Donald Trump Dares Ted Cruz To Criticize Him In Public
TPM ^ | 12/11/15 | Caithlin MacNeil

Posted on 12/11/2015 5:40:01 AM PST by VinL

One day after a report that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) questioned Donald Trump's "judgement" in a private event, Trump called out Cruz for criticizing him behind close doors but refraining from negative comments in public.

Looks like @tedcruz is getting ready to attack. I am leading by so much he must. I hope so, he will fall like all others. Will be easy!

.@tedcruz should not make statements behind closed doors to his bosses, he should bring them out into the open - more fun that way!

Cruz has so far refrained from bashing Trump in public. After Trump announced his proposal to ban Muslims from coming to the United States, Cruz disagreed but stopped short of condemning Trump's remarks.

But the Texas senator spoke about Trump and Ben Carson during a Manhattan fundraiser on Wednesday, according to the New York Times.

"Who am I comfortable having their finger on the button? Now that’s a question of strength, but it’s also a question of judgment. And I think that is a question that is a challenging question for both of them," Cruz said of Trump and Carson.

Cruz has started gaining on Trump in the key primary state of Iowa, which may be making Trump uneasy. The real estate mogul has a habit of attacking his Republican rivals when they rise in the polls, as both the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal noted this week. Trump may have released his proposal to ban Muslims from entering the country in an attempt to boost his support with evangelical voters in Iowa.

Note that Trump’s proposed Muslim ban has sucked all of the air time out of the Benghazi email story.

Trump is certainly good on offense. He is pugnacious and can dish it out with the best of them. And that partly accounts for his popularity. He fears no one.

What I’m saying, seriously, is that one should never underestimate an “adversary” like Cruz. He is a savvy debater and doesn’t have to demolish Trump in an exchange of words; just holding his own and scoring a few points is a win for him. In boxing, a fighter who goes the distance and don’t let the champ put him on the canvass elevates his status as a worthy contender.

“While he has said he does not agree with Mr. Trump’s latest provocative proposal, a restriction on Muslim immigrants entering the United States, he has taken pains to praise Mr. Trump for making immigration a focal point of his candidacy.”

while I think it’s a major blunder to have said that about the Muslim immigration plan (which is very popular), I just dont see the massive slap (((IF))) the Times article is accurate.

“I would think also that Christians would have churches with records to back them up in most cases.”

That would certainly speed along vetting.

I was contacted by one of the Waco investigators because of info I provided to the US Attorneys in 1992, you remember the US Attorneys Reno fired, so I have first hand knowledge as to why Perot was in the 1992 election.

OOPS!

It was a private meeting of his own supporters. I just don’t see the ‘smarminess’ of it. It sounds thoroughly strategic intent being explained to me...

I would bet that if Trump had said that about Cruz behind closed doors you would see the “smarminess”.

The one thing this brings to bear on the Trump record is what does he do when attacked? So far he just talks. Did he ever actually do anything against those people he has ridiculed in public? He’s not like the Clinton’s who have a history of what they do to their enemies, or perceived enemies, or to cover up their illegalities.

We need to know how Trump conducts his business. Is he an honorable businessman? How does he treat his competitors? If he has not broken laws or gotten where he is with Mafia morality, then we don’t have to worry about his judgment.

Trump needs to let us know what HE does behind closed doors. We see his personality and hear his words but besides beautiful landscaping and architecture (which means he hires good designers), what do we know about how he competes with others.

He does call people ugly just as many here on FR do and those people may very well need a makeover. Right now we have words. Cruz’s point is we can see his fight with DC. I have no problem with Trump’s judgment because he is a fast learner, but while Trump makes DC nervous, they abhor Cruz.

“Trump’s conservative critics miss the salient point that he could assume far more centrist policies and be ahead of where he is. He could win over the GOPe and queasy Hillary parties and have a near universal mandate.”

I’m going to respectfully disagree with you here. I think that the so called centrist policies are firmly rejected by the electorate at this point, and would have rendered Trump’s campaign just one of the other also-rans. Huckabee, Perry, Rubio, and to a lesser extent the unregistered foreign agent of Mexico are all centrists for the most part. Perhaps such thinking isn’t or never was truly center.

The startling fact is that Trump is center. He - and Sanders - are the vox populi representatives of the two parties at this time.

Well tell me where I’m wrong?

For all of the butt-kissing people give to these people, they almost never pick the nominee, and dont deliver the state in November.

Telling me that I sound like a liberal isnt a rebuttal.

The fact is there would not have been a Perot had Bush Sr not ignored
millions of conservative voters.

“Read my lips, no new taxes” Bush got what he deserved.

A one term Presidency.

Trump, like Bush, has trouble thinking on his feet and can barely finish one thought he starts talking about. He gets easily confused and says anything that pops into his head.

“I think this audio was purposely leaked. Just a hunch I have.”

Of course it was. It reeks of GOPe smirking strategery. This is intended to benefit some empty suit candidate such as JEB!!!! or Rubio. It also indicates that perhaps Cruz should exercise more care in his selection of political intimates.

...if Trump’s going to have a big reaction to it, he’s pretty much underscoring the point Cruz was making.

Lol...it took Trump less than a minute to send a couple of tweets essentially calling Cruz out and I'll wager Cruz spends the next three days dealing with the fall out.

Advantage Trump.

I will stick with Cruz. As time has gone on and Trump’s short fused tirades have escalated, I have serious doubts about him making sound decisions. He may get into a personal pissing match with another world leader and take us into war to settle his perceived slight.

Cruz focuses on taking steps to keep us safe. With Trump everything he does or says is about his own ego.

And who has far greater judgment about “finger on the button” issues than Ted?

The guy that said the following is not qualified to talk about someones elses' judgement

"President Obama's detached and abstract statement yesterday on deteriorating conditions in Egypt is only the most recent manifestation of this Administration's failed policy in that country. As there can no longer be any reasonable doubt that what occurred in July was a military coup, the first step is to send an unequivocal message that the United States is a nation of laws and suspend aid to Egypt."

"Sure he did. Cruz made a pretty innocuous statement and Trump just had to blow it up into internicine war."

I never saw such a thin skin. He behaves more like a juvenile than the old man he is...he takes everything personally and lashes out.

Definitely not presidential material.

Oh, well...he's not the first one to try and bait Cruz. By now he should understand Ted can't be played that way, so yeah, I'd say Trump's judgement is definitely off.

He's intellectually outgunned by Cruz.
