Rand Paul: I’ll win black voters to GOP

MILFORD, N.H. — Sen. Rand Paul claimed he’d be the Republican with the best chance of picking up black voters in the 2016 presidential campaign — and suggested a major scandal will soon threaten Democrat Hillary Clinton’s likely candidacy — during a stop here one day after announcing he’s running for the White House.

“I’ve tried to expand the Republican Party by taking the message to places Republicans haven’t gone,” Paul said yesterday when asked by the Herald whether he is the Tea Party candidate in the race. “I’ve spent the last several years going to historically black colleges, going to large major cities, going to inner city schools at a dozen cities ... going to the Urban League, talking to NAACP leaders.”

Paul wouldn’t say what separates him from the only other declared GOP candidate — Texas Sen. Ted Cruz — but said his support goes far beyond just the Tea Party.

“What you’re seeing early on with polling is when you see me polled against Hillary Clinton in purple states and in some blue states, we do better than any other Republican. We believe that’s because we attract independent voters better than any other candidate,” he said.

No state, however, may be more important to the Paul campaign than New Hampshire, which was his first stop after announcing his candidacy in Louisville, Kentucky Tuesday.

“I do think we do need to win New Hampshire,” said Paul.

Paul walked in to a packed crowd at Milford Town Hall with the driving guitars of “Frankenstein” by The Edgar Winter Group blaring and chants of “President Paul!”(continued)

I'll give the turd credit for that. I Saw Edgar Winter perform “Frankenstein” when he backed up the Allman Brothers in Boston Garden many moons ago. There's a funky combo for ya.

what will Rand promise for the black vote. Free healthcare, free phones, free cars, free houses and so forth. Didn’t that be promised already by a black man and how did it work out? Sure the black man got the votes, but what happened to the country - more in debt and the black youth more unemployed

Many missed it but Rand already said he would repeal the laws that makeup the crimes
for blacks being in prison. I assume laws like Drugs. So dealers selling to kids will be set free.

Dementia runs In the family and hes the biggest nut that fell out of the family tree next to his father.

You and me both. I wish black voters who call themselves Christians, would stop and think of who they are voting for - and if it pleases the Lord. God can’t be happy with their block voting for those who want to kill the unborn and other social issues that go against His Word. Yet, most of these black Americans vote lock step for the DEMONcrats against the Bible. I don’t know what to say about this, or how God views this. Most voted for the color of someone’s skin in 08 and 12, not on principles, values or anything of importance.

Blacks are keen on seeing through phoneys who try to get jiggy with it ( a Will Smith slang term ).

What’s worse is when white people are not authentic and act outside their normal selves.

The only blacks who may warm up to Rand Paul’s repealing of the supposed laws that locks up blacks in prison more than white people are liberal thugs who have been indoctrinated by the Black Liberation Theology that was taught in and by Rev. Wright’s church.

Rand Paul acting like your from the hood isn’t going to cut it.

Forget the black vote, Rand. Hispanics will outnumber blacks 4:1 in near future. In just a few decades, Hispanics will be the majority grup, and whites will be the minority. Now what can you promise the Hispanics?

Besides the blacks, Rand is also courting college liberals and people under 30. Recall the standing O at Berkeley.

Try the NEW Rand Paul tm., now with more hubris!

Cleans and polishes with no scratching!

Rand Paul called McCain a “troll” on senate floor and had that put in senate record. Based on that alone I may have to consider placing Rand on my list for possible support, behind Walker, Jindal, Cruz.

OK, so long as he doesn’t pander and subvert the MLK ideal of a color blind society based on objective merit and not the color of skin.

He wants to get rid of the “disproportionality” among races in prison populations - meaning, in effect, blacks would get a sentencing break despite causing more crimes.

This is pandering of the worst kind - money is bad, but at least it’s only money. This kind of race-pandering puts criminals back on the street and threatens society directly - all to get a few votes.

I like what Paul is saying when he gets questioned about abortion, but this crap is a deal-breaker.

Dangerous and stupid. Not qualities that should be in a Presidential candidate.

I don't think he said that.

One of the BIGGEST MISTAKES made by Republican candidates in recent decades is “fighting for the black vote”. They need to simply GIVE IT UP and instead fight for the WHITE VOTE (hence my tag line). Yes, treat blacks with respect, but their leaders want handouts and other special treatment, tell them to take a hike.

I SPECIFICALLY REMEMBER Bush Senior fighting for all of the special interest votes during his one term. He signed a QUOTA BILL to get “the black votes”. He signed devastating “clean water” and “clean air” bills to get “the environmental vote” (Dan Quayle had to spend 2 years trying to find ways to minimize the damage from those bills). He single-handedly destroyed access to all of the good parking spaces in this country by signing the Americans with Disabilities Act, so as to get “the wheelchair vote”. It went on and on.

So what happened in 1992 - Bush found out that those people have always VOTED DEMOCRAT and were in no mood to change. To this day, I don’t remember a SINGLE DEMOCRAT thanking him for what he did to advance their causes.

Probably not. Certainly not in any significant numbers.

Paul must be using that stronger grade of marijuana that’s now being grown. He’s quite delusional.

I’ll disagree to a small extent. I frankly think the GOP has done a terrible job with Blacks and aside from some desultory measures, has largely written them off. I’ll give you a premier example of that: When or where there have been Black candidates, they may tout them superficially, but when it comes to providing resources, they’re not there with them. You can’t put up a candidate, give them no money or GOTV support and magically expect them to win.

I think there is a class of GOP elites (establishment) that simply aren’t comfortable with Blacks (or Conservatives, for that matter). I really don’t believe they’re interested in their vote AT ALL. If they were, they’d do something about it. But showing up for a couple of minutes at some Black function or church at election time, give a pandering or boilerplate speech and disappearing for 2 or 4 years is not going to get it done. The candidate knows it’s bullcrap and so does the audience (and then again, folks act shocked when the party can barely break out of the 5-10% range of support).

If the GOP truly wants the Black vote, it can’t be there infrequently, it has to actively engage them to counter the lies, the threats, and all the other nonsense that they’ve been hearing from the media, from their Democrat elected officials, family, friends, et al, 24/7. They often never hear an opposite viewpoint to the same leftist welfare state pablum of the past 50+ years.

If they don’t go into the community, build up grassroots support and activism, nothing will ever change. It can’t be a top-down approach, it has to be from the bottom up.

That’s how the Democrats got their foot in the door with this previously premier GOP constituency. They built on it and built on it until it paid off (in the North by the mid 1930s and in the South by the mid 1960s). The GOP just sat there with their thumb up their ass and allowed it to happen. Fight back ! Paul has a bit of the right idea, but it’s not really the right message. I think Ted Cruz may be closer to engaging in this sort of play that needs to be done.

Ok how much is this outreach going to cost now? Just add it to the 20 trillion in transfer payments since the 60s.
How about, look we are all Americans and if we don’t stop the poverty pumps and communists there will be nothing left of the country but burned cinders
