UFO Invasion at Rendlesham on the SCI FI channel (Live Thread)

About the Rendlesham Incident

In late December 1980, in Rendlesham Forest, England, numerous U.S. military personnel witnessed what has come to be regarded as the most significant military-UFO incident in the history of Great Britain.

The servicemen were posted to the RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge facilities — which together constitute one of the largest NATO bases in rural Suffolk, East Anglia — when, on December 27, they noticed unusual lights and activity near the base's back gate. A trio of security patrolmen led by Jim Penniston, thinking a military aircraft might be down or in distress, ventured into Rendlesham Forest to investigate. There they observed a variety of unearthly phenomena that none of them could explain, as well as an airborne object obscured by its own blinding light.

The next day, December 28, they returned to the forest and found three radioactive depressions in the ground where the object had been sighted. That night, other witnesses in surrounding areas saw an intense red light pulsating and moving through the trees.

Soon afterward, several of the men involved, including Airman Larry Warren, were debriefed by U.S. and British officers and ordered to sign documents contradicting their firsthand accounts. Furthermore, they were told to remain silent and were warned by U.S. military intelligence personnel that, if they didn't, "Bullets are cheap."

Two weeks after these incidents, Lt. Colonel Charles Halt (who retired years later following his promotion to colonel) wrote a memo detailing everything that the patrolmen had seen and sent the document to his superiors at the Pentagon — and the most comprehensive cover-up in the history of Britain began.

But the truth has refused to remain hidden. In December 2002, the British Ministry of Defense released a file on the Rendlesham incident that comprised 180 pages of previously classified memos, letters, reports and correspondence. But despite the British government's admission that a UFO-related incident took place near the Bentwaters and Woodbridge airfields in 1980, the U.S. government still refuses to release its own files about the encounter.

Now SCI FI brings you this shocking exposé, complete with documentation, new physical evidence and firsthand accounts by both military and civilian witnesses — including Penniston and Halt, who have jeopardized their reputations and military pensions in order to seek out the truth. Join host Bryant Gumbel as SCI FI presents its exclusive investigation of one of the most important UFO incidents of the 20th century.

He didn't mention that he touched it at the time. Why would that not be in Halt's official after-action report?

I could have sworn I heard them say it was clear

"Clear" in Britain means that it was not raining, not that it was not overcast.

Col. Halt ... said that it went back and forth.

Yeah, as he went north or south in the woods, the lights from the lighthouse and lightship located to the east seemed to move parallel along with them. Have you ever watched the moon through the woods from a moving car?

The lighthouse it more implausible considering that the sightings that night were not made by one frightened civilian. They were made by a dozen or so military men, charged with the security of a nuclear base, who were SCARED. No one said "hey- I think that's just a lighthouse beam", or "that's just a searchlight".

You also ignore the corroboration by the civilians in the area, who saw nothing like a lighthouse beam, and who were familiar with conditions in the area.

I have a strange image of you being dragged aboard an alien spacecraft like that guy in the "To Serve Man" episode of "The Twilight Zone" screaming "But I thought it was just a lighthouse"! LOL!

Have to go. Keep watching the skies (just kidding)!

The Sci-Fi people should have waited until nightfall, shot some footage of the lighthouse beam playing through the woods (if it's still operable) and let the viewer decide if grown men with serious military responsibilities would have thought they were within a few feet of an unprecedented air craft based upon what we see.

CNN did this once. They showed the lighthouse and played the tape at the same time. It matches PRECISELY. He shouts "there it is again" each time the lighthouse flashes towards them. When they move north they can then see the Shipwash Lightship (which was not always on) and they confuse it with additional lights.

So you actually want me to believe that space aliens landed there instead?

How do you explain that the color of the light being seen was the same as the lighthouse?

Is it normal for a lighthouse to have red, white and blue colored lights?

None reported any sightings that night. Only after the story came out did they step forward to make a claim to have seen something.

That's not the motion or sighting described. And humans, though error-prone, DO process information when repeatedly exposed to it (like a recurring lighthouse beam), and compare it to their experiences in order to identify phenomena and decide how to react to it. Especially soldiers stationed in the area, charged with base security during the Cold War.

I guess the radar signals were the lighthouse hovering over the base, too.

It's not impossible that some of them were. Not all claim to have been injected, and the one that was thought that it was sodium penathol.

It's easy to write off that these type of agents exist unless you have had up close and personal experience with them. They do exist and are every bit as scary and cold eyed as this documentary portrays them.

I though they were killed by Country and Western music.

So it was just a coincidence that the "UFO" was seen in line with the lighthouse? Did you read my earlier post? One of the witnesses said he could see both the UFO and the lighthouse. But the location he gave for the lighthouse was not where the lighthouse actually was (and still is) located. It is where the lightship was located. The location he gave for the UFO is where the lighthouse actually is located.

There are no credible reports of radar signals from anywhere near Bentwaters at the time. Do you have any evidence of this?

Yes it is. Listen to the tape.

He said it was smooth like glass and warm. This has nothing to do with a lighthouse, he either saw what he said, or he didn't.

Or he lied...

Here is what Halt reports it looks like on the tape he made: "It's a strange, small red light." And an airman corrects (corrects the base commander!) to say it looks yellow to him. Where do you get "red, white, and blue"?

But seriesly, they could be around.

Halt is looking at the lighthouse through the night-scope and he says this: "It looks like an eye winking at you. Still moving from side to side." He is seeing the rotation of the beacon. It "winks" when it points directly away. It appears to go back and forth as he sees the beacon first appear on the left (pointing north) and then "winking" out as it points away, and then he sees it to the right (with the beacon pointing south) and it appears to be "going back and forth." The evidence is overwhelming that it was the two beacons that they were looking at; one from the Orfordness Lighthouse and the other from the less often seen Shipwash Lightship. They were confused by seeing them through the trees and making a mistake as to the distance away it was.

Where do you get "red, white, and blue"?

I recall that the dramatizations of the Rendlesham object's lights on the Sci Fi channel documentary were red, white, and blue.
