It's beginning to be impossible (or is it just me) to keep up with how this story is moving throughout the news today. Rather denies, Rather doesn't deny; CBS has/has not an internal investigation; it's Karl Rove's idea; it's Kerry's people; the wife/son say it wasn't their husband's/dad's memo; it's Bush's fault (had to include THAT one); it's a computer/typewriter; GOOD GRIEF ! Is this story HOT or what?

He states that he will show superscript in other Bush documents from that era. Has anybody looked at those?

When John Kerry was asked to comment, he said "I was for using superscript before I was against it"

I saw some that did not match, but maybe he's found some that do. On the other hand, there are a whole lot of problems with those documents beyond merely the superscripts.

He should be able to demonstrate that an IBM Selectric typewriter of the early 70's can create a document that looks like their forgeries!

He got that information from the same people who gave him the memo in the first place.

To everyone who has hit the media, the members of the radical left, and made certain that Dan Rather eats crow. I congratulate you. We all need to stand up and take a bow...but not yet...there is still lots to do.

I'm expecting a sloppy whitewash from CBS.

But don't forget a couple of things:

1. The WH has not yet weighed in.

2. The blogosphere is what got this on page 1, and as long
as CBS is demonstrably lying, the net can keep it there.

His stance will be that, regardless of whether the documents are valid, other sources have verified the information in them as being correct - thereby trying to rendor the documents, themselves as just window dressing and still sticking by their story.

Unless he is interviewed by either Brit Hume or Bernard Goldberg, it will be a whitewash. We can't let them get away with it. This could be the death blow for the old media. Let's finish Rather and his ilk off.

We did it Wednesday night, we can do it again. Everybody get ready to ride Sunday at eight!

Rather is going to go with a barrage of other anti-Bush DNC talking points guard "evidence" to claim the story is true "anyway." he's also going to claim that the documents "could" be real. He is going to pretend that suffices to answer whether an enormous preelection fraud/ forgery was unleashed on the American people.

In other words, "we don't need no steenkin memos to hate Bush."

By now they should have the model and make of the typwriter. Perry Mason's Detectives would have that in 5 mins. It is so obvious a fake it is hideous.

Is Dan Rather going to qualify himself as a typeface expert so that he can then ask questions of himself regarding the authenticity of the documents in question or is he going to have another expert on the air who will discuss the authenticity of the documents? I am giving odds that Dan will be the expert and not some legit third party.

seebs claims that the document was checked by experts. If they do not name the experts, then the whole thing is a lie from the very first. They were not even incompetent victims of a scam. Experts who are really worthy of being experts have no reason to remain anonymous.

If Rather doesn't knock one out of the park this time, then he's finished. "They might be authentic" doesn't cut it here. He's gonna have to lay out the entire thing, including the source of these documents, and it better be a credible source. And the source had better be able to produce the originals.

The number of inconsistencies and irregularities that are presented by these documents is astounding, and a "might be" doesn't suffice.

Way to boost those ratings, CBS!!!!

1. Push "big story" on President to get huge ratings.

2. Use discredited vice-chair of Kerry campaign and fake documents as evidence for "big story."

3. Wait to see if anyone notices.

4. If someone notices, trumpet upcoming response on nightly news show that nobody will watch anymore unless they think they are going to see Dan Rather hang himself.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

What does CBS have to lose? At least people are going to watch!
