GOP candidate Rep. Duncan Hunter's quiet campaign
Monsters and Critics ^ | December 16, 2007 | By M&C US News

Republican presidential hopeful, Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., like candidates Tancredo, Dodd, Biden and Kucinich, does not get a whole lot of press.

His supporters aren't flying blimps or sashaying Oprah on the stage. The Vietnam veteran began his career in politics at age 32, being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Rep. Duncan Hunter has stated in previous interviews his political hero is the late President, Ronald Reagan, and has steadfastly sought more resources for the military.

Hunter has backed the President on every Iraq vote.

Reporter James Lynch notes that Hunter "silenced the war critics two years ago when he introduced a resolution calling for the deployment of troops to Iraq to end immediately. He opposed the resolution but made his point that the majority of House members supported the war. His resolution was defeated, 403-3."

Hunter, 59, is one of the few politicians who has a child that has served in the armed forces in Iraq. His perspctive is unique as a veteran and parent of an active service member.

On the issues he is a traditional Republican, he votes conservatively on social and fiscal issues.

Hunter was on record opposing NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) and the normalization of trade relations with China.

With regards to immigration, Hunter, whose district includes eastern San Diego, is reportedly a supporter of building fences along the Mexican border.

no, the reason is because pissant is such a pain in the a$$. He has turned more people off of D.H. than are currently supporting him!
C'mon. Pissant's not so bad. I admire his idealism.

You can't blame pissant, you can't blame the press. You have to look to the candidate himself. Some candidates have what it takes to gather a large number of followers, some don't. That's just the way it is.

Assuming one person can bring down a campaign couldn't be a more ludicrous theory.

I’m just ignoring the trolls. If I show up in their threads to bash their candidate they might have a case but the geniuses seem to have a desperate need to come here to claim we bash their candidates.

Children all.

It was a good read until that last sentence??????..unbelievable

At least on Fox & Friends this AM ...around 7:10 they did a segment on the 'bill' that would reduce money for the fence, and mentioned (in passing) that Hunter & Rep.King were agrieved.

LOL! Keepin the faith! good man.

And you keep believing the socialist press and their loaded polls. The same polls that predicted Al Gore had beaten Bush in 2000 and Thomas Dewey had defeated Harry Truman the day after the 1948 election by publishing it in the newspaper! Now that's a laugher!

I suspect this issue isn't dead yet.

A good candidate IGNITES support, the same way a flame ignites a dead pile of leaves.

Interesting analogy. Sadly, not far off the mark.

'The average American voter' - & - 'A pile of dead leaves'.

You are certainly a gloomy Gus. So, basically what you are saying is there is no more room for conservatives in the GOP? It appears even the protege of “The Great Conciliator”, the moderates moderate, Howard Baker, will be pulling up the tent stakes after the SC Primary. The Huckster, Mitt and Rudy are the only ones igniting any support. So, it looks like MITT is the most conservative, without being conservative, by default, huh?

I was glad to see mention of that in the news this morning. The backlash is building again.

Now Brian Kilmeade is talking about it again. It’s going to be a big story.

I'm not here to bash anybody. Hunter is a good man. I acknowledge that. I just think it's an interesting subject to discuss, why this good man is going nowhere.

Some want to blame the press. Other's want to blame certain syndromes.

But here's a question: Hunter's been in all the debates, why hasn't his support in opinion polls gone above 1%. It costs nothing to say to a pollster "I support Duncan Hunter". You're not giving up your vote. You're not "wasting" your vote. If you watch Hunter in the debates (and millions of Republicans have) and you're polled, and you think he did a good job, you would certainly say to the pollster: "I like Duncan Hunter".

But only 1% of the people are saying that, even after all the debates.

Why?

You can't blame the press or any "syndromes" for that.

Sorry for the misinterpretation and good for you but I take media polls with a grain of salt.

I like Hunter the best, but he doesn’t seem to be able to ignite widespread support of his campaign.

That's a big assumption not based on any fact, especaily considering no vote has been taken!

Hunter's been in all the debates, why hasn't his support in opinion polls gone above 1%.

If you watched the debates then you also should have realized they have put him at or near the end podium and is one of the last candidates ask a question. One debate he was not asked a question until 28 minutes into the debate after the media perceived front runners had been asked at least two questions. The facts about the press ignoring Hunter are there even if you choose to deny them.
