Are Democrats Losing the Jews?
The Atlantic ^ | November 13, 2014 | Emma Green

Posted on 11/13/2014 12:24:29 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

In this year's midterms, Jews voted for Republican candidates more than they have in any election in the last decade.

First, some raw facts. In the 2006 midterm elections, 87 percent of Jews voted for Democratic candidates for the House of Representatives. Last week, in the 2014 midterm elections, 66 percent cast ballots for Democrats. That's a 21-point drop in eight years—and, it might seem, a major cause for celebration among the likes of the Republican Jewish Coalition and philo-Semitic political strategists everywhere.

But while Jewish support for Democrats has definitely declined over the last decade, the context is important. Poll numbers show how people are voting, but it's more difficult to figure out what they mean for the role of Jews in American politics.

And for such a small group, that's a big question.

Here are some of the other constituencies that make up 2 percent of the American electorate: customer-service representatives. People who participate in archery and bowhunting. AOL users. Residents of Indiana. So why all the attention?

"The importance of the Jews isn't their votes," said Benjamin Ginsberg, a professor of political science at Johns Hopkins University. "They account for a huge share of the activist base of the Democratic Party and account for much of the money available to Democratic candidates. If you are a Republican strategist, it seems fairly obviously that if you can shift Jewish support even a little bit away from the Democrats, it makes the Democratic Party less competitive."(continued)

Because they are socialists. They were the Jews Hitler wanted to get rid of.

Not exactly. There was no political litmus test for Jews in Nazi Germany to determine whether each person should be killed or not. Barry Goldwater, for example, had he been within the Nazis' reach would have been targeted for extermination because his father was Jewish.

The Jews love their liberal ideology more than they do this country. Hell, they don’t even care about their kinsmen in Israel!

You are painting with much too broad of a brush!

What is a philo-Semite? I don't think I've ever seen that in print before and I've got over 70 orbits around the sun under my belt.

I've certainly heard that term as an antonym of "anti-Semite." A philo-Semite is an individual (usually not Jewish himself) who wishes good things to happen to Jews and the Jewish people as a whole.

Along with that goes an elitism that has a tribal component. It's how you can objectify those around you as inferior and stupid.

i think there are two issues...

1. D party socialism/Marxist policies (has been tending that way since the First Great Depression, the one before Obama)

and

2. the recent “co-opted or subverted” D party IslamoNazism or Selling out of America and American/Judeo-Christian/Western interests. Weakening America, our values, our culture, our borders, our allies, our interests, and our faith commitments ... by very comprehensive and deliberate design.

anyway, nobody should vote D at least until the D party’s control apparatus is, somehow, recaptured by Americans who have not sold out for a few IslamoNazi pieces of silver

“unless Netanyahu was replaced with Abbas or Haniyeh”

THAT they think would be wonderful! Never will ‘get it.’

I’d take Bibi in a NY minute And happily give them Obie to reign in their little Left Utopia.

I fervently pray that American Jews are losing the Democrats, especially their hold on their psyche, their underlying sinister racism, and their cavalier presumptuous belief that American Jews are somehow their property, along with all the other voting blocks. The Republicans, for their faults, do not have these. They know that voters’ loyalty must be earned, not passed down through the generations like a deed on human chattels.

While Jewish voters remain overwhelmingly liberal and left-wing, the Left utterly hates and detests Israel, has nothing but contempt for it. Meanwhile, the GOP and religious conservatives are much more pro-Israel.

From this Jewish Republican viewpoint, I'd say that American Jews are really tending more toward the right as Obama turns increasingly against Israel and as his domestic policies prove detrimental to the lives of Jews and others. It's not such an "overwhelming" advantage for the left compared to what it once was.

Remember that the figures quoted in the posted article were done by exit polling and relate only to House candidates in the one particular district the interviewee happens to vote. Remember also that the polling is done by left-leaning groups with biases in that direction. I for one can't understand how you can get a reasonable random sample of exit poll interviewees that can represent the American Jewish community as a whole, given the very few election precincts that the pollsters can be working as compared to the whole.

Then, too, disproportionately more of these Jewish voters would be in House districts that are overwhelmingly 'rat, so much so that the GOP candidate for House, who may not even exist, would not put up much of an effort and would not be sufficiently recognized and known. Even furthermore, these pollsters, because of their biases and because of social and language barriers, would likely be interviewing disproportionately fewer Republican Jewish voters, who would represent higher percentages among the subgroups of Orthodox and newer Russian immigrant Jews and their families. All these factors would tend to increase the reported Democrat % of the Jewish vote for House candidates so as to make it a few points higher than the real number.

Garbage in, garbage out, at least to some extent.

No. Just let them give them the chance to pull the lever for Hillary and they will break their necks to do it. She is their ideal candidate.

J Street released a poll that stated that Jews agree more with Obama than Netanyahu, but it is J Street that did the poll; therefore, I don’t believe it or anything else they say.

A Jewish Republican friend told me that he thinks that having been an enslaved and oppressed people once themselves, Jews are inclined to try to do as much as possible for other enslaved and oppressed groups, things that perhaps the enslaved and oppressed CAN’T do for themselves. While I can appreciate and laud that sentiment, I still don’t understand how American Jews can continue to believe that the Dumbcrap party is the party that supports the enslaved and oppressed.

Furthermore, I would posit that all of us have some slavery in our history. War is a fact of the human condition, and peoples have become prisoners of war/slaves several times in our shared history.

The ones I know have said they will never vote for a Republican.

Those are the ones that I think will just sit out the election.

“Efforts to shift the Jewish vote over to Israel haven’t really worked,” she said. “The more assimilated Jews are, the less important Israel is to them.”

As a Christian, I am Pro-Israel. But, the American Jews are one of the most liberal ethnic groups in America. LIBERAL, LIBERAL, LIBERAL!!! And the young American Jews don’t give a rip about the homeland. They would vote for a Muslim for President if he ran as a Democrat. Oh..... wait.... I think they already did that in 2008 and 2012.

Yes, you can believe a J Street poll about as much as you can believe an article by Prof. Jonathan Gruber on Obamacare c. 2009-2010 or an oration by Ms. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz on anything.

BTW, in case you didn't notice, the article that began this thread came from a left-leaning publication, The Atlantic. It doesn't specifically say which poll they got their data on Jewish voting from. However, from the title "Are the Democrats Losing the Jews?", it would appear that they are at least a bit alarmed at the trend.
