Friday on Newsmax TVs The Steve Malzberg Show, Republican presidential candidate Sen. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said ISIS loves his rival, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trumps idea of seize oil for the benefit of America because it would be a huge recruiting opportunity.
Graham said, Well number one, Donald Trumps plan to destroy ISIS is the most ill-conceived, insanely dangerous idea I have ever heard. Worse than Obama. I never thought I would hear myself say that there is a Republican running for office thats got a worse idea when it comes to radical Islam than Obama. So here is what is going to happen with Mr. Trumppeople are going to say, well is it really smart to go to Iraq and Syria and take their oil for our benefit? Will that destroy ISIS? I dont think so. I think ISIS Loves Donald Trumps idea of having American soldiers taking Mid East oil for our benefit. How big of a recruiting opportunity do you think that would be? It puts Israel, King of Jordan, all our allies at risk. This is an insanely dangerous idea....

Graham/McCain see the world as a game board where America, possessed of infinite resources, can intervene militarily to change regimes and cultures. Trump sees the world as a place defined by money, a place where resources are not infinite but where regimes and cultures can be understood by an economic analysis-almost but not actually a Marxist perspective- and America either makes a profit or takes a loss.
Graham/McCain can fairly be described as unreconstructed neo-conservatives and Trump can fairly be described as a Wharton School of Business graduate. America since World War II has alternated between one perception and the other. After Vietnam we understood that our resources were finite, that asymmetrical wars were difficult and expensive, that on a cost-benefit analysis the game might not be worth the candle. After the first Gulf War, we conceives of America as a lone superpower with overwhelming technology that could effect regime change on the cheap. After the Second Iraq War, we accepted that technology has limits and that wars have unintended consequences.
Graham/McCain at least try to fit their next adventure into the world chessboard but fail to assess the odds or count the cost or even measure the cost against available resources.
Trump seems to understand that military power is ultimately a function of national economic power. His instincts are to wage capitalism, to wage war by waging mercantilism. He understands that a ledger has two columns, profit and loss, and problem with war is that the costs, like the consequences, are apt to run out of control.
My view is that war is expensive and history has precious few examples even of victors who made war at a profit.
Well put. I’m not a fan of this man, but he is actually right on with this one.
That's true whether they're ISIS terrorists or the Saudi princes who build and finance the madrassas who indoctrinate them.
But I repeat myself...
Nationbuilding attempt in iraq was indeed idiotic.
The implication of what Linda is saying is that if the United States fights back in any way, that would be bad because it would be a recruiting tool for ISIS. That was the meme when Bush went into Iraq and Afghanistan.
Oh please. LOL The way people feel around here about Linda started way before Trump.
Your defense of him says far mare about your agenda because negative opinion of Linda arounbd here is pretty much nothing new.
Lindsey has joined the ranks of some of the FReepers who can’t help themselves when it comes to inventing really asinine attacks on Trump....
That’s odd...here in SC when I hear her/him interviewed concerning ISIS, he ALWAYS calls them “ISIL”....told me all I needed to know about what side he/she is on....like I didn’t know it already.
A “huge recruiting opportunity” means nothing if you exterminate them.
Not unlike every other politician ever born ...
The cheering section for Trump reminds me of the same people who thought Obama was wonderful
The problem with direction of American military power in recent memory is the failure to completely defeat (or annihilate if the enemy won’t accept defeat) their foes.
It first requires a firm resolution at the outset before the first troop packs his gear that he is going over there to crush his enemy - completely. If we cannot do that, then it is best to not go at all.
Limited response to Muslim zealotry is not possible.
The first sentence expresses an idea that is contrary to Trumps idea Im surprised you missed it
I hope your still laughing at the next 9/11
Maybe you forgot but Clinton was also “tough” when he went in and blew up an aspirin factory
and the brilliant Mr Trump was far ahead of the crowd in knowing that our war (no Im sorry it was Bush’s war) was a mistake because it destabilized the Middle East and caused ISIS and Al Quaeda
Maybe 9/11 wasn’t on Trumps radar either..he seems to have forgotten it
keep laughing
Trying to get airtime. Not worth responding to.
How and when did the US Senate become one of the most despicable governing organizations on the planet?
Taking away the oil fields from ISIS is taking away the income they derive from them and it is a very easy thing to do. Starve ISIS and they go away.
