A key argument against taking Donald Trump's candidacy seriously is evaporating

Donald Trump's continued dominance of the Republican presidential field has confounded many top pollsters and analysts since he soared to the top of the field in July. And a new poll shows that Trump may not be finished surprising them yet.

A CBS poll released on Sunday found Trump largely in the same position he has been in most major polls in the last several months: on top.

The real-estate mogul again led the pack, with 27% of likely Republican primary voters picking him as their preferred nominee as of today.

You would of said the same thing about Ronald Reagan supporters in 1979.

I know it is disturbing to Intellectuals sensibilities but there is a great need of emotional enthusiasm in a campaign if you are to win Presidential Elections. You need both the head, and the heart, to win the Presidency

I would respectfully disagree. Worship of a politician on a mass scale can be dangerous. Supporters need to lead with their heads, not their emotions

After 50 years of the "war on poverty"

Together with Carter,Clinton and Obama

It's good that there is some emotion for an alternative.

Trump as being much more electable

Yeah....I know...It's a quandary and has been for several cycles.

For me, I am at the tail end of my voting participation due to my age..

Through the last election cycle I was a broken glass straight ticket republican voter.

Because of Obama's re-election and the attacks launched by republican leadership against the evil conservatives and tea party, my entire belief system regarding voting and our Republic was in disarray and really has yet to right it's self so that I have a solid position on this topic.

Part of me wants to retaliate against the GOP, part wants to assure that we at least elect a republican, part of me says "the hell with it".

So I will make up my mind as to voting for trump, when the time comes, and it might not occur until I am in the booth.

So I have to accept that.

Trump endorses Romney

Ted Cruz also supported Romney. So what?

Read his tax plan

Ummmm....I did...

To me, and correct me if I am totally off base, his tax plan is the same redistributionist plan we have had since post WWII with the bracket rearranged, and even fewer people participating in the process.

The Conservative position on this, like the conservative position on the Department of Education, is to rid ourselves of the IRS entirely.

So his tax plan is just a Republican plan and no more, or less.

Ah, the circular firing squad argument.

Trump supported Obama in 2008, and he helped put Terry McAuliffe in the Virginia governor's mansion in 2013.

Swallow it -- if Trump wins the Republican presidency, you're sure going to be swallowing it. Maybe you ought to swallow it now when it won't taste so bad before you start saying things like, "I support Cruz, but Trump ... " etc.

Right NOW is the time to swallow the hard truths to avoid electing bad medicine. It's a dirty job to dish it up as we "haters" sometimes feel compelled to do, but somebody's gotta do it.

If you're willing to vote for Trump for Republican president, do it with your eyes open and heed my tagline.

It's good that there is some emotion for an alternative.

Can't disagree with that! But there has to be a healthy balance between emotion and critical thinking. Unbridled emotional politics is what led to a Mussolini a Hitler - and in many ways, to an Obama; not to equate Trump with any of those three, but you must never allow your heart to be the governor of your political choices.

I’ll vote for him if he is the nominee; but no one from California won’t be having flash-backs or Arnold Schwarzenegger!

Part of me wants to retaliate against the GOP, part wants to assure that we at least elect a republican, part of me says "the hell with it".

I'll bet that the above statement resonates with 99% of all conservatives, me included. And I hate to admit it, but I'm drifting more and more towards that last option.

So. . .who is your anointed one so we can rally FR haters to come out and attack him.

Thing is, since you missed it, there is not a single “pure’ conservative running (except your anointed one) and if we demand perfection we lose.

Of course, you know that Hitlery, Bernie and Crazy Uncle Joe are far better than anyone we have on our side, and once you declare who your anointed one is, we can prove he is unworthy as well.

Circular firing squad. . .but that’s okay, who care in we ave the White House, Senate and House and give them a last chance to act responsibly and with no room for excuses.

Who care if we give the SCOTUS to the dems for the next two vacancies within the next 4-8 years.

I disagree. Right now, the primaries, is the time to start pointing out the flaws in the wrong guys. That's what primaries are all about -- agreeing on what we want in office. I assume we all want limited government Christian conservatism.

I like Cruz because he has the same stance on the issues and on politics as he did 16 years ago, seven years ago, two years ago. He was as opposed to nationalized health care in concept in 1999 as he is today. He was as opposed to Barack Obama in 2008 as he is today.

I can tell you that's why I like him, but YOU NEED TO KNOW that Trump advocated for universal health care in 1999, he enthusasitically supported Barack Obama in 2008, and two years ago helped elect Clinton toadie and DNC former chairman Terry McAuliffe to the Virginia governorship!

And you're willing to vote for that mind in a Republican president??????

With all respect, Papers, schmapers!!!

See the problem here?

Ok, Cruz has said a bunch of nice things what has he actually DONE?

If you want to play this “what if” game no candidate is worthy of your support.

You are talking just like the media. One poster says Trump endorsed McCain & Romney but you are saying Trump supported Obama! So Which is it?

Even I wished the newly elected president would succeed for the country. That is what we Americans do. We have only one president at a time. We support him on inauguration day, hoping he will do what is best for everybody.

But that is history. I am looking forward, not backwards like you. For the future I want Illegals deported, Wall built, and the cheap labor express gone. People like Cruz want to expand H1-B visa cheap foreign labor FIVE times. That would hurt all the young people I kknow more than anything else. That issue trumps all other issues for me in 2016.
