Paul Wins CPAC Straw Poll; Cruz Finishes Third
The Texas Tribune ^ | February 28, 2015 | Abby Livingston

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky won the Conservative Political Action Conference straw poll Saturday, his third victory in as many years.

This year he carried 26 percent of the vote. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz placed third, with 11.5 percent, while former Gov. Rick Perry came in eleventh, with 1.1 percent.

Both Paul and Cruz openly campaigned at the event. Cruz volunteers distributed custom-made buttons that said "Cruz Crew." Perry had a smaller get-out-the-vote operation at the conference.

The contest comes after three days of speeches from presidential contenders and noteworthy conservative activists. On Thursday, Cruz touted his battles within the GOP, while Perry attacked President Obama on foreign policy.

Cruz in third place behind Paul and Walker. That's OK for now. For the very, very libertarian CPAC. Our guy did just fine.

25.7 Sen. Rand Paul
21.4 Gov. Scott Walker
11.5 Sen. Ted Cruz
11.4 Dr. Ben Carson
8.3  Former Gov. Jeb Bush
4.3  Former Sen. Rick Santorum...

It’s the Paul schtick to win these things with huge crowds of nothing-else-to-do potheads.

True...Paul's supporters don't care about politics...They care about pot...

Meh. The poll result are definitely compromised. Between Paul and Bush, who arguably shouldn’t even be included in a Conservative poll, make said poll’s results skewed. They bused in/brought in liberals and libertarians.

A) Rand Paul, like his dad, is always going to win a straw poll. That’s the kind of followers they have. How many delegates do they get? (B) Scott Walker is both the “flavor of the month” and in the news all the time. As far as I’m concerned, Ted Cruz winning 3rd place is really 2nd place if you factor out the Paulestinians who want legal weed and all that. As far as I know, the only CPAC straw poll that predicted a presidential win was in 1980 and they’ve been doing this since 1973, when Ted Cruz was 2 years old.

Ben Carson is not going to be the nominee. Write that down. And Sweater Vest had his shot.

No he won’t; he’s just like his father and there aren’t enough idiots around, to ever get him elected president.

You mean this one?

http://www.breitbart.com/video/2015/02/28/levin-we-are-not-a-nation-of-immigrants-we-are-a-nation-of-citizens/

And then we got Giulianis......

Both of those speeches are EXACTLY how the Republican party should talk! If they did, they would never lose another election but they do not.

Sarah, Cruz, Lee, is brilliant for me but I would take Walker so long as he stays on course for conservative social issues, unlike the liberal who won this CPAC

Scott Walker came in 2d, showing that some conservatives value action over words. Too often the politician who talks conservative does not act conservative....Not that they all act leftist. Most of them just lack a spine or cajones when it comes to backing up their rhetoric.

You heard it here first: There will be no more black presidents or vice presidents for at least a generation. Mr. Obama has fouled that nest.
