Ayman al-Zawahiri Says Al Qaeda Wants to Spill More U.S. Blood Before America Leaves
In a new video posted today on the Internet, al Qaeda's number two man, Ayman al Zawahiri, mocks the bill passed by Congress setting a timetable for the pullout of U.S. troops in Iraq.
"This bill will deprive us of the opportunity to destroy the American forces which we have caught in a historic trap," Zawahiri says in answer to a question posed to him an interviewer.
Continuing in the same tone, Zawahiri says, "We ask Allah that they only get out of it after losing 200,000 to 300,000 killed, in order that we give the spillers of blood in Washington and Europe an unforgettable lesson."
Based on the references to the bill, the tape, produced by al Qaeda's propaganda arm, as-Sahab, appears to have been made after Congress passed the legislation last week but before President Bush vetoed in on Thursday.
According to Laura Mansfield, a counter terrorism analyst with Strategic Translations, an organization that monitors al Qaeda postings, the tape was posted on the Internet this morning and covers the usual range of Zawahri's topics including Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine.
There has been a flurry of audio and video releases featuring Zawahiri, although no new communication from Osama bin Laden since early 2006.
[I]f you yield to a threat, you do so in order to avoid war, and more often than not, you do not avoid war. For those before whom you have thus openly demeaned yourself by yielding, will not stop there, but will seek to extort further concessions, and the less they esteem you the more incensed will they become against you. On the other hand, you will find your supporters growing cooler towards you, since they will look upon you as weak or pusillanimous. But if, as soon as you become aware of your adversarys intentions, you prepare to use force, even though your forces be inferior to his, he will begin to respect you, and, since those with which you were allied will now esteem you, they will be ready to help when you begin to arm, which they would never have done had you given up.

Amazing how alike Al Qeda leadership, the Mullahs in Iran and the Democrat Leadership of the Do Nothing Congress sound.
If you haven't seen this yet: A campaign by active-duty troops asking Congress to drop plans for a withdrawal from Iraq. Lt. Jason Nichols, a 33-year-old naval projects officer who has been in Baghdad since mid-January, said the goal is to keep lawmakers focused on letting the military finish its mission in Iraq, and not prematurely declare failure

When I first saw the headline I thought it was a thread about Lord Haw Haw Reid.
"This bill will deprive us of the opportunity to destroy the American forces which we have caught in a historic trap," Zawahiri says in answer to a question posed to him an interviewer.
Sounds like that boy is on some serious drugs.
I don’t know who is more deluded. The foaming at the mouth left or Zawahiri and his “yes I live in a cave but we beat America” crowd.
There is currently a higher price being paid by those who don't supporting giving them aide either directly / indirectly by AQ and Taliban.....
Long past time for this SOB to be put in the ground.....
The Iraq parliament still does not have enough members that actually show up so that there can be a quorum. For that reason, a working Iraq government cannot form. Now they want to take the summer off for a long vacation. This makes the US look like a fool. We police their streets while they vacation in Paris.
People, this stuff sells in the Mid East. This will help their fundraising and their recruiting efforts.
If we leave, expect al-Qaeda to greatly expand.
Sounds like he’s giving cover to the Democrats to me.
Iraqi's are dying for their country (and policing their own country) at levels much higher then anyone.
With that said, I'm in agreement that it is foolishness that their Gov't is going on vacation for two months. But, that is Gov't....and I would suggest they are further along in the process then we even thought (considering the length of time they feel entitled to take off so soon).
And, No, we don't need another 200,000 troops in Iraq. About 10-20% of that will suffice....
EXTREMELY odd that ABC is the only press agency to currently have this.
Zawahiri has flipped his wig
I agree that leaving would be insane. But at the same time, it doesn’t seem that the Iraqis are taking this very seriously. The Shiites seem to believe that we have put them in charge and they can go off to Paris now; the Sunnis are busy stoking their grievances, some of which are legitimate now that they have turned into the victims, and we didn’t support the secularists enough at the start to make them a realistic force. Our big hope would have been people who did not want to continue with the horrible Islamic model, but for some reason (mostly naivete and ignorance), we let the Islamists get control, enshrine Islam in their constitution, and now we are stuck with the results.
We could still do it, but it would mean a complete revision of our policy.

Maybe after Reid declares defeat and goes home, Al-Zawahiri will fly into Baghdad airport and give a big speech under a “Mission Accomplished” sign.
Iraqis are dying because Sunnis are killing Shiites and shiites are killing Sunnis. Iraqis are not dying for their country -- they are killing each other because they disagree in their religious beliefs.
Meanwhile, Al Qaeda crosses the borders killing our troops. Our troops are pinned down in the Green Zone, for the most part -- because we don't even trust the Iraqis we are trying to protect. The Iraqis believe in their hearts that it's okay to kill Americans -- since they are occupiers.
No, we don't need another 200,000 troops in Iraq. About 10-20% of that will suffice....
That will be about the size of our surge. I support the surge -- but all the generals will tell you that it is far to few to accomplish a victory -- especially when Iraq doesn't even have a government that lives inside of Iraq. Because Iraqis are killing each other, very few Members of Parliament are willing to show up. Half of them don't even live inside Iraq anymore. Parliament has voted on NOTHING this year because they don't have a quorum.
If he expect 200 or 300k killd, the US will be in Iraq for 100 yrs. Enough time to turn theat God forsaken part of the world into Vermont!!
That entire area needs a massive wildfire...
