On Sunday, as Hurricane Harvey began to crush parts of Texas, Joel Osteen, pastor of Houston megachurch Lakewood, tweeted that his church was inaccessible due to severe flooding, and then let his Twitter followers know that they could go to an area shelter should they need help.
Followers who were near the church then took video and photos of the severe flooding to show that the roads and entrance to the church were actually accessible. Those on Twitter then began bashing the pastor, who quickly blocked those on social media who called him out.
Lakewood church staff began posting photos of their own, showing that parts of the parking area were, in fact, flooded. Shortly after that, the narrative started to shift. The news became that the church had always been willing to help, but church officials were more comfortable with the facility being used as a supply station rather than a shelter. They would, however, allow the church to become an emergency shelter if all of the area shelters were filled.

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Man, that is a real racist website.
The only motive they have is hating Trump, White people and Christians who they undoubtedly lump in with Catholics too.
Just saying
As a group of religious-minded thinkers, we should be more concerned about what he’s teaching a large group of Christians each day.
For starters, given most of his services’ attendees are Houstonians, how does he explain this bad fortune? I mean, he says belief in God and Osteen’s positive “message” will bring you wealth and friends... Not trying to be snarky... Curiousity here.... Someone needs to ask him...
Osteen is wrong.
He should have insisted that the church be open and be prepared to help those in need.
As any of the churches I go to or have gone to would.
If your pastor appears on Larry King live and won’t say that Jesus is the only way to God, you’re in the wrong church.
How ironic that the hurricane should hit the heart of prosperity gospel preaching so hard.
They must not be doing something right.
Maybe they need more faith....

S/ Fall on ground laughing warning!!!
Yes, FEMA learned from Katrina and was on the scene this time 2 days BEFORE the storm hit. And thank heavens, Brownie is not in charge lol.
Clearly, its a combination of those who dont like Osteen, and those who dont like religion at all.
Amen........As a side note, he was interviewed today on Fox and explained exactly what the fake controversy was all about.........
Hurricanes have been hitting Florida, AL, MS, LA & TX coasts for thousands and thousands of years. And earthquakes have been present in CA for thousands and thousands of years. And tornadoes have been ravaging the mid-west for thousands and thousands of years. And Mississippi river has been flooding all states it passes through for thousands and thousands of years.
May be that is why North America was the last continent to be civilized. Asia and Europe had flourishing civilizations 5-10 thousand years back. Columbus did not arrive until the 15th century. Native American population was minuscule in comparison to Asia, where they came from. They were too busy escaping natural disasters. North America suffers the most wrath of nature. It has nothing to do with any religious reasons. It is the natural phenomena due to topography of this continent, with 2 huge oceans on either side.
But they are not frequent enough or severe enough to explain the complete lack of technological development on the whole continent.
Agree, Leni. (Maybe not the evangelist part.....Osteen is more of a prosperity preacher, IMO). Regardless, 5 days into the storm, his church needed to be prepared, to have supplies, security, staff etc, before they took in survivors. If they hadn’t, not only would it have been irresponsible, but set them up for all sorts of possible accusations and legal ramifications. The liberal media is fabricating this story out of thin air.
I totally agree. A shelter needs to have more than just a roof for any length of time. There was an actual real live shelter down the road that is prepared to provide some of the basics. He has said as much. I’m no Osteen fan but he gets a pass this week.
Civilizations flourished when agriculture took hold. And weather was not too cold. Native Americans were trying to survive the brutal winters in north. And hurricanes, floods & earthquakes elsewhere. It was tough.
The reason it doesn’t add up for the author is necause the don’t nothin’ ‘ bout emergency management.
Public schools are designed to be emergency centers, churches are not.
That leaves the east coast. Many tribes flourished. Very quiet area.
The schools are known to a rather detailed degree. We know how many people they can host for a period of time. Based on this number we also know:
how much food will be consumed.
how much clothing will be needed,
how many volunteers will be needed,
how much sanitation supplies are needed and what kind.
how many meals their kitchens can produce running 24/7
they know when each truck has to arrive and unload.
The churches roles are:
Sending volunteers to man the emergency centers,
Sending goods to the emergency centers.
Sending money to orgs that will use it to take care of people.
The churches do a spectacular job. We had three families go in together and a large amount of goods were delivered to our church. The goods are most likely on their way to an emergency center or being given out to local families who need help.
So Joel gets a pass on this. His people are volunteering for the centers, probably running boats, and generally doing a bang up job.
Emergency response is a science. We use satellite photos, a large network of human intel and many, many volunteers,
It's not what most people think it is. More like a military operation. A very large one.
I’m using that.
I’ve been up for several days fighting this storm in various ways. We don’t need Joel Osteen or Sylvester Turner or any other SOB to help those around us or ourselves. With that said we will take all the help we can get from anyone we can get it from. Screw anyone that bashes anyone who throws in to help in any way they can anytime they can. Double screw any moron who lays blame on any human for this event of nature.
Say what you want about Osteen but he has done good deeds in the past. Kudos to Jim Macinvale, JJ Watt and the other well known folks that are helping people. Rich guys that care are welcomed but the real heros are the good old boys who risked their lives and jacked up trucks or their boats to help people they never met and likely will never see again. God bless the rednecks, the black dudes, the Hispanic guys, the mellinials from mid town and the list goes on. Churches, veterans, the Marines I met today, the cops, the fire fighters and some nutcase in a Unimog who thought he could go anywhere no matter how deep the water was to pull people out.
FYI, Osteen’s place was affected by the water. Not that I give a $hit.
Either get in the mud and help or shut up!
I’m going to pass out now.
