Prayer Request - Piper's Buddy Garrett Went Home
Phone Call ^ | January 29, 2007 | HiJinx

Posted on 01/29/2007 5:08:55 PM PST by HiJinx

Awhile back, we came to our wonderful FR family and asked for prayer for little 2 year old Garrett. He had suffered a seizure and convulsions, and the doctors put him in a coma to let the seizures run their course. He came out of it after a couple of weeks, and has been in physical therapy ever since.

His daddy is in the Navy, and they bent over backwards to help this family with their needs.

Garrett and his mommy were flying from Phoenix back home to San Diego today when Garrett stopped breathing. They made an emergency landing in Yuma, but it was too late. Garrett just didn't make it.

The family is converging on Yuma now, and will be making arrangements in the next few days. I'd ask that those of you so inclined pray for Garrett's family, and mine. Many of you know my granddaughter; her mom and Garrett's mom are like sisters, and this has hit her hard.

Prayers going up!
From the heart of one mother who has lost a son, to another who is now suffering the pain...May God give you all peace, wrap His loving arms around you (He too knows the pain of this kind of loss) and may you feel His presence and His comfort!

HiJinx, I just saw this. I'm so sorry to hear this. I've been keeping Garrett in my prayers even though I haven't posted. I'll keep his family and your family in my prayers. Many, many hugs to all of you. I care so much.

Thank you, freema.
The kids appear to be doing as well as can be expected.
There's a whole lot of pain, but they are surrounded by family and their respective church families.

the little boy's mother sheds her tears
for come true is the worst of fears
the boy, now cherub, gazes down from on high
and wonders "why does my mommy cry?"
"Here I know not pain, and happy I am"
"For the Lord is my Shepherd, and I his Lamb"

prayers from V.A. in New Orleans to Arizona, California, Heaven, and wherever they're needed

Lord, you said, "Let the little children come to me." To you I entrust Garrett who has left us. He was but a child and so precious in your sight. You, Lord Jesus, became a little child for our sake. You welcomed children and promised that the kingdom would be theirs. Take Garrett into your arms and lead him into heaven where there will be no more tears, no more suffering, no more pain. Grant him the fullness of joy and eternal peace. You know the burden of our grief over the death of Garrett. One day unite us again. Amen.

To: HiJinx; All
I wanted to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for the warm thoughts and kind words. We found hope, friendship, and strength in all your prayers.

We laid Garrett to rest this morning. We had a beautiful ceremony this morning at our church. The weather was sensational, making it perfect while at the cemetery. Garrett's parents Mike and Lauren were surrounded by friends, family, and well-wishers. We all had our fair share of sad tears, warm memories, and joyful stories with which to console one another with. Mike and Lauren are doing as well as one could expect, and look forward to putting this trauma behind them and focusing on their son Collin, who will turn 5 months on the 11th. Their love and dedication to one another has shone through and through this week. God has truly wrapped His arms around them both and comforted their souls with His grace.

Some of your posts concerned how Piper was adjusting to the loss, so I thought you would like a quick update. All in all, our little AZFlyBaby is doing pretty good. It's been rough on her this past week, staying first with my wife's parents and then my own (Thanks a million HiJinx, we just don't know what we would do without you and HiNana...hee hee hee...think she would like that nickname?). She's being a bit of a Sassy-pants, but it's probably just because she can feel the tension and sorrow at home. We're doing much better now, and will reestablish our normal routine tomorrow. I'm confident Piper will settle back to her normal sweet self soon.

Piper isn't quite to the point of asking why things happen, which has been our saving grace. We told her that God had called Garrett home, and he was in Heaven with the angels. I haven't had to come up with any reason why yet, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. As for now, Piper seems to have accepted that Garrett is in Heaven.

As for myself and my wife, we're drained. There isn't much emotion left right now. We're well, though. After some rest and the chance to get our affairs back in order, we are going to be just fine. Your prayers have helped significantly, though. We wouldn't be well if it weren't for the strength of the Lord and the support of our friends. We focused a great deal on supporting Mike and Lauren, and now look forward to focusing on our emotions while climbing away from the grief and despair that was so overwhelming merely days ago.

Mike and Lauren asked us to extend their thanks for all the support. We provided them with some of the links and information regarding the various support groups that some of you supplied. In time, those resources may prove vital during their recovery.

So, it's time to go lie down and catch our breath. Thank You all again, and God bless you. We're grateful for everything. Oh, and a special thanks to HiJinx, who did absolutely everything he could for us from the first moment. You're a phenomenal man, Sir. I know from experience that it has a great deal to do with the wonderful woman that stands by your (our) side. Give her a big hug and kiss for me.
