Marianne Williamson: 'We need to renew the ban on assault weapons'

In the wake of two mass shootings last weekend, 2020 presidential candidate Marianne Williamson is calling to renew a ban on assault weapons.

“The president has said that there's ... no political will or appetite for a ban on the assault weapons,” Williamson told Yahoo Finance’s Adam Shapiro in an interview this week.

“This is clearly untrue. 70% of all Americans want to renew the ban on the assault weapons,” she added, apparently referring to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll out this week.

The two shootings from last weekend both used military-style assault rifles, which can be used to fire rapidly. In a shooting at a Walmart (WMT) that killed 22 people in El Paso, Texas, a suspect used an AK-style semiautomatic rifle. And, as The New York Times reported, a Dayton, Ohio, gunman killed nine people in just 30 seconds using an AR-style pistol.

I would ask her very directly, why? Why renew a ban that provably had no effect? Hey, why don't you require all "assault weapons" owners to grow vegetable gardens? It would have just as much of an effect on crime rates as your ban.

The real truth is, they don't want an "assault weapons" ban to improve public safety. They want an "assault weapons" ban to ban rifles with certain features, period. They want the ban because they want the ban, they are using the latest incidents as an excuse. The worst kind of political opportunists.

IF your 8x57 mm was a SPANISH SCORPION, AKA: The Model 1893 “long rifle” of the S-A War era, I’d try to trade you out of it, as I’m putting together a S-A War display. = “THE MARVELOUS LITTLE WAR” is one of my main/numerous interests.

Model 93 rifles were once commonplace (I once had a MINT ‘93 that was made in 1896 but it was destroyed in an apartment house fire years ago.) but in 2019 the supply of Spanish Scorpions seemx to have “dried up”.

Agree with your post 100% - although as I have the twin brother, I would like to include what may be the most infamous clip fed rifle of all. The Carcano Model 91/38 (aka Mannlicher-Carcano) - Ole LHO must have been one hell of a shot as I have never been able to sight it in for even a 10” group at 100 yards. ( 8 rds per clip) 6.5

Fyi, a LOT of 91/38 rifles/carbines have oversize bores & they do WELL oftentimes with a 120 grain GCCB, made of straight wheel-weights, at about 1800FPS, IF the GCCB actually FITS the bore.

Perfectly acceptable Whitetail & mid-size critter killers are the old Carcanos out to 200M, with a PROPER size bullet & modest charge of H4895 powder. = When $$$ were tighter than Dick’s hatband, I had a friend who ALWAYS got his deer each year & kept his family well-fed on feral pork with a 91/38 rifle that he paid 5 bucks for at a hock-shop.

Watching Jeanine Pirro on her Fox Show.
She seems to have a problem with the phrase “shall not be infringed “.

Every problem in the USA would disappear if we’d ban democrats.
All voter registrants claiming to be democrat should be subject to an enhanced background check.

May I suggest that you load (OR get a friendly local reloader to load for you) up some 160-200 grain GCCB at about 1600-200FPS.

Those relatively low-power Cast Bullet loads are “easy on the shoulder” & will efficiently KILL any USA game other than the BIGGEST bears.
(I shoot/hunt with a Remington Model 760 in .300 Savage & load a 180 grain GCCB load for it that is REALLY MILD in recoil/noise BUT which kills deer really well out to beyond 200M.)

FWIW, my “HOMEBREW” .300SAV gccb reloads cost LESS than 5.OO per box of 20 to load/shoot. = That makes for really inexpensive TARGET SHOOTING/DEER HUNTING.

No? Then STFU.

Yeah, that didn’t work last time. And there are way too many on the street now.

Try again, folks.

They want a ban on semi-autos. All of them. The ban on certain features failed. I'm increasingly believing that they will get one and President Trump will sign it, ending his chances at re-election.

She's the same idiot who proposed outlawing all the ammo that any off-the-rack AR could fire. Last I counted that was more than 50 different cartridges, everything from .17 HM2 to .50 Beowulf.

And since pistol cartridge carbines are in vogue once again, that list also would include the most popular autoloading handgun cartridges, 9mm Luger, .40 S&W & .45 ACP.

There probably already are around 15-20 million arms in public hands that meet the Hoplophobes' definition of an "assault weapon." About 8 million of those are AR-pattern rifles, carbines and 'pistols.' The rest are a mish-mash AK-47 pattern, HK G3 pattern, and FN-FAL pattern and the like.

Which means that to give any such measure teeth, you would have to seize all of them, disarming literally several millions of the best-armed of all American gun owners. And the very fact that would choose to own these sorts of weapons is direct indicator that they might not be willing to hand them over peaceably.
