BOSTON Supporters of a prominent Harvard University black scholar who was arrested at his own home by police responding to a report of a break-in say he is the victim of racial profiling.

"Gates continued to yell at me, accusing me of racial bias and continued to tell me that I had not heard the last of him," the officer wrote.

So... if a neighbor sees somebody attempting to break in your door, and they call the police, should the police just do nothing?
I think you know what I meant.
Good luck at Saratoga.
Eight days to go.

No. But if the police come to my house they shouldn't order me outside. I expect they would ring my doorbell; and that seeing me open the door, they would ask if there was any problem. I would tell them, "No," and they would go away.

I am not black though so I guess I wouldn't have anything to be mad about./SAR
1:)He wasn't inside with the door closed.
2:) Do you think that cops should just take someone's word and not see ID when they have been called out on a break in.
3:)What insurance would the cops have that you were not a criminal breaking into some ones house?
4:)What kind of trouble do you think the officers would have been in if they had taken this guy's word, without ID proof, that he owned the house(which he didn't claim BTW) and it turned out later he was a thief?
He wasn't inside with the door closed.
You seem to know a lot about what happened. The report I saw said he was inside making a phone call to the property owner (landlord) about the problem with the door. I really don't know if he left the door open, or not. You seem to KNOW all the facts. What I think I know is that this guy was in his own house, HIS OWN HOUSE.

First, they apparently didn't give him that opportunity. They just ORDERED HIM OUT OF HIS HOUSE. I do think that if the police had taken the opportunity to take his word or mine and did not do so they should be dropped from the force. Geezers aren't into breaking and entering; and maybe, just maybe, the cops might have some idea whom it is they are working for.
What insurance would the cops have that you were not a criminal breaking into some ones house?
Same answer. Common sense. How do they know the cleaning service folks aren't thieves and ID them? And you know, if the police really weren't sure that the geezer with a cane wasn't a thief, and the want to observe the house for unusual activity for some time, that would be okay. The citizen comes first, or he ought to.

You ask me to reason from a false hypothesis. He did provide identification, according to the reports I saw. You can make the argument that any young male walking around with a messy sweatshirt at three in the morning is probably more likely to have done something illegal than a calm geezer who opens the door. I wonder if you think all these young males should be forced to provide IDs on demand too. I doubt there is any law compelling that a citizen provide identification on demand to a policeman. This isn't 1930s Germany.

Police cannot take someone's word they are the owner without proof, otherwise they will be busted for letting a criminal escape after looting someone's house.
Well, I guess that settles it then. (Did you read anything I wrote?)
You see, I cling to this quaint notion that the Constitution means something, but I guess in this era of TARPs and acting Presidents I'm just out of it.

All your arguments are BS, period.
ML/NJ
I don`t know about BS but your posts are imbued with a smug, condescending arrogance-like we should be sending you thank-you cards for taking time out of your busy schedule to post your pearls of wisdom for us silly little people to learn something from. And any cop in town who is unfamiliar with this bozos name is an imbecile? Who is he, Michael Jackson or Martin Luther King? He sounds more like Ike Turner.
Just a citizen, Joey.

There’s a new thread today entitled “Larry Summers and the financial crisis at Harvard” which puts forth a very detailed look at it.
Race mongers at work.
From the Racist-In-Chief’s speech:
“...there is a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately, and that’s just a fact.”
Why is this a race mongering statement?
How about the fact that black and Hispanics commit far more crimes? Take 100 each of whites, blacks, and Hispanics and check their records. You will find many more crimes committed by the blacks and Hispanics.
However, according to the Racist-In-Chief, those blacks and Hispanics were just “returning America’s wealth to it’s rightful owners” when that racist, white cop arrested them.
