California Fire Battalion Chief - Whoever Did This Knew What They Were Doing

October 22, 2007

Fire officials are now stating that the Orange County Santiago fire was purposely set and there is speculation that other fires may have also been deliberate. See Interactive Map

Fire officials found three separate “points of origin,” all near the intersection of Silverado Canyon Road and Santiago Canyon Road. Two were on one side of the road, and the third was on the other. “Whoever did this knew what they were doing,” said Kris Concepcion, a fire authority battalion chief. Also, the fire traveled 3 miles in its first 20 minutes when it was ignited about 6 p.m. Sunday, he said.

We are NOT implying that the California fires are an act of terrorism however; the threat of pyro-terrorist attacks pose a significant risk to the U.S. and the fires in California and in Greece earlier this year should be a wake-up call.

In 2003 an FBI memo alerted law enforcement agencies that an al-Qaeda terrorist being held in detention had talked of masterminding a plot to set a series of devastating forest fires around the western United States.

It was reported that the detainee, who was not identified, said the plan involved three or four people setting wildfires using timed devices in Colorado, Montana, Utah and Wyoming that would detonate in forests and grasslands after the operatives had left the country.

“The detainee believed that significant damage to the U.S. economy would result and once it was realized that the fires were terrorist acts, U.S. citizens would put pressure on the U.S. government to change its policies,” the memo said.

How Can So Many Fires Be By Natural Causes ?

A Local News Radio talk show host in San Diego asked, “how can so many fires, in so many places, in such a short period of time, all be caused by natural causes”.

As we have stated before. If you see anything suspicious, report it to law enforcement immediately.

UPDATE: Video - Officials say arson now suspected in Orange County Fire

UPDATE: From Los Angeles Fox News

“I’m sad to report this is an arson fire,” OCFA Chief Chip Prather announced at an early morning briefing. “There were three separate starts: two on one side of the road and one on the other, and obviously we are actively investigating that.”

Links - A number of blogs and websites have sprung up to report on the fires. We will provide links to a couple we’ve found.

Okay, here is what I have heard from some respectable sources...Majority of these fires have been set by Islamic Fundamentalists who disliked the Terminator movies, are envirofreaks, and are 6 figures in debt on their mountain homes near Sand Diego. Does that cover all the angles?

>They are dirtiest of the dirty fighters.<

So far I haven’t seen them do anything that the Viet Cong wouldn’t do. I’d hate for them to just be given that title without earning it.

Sorry, I had spent 10 minutes looking for the link and couldn't find it.

My bad. I will look again in a bit -- my son needs the computer for research for a school project now.

Cheers!

Can you imagine someone running up to a fire engine asking for help because her better half was now trapped in their home. Hey, he only wanted to keep posting about the coming fire on the internet.

ROFLMAO!!!

I'm late to the thread, but if this were terrorism, I think it's bad terrorism.

Forest fires tend to cause a lot of damage but few deaths, and everything is replaceable.

If a terrorist really were to start a bunch of forest fires, it would have to be for a diversion of civil response so that the real attack can happen elsewhere.

We should be looking at what happens next to confirm if this is terrorism or not.

I trend towards believing this could have been construction company owners/contractors who find themselves out of work after a RE boom.

I bet in two weeks, a lot of these unemployed contractors will be back to work.

Envrio-Whacko's will likely be outed as the cause to one or more of these fires -

The MSM will drop this story stat within the next two weeks - Just like the VA University shooting - Once it didn't fit the template (of attacking the GOP / or advancing a DEM cause) it was dropped!

I wonder . . . perhaps in a matrix world . . .

BOXERFACE would flap her yap so vigorously that she’d slap herself into another dimension and we’d be rid of her.

. . . an amusing idle fantasy . . .

but, hey, we have to dream!

“The Santa Ana winds always bring out the firebugs.”

Tonight the Nightline special report on the fires quoted one of the fire chiefs that about 15% of the fires historically have been set by arsonists.

As to terrorists taking up this as a way to cause the American people to soften up our policies. Obviously, they know even less about the way we think than we know about their thought processes. They have no idea how much this will enrage us, including those who are relatively liberal politically.

Actually, the large amount of rebuilding will create a stimulus to the economy, and more homes will be built or sold. I feel sorry for all the people who have lost so much. Thankfully, the communities learned from the last big fires and so far the death toll is only 6 compared to more than 20 the last time.

“One dirty little secret is a surprisingly large number of wildfire arsons are set by firefighters.”

Or to put it another way, a surprisingly large number of arsonists become firefighters.

They are NOT Santa Ana winds. They ARE Santana winds, meaning Devil winds.

Wrong. Those of us who grew up with these winds have always referred to them as Santa Ana Winds. They were called Santa Ana winds long before I was born.

There was a desert wind blowing that night. It was one of those hot dry Santa Anas that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands' necks. Anything can happen. You can even get a full glass of beer at a cocktail lounge.

“so many [fires] cropping up all at once, despite the Santa Anas and heat wave... are very suspicious.”

Actually, aside from the predictible percentage of arson, the primary causes are: a very rainy season last year which caused major growth of underbrush, a severe drought this year, lots more people pushing out into the brush country since the last big one, and unusually long and severe Santa Ana winds of 70 to 100 miles per hour lasting for several days rather than only one day.
