Nice to see someone post their team allegance rather than "Belichuk sux cuz he.....well he wears a grey sweatshirt". I'm over the loss already and I'm as much a Patriots fan as anyone. I've had season tickets since the Krafts bought the team and have been fortunate to see them make four Super Bowls in the last 11 seasons - with three titles. Lots of big time wins with many down to the last possession. Last night the Colts came out and fought hard in the 2nd half and deserved to win. Simple as that. All you people crowing about the Pats "choking", who's your team? How many PLAYOFF appearances do they have? How about Conference Title Games? Super Bowl appearances? SB Wins? Post your team please.
Football is sudden death. It's who pulls it out on the day.
In other sports, finals are played over a best of seven series. That usually smooths out bumps, crazy calls and fluke plays. You have confidence that you've actually found the best team.
'Course, that's also what gives football it's excitement. Loser goes home. There's a finality to it. I still think San Diego is the best team in the NFL. If McCree hangs onto that interception last week, they'd probably be on the plane to Miami by now.
Mmmmm...Definitely.
You could say it's luck Lad T stayed healthy all year. He gets a season ending injury in week 2, how many wins does SD have? Not 14. It goes both ways.
I remember during the eighties, there was a comic strip called Tank McNamara. It was around the time Boston was in contention for national titles in all the major pro sports, and managed to blow it each time. The comic strip showed an English class in the future and the term they were learning was "Boston It", as to "blow it". I've been using that term ever since I met my husband, because he is from Boston. The poor guy was so frustrated yesterday. We turned off the TV at half time to have dinner and he tuned back into a nightmare. Oh well, we're the misery-loves-company couple because I am a Trojan fan and STILL eating my heart out over the UCLA game -- heck I haven't gotten over last year's championship game! In the Pat's defense, they did have a lot of guys on defense recovering from the flu. Oh well!
I wanted the Bears for history's sake and I wanted the Colts because I like Manning. All I want now is a good game between the two of them. As for who is going to win, well, I haven't picked a winning football game in over 2 years. I think I'm 0 for 1,347.
And as for my Lions, the last time they were ever favored to win was against the Christians.....
The question of who stays healthy over the regular season is an entirely different subject, though an interesting one.
My point, in case it's not obvious, is that any team can have a bad day. Your Pats, for instance, lost at home to the mediocre Broncos during the regular season. Does that mean the Broncos are a better team?
Grossman has not "regressed for much of this season". Like any qb especially a young qb he has had some bad throws and games but he has also had some of the very BEST games this season. If he has a rating over 70 for this game the Bears will win it and my belief is it will be even higher.
LoL I'll HAPPILY take that game any day.
Are you serious? The Pats still made it to the AFC Championship game after knocking off a far superior San Diego team and despite losing 3 straight in the mid-season.
I understand your point - BUT - there's only 16 games in the season. Would you have the Pats and Chargers play a 3 game series to eliminate the "luck factor"? That's not practical. So, my point about the regular season is that, just as luck is a factor in "only" one playoff game, so it is in every game during the season. Look at how KC got into the playoffs - on a missed FG by the Bengals. The Bengals make the FG and it changes the wild card matchups. Maybe Cincy beats the Pats. Maybe Denver gets in and SD beats them. There are bounces in every game and given how tight the NFL is in terms of good teams, it's right that there's one game.
Heh, Caldwell's eyes were bigger than a giant squid's. Maybe the Pats wish they would have kept Branch now.
It's nice when things work out like that. Unfortunately for me, my favorite teams are the Bengals and the Cardinals, so I won't be expecting them to meet in the SB anytime soon (although I could see the Bengals there soon if they fix their D--the Cards have a bit more work to do).
I only wish one of those black coaches had asked a reporter how it felt to have to ask a stupid question.
Since you aren't a football fan why are you posting in this thread?
Only a plastic fake fan would call a defensive battle boring.
But there are people who watch it for the stupid endzone dances.
Pats were due for some bad calls against them. The game was in Indy, so home-cookin' to a degree should be expected. Pats were up by 18, and the Colts had to come back repeatedly to win it. Was it a perfectly called game? No. Did that affect the outcome? I don't believe so.
I agree. Personally I think the Pats and Colts are two of the classiest organizations in pro sports. You don't see a lot of the showboating and trash talking from them that has become so prevalent these days. It's nice to just watch two teams play good football.
I actually had a chance to have a short conversation with Rex on Saturday night.
I was at the Cubs fan convention and the Bears were at the same hotel. I was at the piano in the main lobby playing Bear Down Chicago Bears and he walked over.
Nice kid. Gorgeous, very pregnant wife.
And I dated his cousin in high school.
EPIC!
LOL, no joke. It IS unusual, if overplayed.
I say dump Miami and play this at Ross-Ade stadium in West Lafayette (Purdue)
conveniently located halfway between Indy and Chi just off I65
:-)
