CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (CNN) —Each new speedbump that Donald Trump's presidential run hits could bolster the campaign of his competitor, Ted Cruz. Or so Cruz hopes.
Since Trump's controversies first erupted, the Texas senator has been the only Republican not to "smack" Trump, in Cruz's words. But Cruz's allies acknowledge he's not just being nice -- he's trying to preemptively collect support should the billionaire businessman's campaign falter.
After Trump's latest disparaging comments about Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly -- which followed much-criticized rhetoric about immigrants and Sen. John McCain -- Cruz has continued to refuse to take shots at Trump, instead criticizing the media for trying to turn Republicans against each other....

I don’t understand the support for Trump. Cruz has been saying the same things, and more intelligently, before trump came along. Actually, maybe I do.... the media fears Cruz and they’re betting Trump will crash and burn.

Ted Cruz could have a full frontal lobotomy, a head injury, be in a coma and have a stroke and would still be two standard deviations above you on the bell curve.
The media talk about Trump’s appeal to conservatives. What terrifies them is his appeal to moderates!
Best thing Trump is doing for Cruz is keeping Jeb from the front-runner spot.
That moderate vote is not supposed to be divided- it’s all supposed to be Jeb’s! Jeb’s!
Don’t keep flogging that “debate” fireworks meme. That’s ancient history. Donald got a pretty please phone call from Ailes, so he’s going to move on and see how Megyn behaves in the future. So give it a rest.
We’ve got bigger, better news.....like Ford announcing they’re no longer going to build HD Pickups in Mexico. They’re bringing that back home, to Ohio. That should put Ohio in the Trump column.

Love Cruz, too. But he has an achilles heel like all the rest, except Trump. He needs support from donors. Trump really doesn’t. We need Trump for at least the first 4 years.

You still harping on this ..?? Get the facts.
I think Cruz is hoping in vain. If something happens I won’t vote for him. My son won’t vote Republican if it’s not Trump. Many of the people I know around here that support Trump would probably vote third party although there are several that like Carson also.
