Donald Trump Dares Ted Cruz To Criticize Him In Public
TPM ^ | 12/11/15 | Caithlin MacNeil

Posted on 12/11/2015 5:40:01 AM PST by VinL

One day after a report that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) questioned Donald Trump's "judgement" in a private event, Trump called out Cruz for criticizing him behind close doors but refraining from negative comments in public.

Looks like @tedcruz is getting ready to attack. I am leading by so much he must. I hope so, he will fall like all others. Will be easy!

.@tedcruz should not make statements behind closed doors to his bosses, he should bring them out into the open - more fun that way!

Cruz has so far refrained from bashing Trump in public. After Trump announced his proposal to ban Muslims from coming to the United States, Cruz disagreed but stopped short of condemning Trump's remarks.

But the Texas senator spoke about Trump and Ben Carson during a Manhattan fundraiser on Wednesday, according to the New York Times.

"Who am I comfortable having their finger on the button? Now that’s a question of strength, but it’s also a question of judgment. And I think that is a question that is a challenging question for both of them," Cruz said of Trump and Carson.

Cruz has started gaining on Trump in the key primary state of Iowa, which may be making Trump uneasy. The real estate mogul has a habit of attacking his Republican rivals when they rise in the polls, as both the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal noted this week. Trump may have released his proposal to ban Muslims from entering the country in an attempt to boost his support with evangelical voters in Iowa.

But the nipickers of Trump’s plan will claim that muslim refugees could pretend to be Christian.

Some undoubtedly would, but there are screening techniques, such as monitoring for eye dialation with high-def cameras in response to certain stimuli. Cheap, quick, and easy to train screeners.

And if they are caught being practicing muslims later, then the government ‘owns’ them and might use them as double agents.

No. That’s just Cruz saying he has better judgment. Do you expect him to say he has worse judgment?

Yes and Cruz is the 4th largest recipient of Wall street money of the candidates running in 2016. I am very disappointed with his vote on TPA where I think he had to bend a knee and the vote on the Corker bill was a loser. He has some problems.

After Trump Cruz is my number two choice but I am not dumb enough to think he will be able to accomplish the same significant change that Trump will.

I want a mature adult in the Whitehouse and that is Donald J. Trump.

Perfect summation. Even IF Cruz said that Trump lacked the judgment and temperament to be CIC, who the hell cares?! That's why he's running AGAINST Trump! Cruz is too damn smart to be baited by this.

What I can't understand is that Romney was (rightly) rejected by conservatives in 2012 because he was the grandfather of Obamacare and previously held positions that were too liberal for most conservatives.

Now, Donald Trump, who has praised Hillary Clinton, donated to her campaign and has only started espousing conservative ideals over the past year, SOMEHOW passes the conservative test because he's a loudmouth populist???

Ted Cruz IS the conservative we've been waiting for! Put your emotions aside for a moment and use your God-given common sense!

>> Cruz seems to be trying to obey Reagan’s commandment of not attacking other members of your party <<

Unless those other members happen to be in Congress? In which case it’s OK to bash them without mercy?

Trump wrote what was on his mind in his 2000 book, ‘The America we Deserve’. He was strong on trade, illegals, terrorism and even mentioned bin laden as a threat who shouldn’t have been ignored so easily.

Meanwhile, Cruz was busy handing out teddy bears and soccer balls to illegals on the border last year. Wonder why...

Meanwhile cruz the opportunist who steals rand paul’s and trump’s positions thinks he’ll be the nominee, when he can’t even win enough delegates in blue states and is otherwise the most hated man in washington for being untrustworthy. lol, Cruz made his bed with the nut Glenn Beck and Beck’s soccer balls and teddy bears for illegals, that’s as far as he goes.

Agreed, I overstated that but the rest of my post was praise for him and would absolutely vote for him if Trump flames out.

Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, who has carefully avoided public criticism of Donald J. Trump, said this week at a private fund-raiser that the real estate developer was facing a “challenging question” about whether he has the “judgment” to be president.

While he has said he does not agree with Mr. Trump’s latest provocative proposal, a restriction on Muslim immigrants entering the United States, he has taken pains to praise Mr. Trump for making immigration a focal point of his candidacy.

“No. That’s just Cruz saying he has better judgment. Do you expect him to say he has worse judgment?”

No. But the subject matter, the nuclear button, is calculated to touch on the basic competence of a candidate. As in, one can be right about everything else, but the nuclear button incompetence overrides all considerations, by its very nature.

I’m liking the Don a lot these days but... it could be a very good question, his judgment. He seems completely incapable of not responding to every real or perceived slight. He could get ugly with foreign leaders and create a real mell of a hess.

I watched a few seconds of Trump vs O'Reilly yesterday but I can't stomach O'Reilly anymore. It did seem that Trump was doing a really good job keeping his cool. I was impressed. Since it's primary season all attacks or non-attacks on fellow republicans are very calculated. This one confuses me though.

I’m in the camp of not seeing Cruz’s comments as being necessarily critical, but if Trump’s going to have a big reaction to it, he’s pretty much underscoring the point Cruz was making.

[regarding Trumps big ego]

Yeah, I had favored Cruz back when you defended Trump back in August. I think it often takes a big ego to be such a strong leader. It takes a huge ego to ignore highly educated advisors who offer bad advice.

For example, Cruz is taking some bad advice right now regarding national security while Trump is ignoring the same bad advice.
