest denial and called him a disgrace to his country.

Just as interesting will be if we sit there and take it. In my fantasy world, the United States, the UK, Germany, France, the rest of NATO, Australia, Canada, Japan and Israel would all get up and walk out on him.

Actually, I think Hillary Clinton has most of the testicles in congress. Michelle Obama's collection is small, very small indeed, but it may be growing.

Is this not bizarre? The holocaust was instituted by Germany under the Nazi regime, as everyone knows. I can understand Israel walking out, but Germany? This is nothing but a political farce on Germany's part. Germany doeth protest too much me thinks. Cool it!

Me thinks you are funny! Hitlers propaganda and special interests from the mid east drove the holocaust. The german people have been done everything to eradicate the spirit of naziism and the imagery of what they recognize now , hitlery.
In the meanwhile they wee the mideast at work in several ways, attacking the already beaten up jew, and also picking on the Chchristians. They also are having problems integrating the muslims into german society.... it plain old fashioned aint happening.

If you understood the role of the jew in prewar germany , I would think you would have a different opinion. Germany has come to learn the faults and flaws in the hitler regime.

Meanwhile, Obama wants to resurrect a similar government mentality.

Now go figure, bizarro.

Germany doeth protest too much me thinks. Cool it! ........................ Today’s Germany is well aware of the past, 3 generations ago. It wasn’t only the Jews, many Germans were the first to go. The protesters who defied the Government were on the trains too. It can happen here eventually, we are no longer immune. Amanutjob,”Death to the Dictator” has got to be an embarrassment to any educated Iranian.

Not really. Germany was utterly destroyed because of that sick anti-semetic philosophy. For all the moralizing, the average German had about as much ability to stop it, as i did to stop the Obamabots, or something my government does. It became a fear society. People who raised a voice against it were quickly murdered. If you visit there now, you will find the people there are completely open about it. And they feel a unique responsibility to warn the world, when they see someone determined to recreate what happened when their ANCESTORS were in charge.

SO when todays little Hitler starts his anti-jewish crap speech, they won’t sit silently,,,, as the US delegation will, waiting for their photo op.

I think you may not understand what the issue is with Germany. Germany knows they, (specifically the Nazi's) created the holocaust. They are appalled at their own guilt. Even those who were born long afterward are grieved by it. Just remember, Germany and Germans will carry the burden of it forever. They know it and have made it a crime to deny that it happened because they too wish to never forget. I guess it is part of their repentance. They will walk out because Ahmanutjob denies something that they know almost better than anyone can, (besides the Jewish people of course,) what really happened and they want everyone to know that they will not stand for anyone to deny it. That is the best I can explain it as it was explained to me by my Aunt who was a little girl in Hitler's Germany.

For contrast, look at the Russian approach. There, not only do they not apologize, it is becoming more and more illegal to mention Stalin’s even larger mass-murder during the terror of the ‘30s. Germany is the gold standard on how to behave after such an event.

Very arguably, the main reason they are overrun with arabs now, is that they could not bring themselves to exclude them because it seemed racist to them, and felt too much like their past. Poor decision, made for an honorable reason.

“This is nothing but a political farce on Germany's part.”

That's just stupid. Nazism is illegal in Germany unlike in the US. Germany takes the Holocaust very seriously. They have first hand knowledge of it and don't want a repeat.

I would definitely say that Germany has had first hand experience of it since it was the Germans that committed genocide. Of course, no one in Germany knew about it, or at least that is what all my German friends tell me. The truth is that the German people have no more love for the Jews today than they did before 1945. The French are even worse. While we are being honest here, America didn’t go to war to liberate the Jews, and there were those in the FDR White House that were aware of the Holocaust. My criticism with Germany’s show of outrage is that it is only a show. Germans in general could give a rats butt about Israel.

Delegations from Argentina, Australia, Britain, Costa Rica, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, New Zealand and the United States left the room as Mr Ahmadinejad began to rail against Israel, a European source said.

You´re denying the fact that Israel and Germany have a deep friendship since 1949, and that Germany is Israel´s second best ally, right behind the US. Military and armament support have been just one point, mutual visits from the head-of-state-level down to students exchanges another.

The question is why? It is out of guilt, or is it because they truly support the Jews? I can understand why the United States supports Israel. The Jews in America donate large amounts of money to politicians, and the Jews have a disproportionate influence in banking, media, and politics. That's not being ant-semitic, but that's just the truth. Also, there is a significant number of Evangelicals that support Israel for religious reasons.
I fail to see how support of Israel is in Germany's best interest? Why, for instance, would Germany be more supportive of Israel than France, Belgium, Holland, or Spain?
If Germany really wanted to support Israel, it would have been more involved in Iraq, and it wouldn't be supporting Israel's enemies. Talk is cheap. It takes no guts to walkout at the UN, or to act offended. Obama and the libs love to apologize.
Since you seem to know about Germany's support of Israel more than I, maybe you can tell me what Germany has actually done for Israel other than talk? I'm willing to change my views.

I am a German, and fully a philosemit.
It´s not out of guilt, it´s because of our responsibility for the present. Who knows better than Germans that the Jewish heritage needs to be protected against its enemies?
There is no greater support for Israel compared to our friendship with France, the Netherlands, Poland or Britain. We have strong bonds within the EU. The thing is, that we don´t need to repeat that all the time, unlike our relations to Israel. Israel´s future is at risk, so it needs our solidarity and support. Other countries should do the same as we do, but they fail. So, I wouldn´t say our support for Israel is under a general view outstanding, it is outstanding because the rest of the world fails! We don´t do more than what we should do when a democratic and free country is threatened by its terrorist neighbours.
