Warsaw, Poland, Jan 18, 2017 / 06:08 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Poland's government has adopted multiple resolutions establishing 2017 as a Jubilee Year for the country, celebrating the 300th anniversary of the first canonical coronation of the image of Our Lady of Czestochowa.
Polish Sejm, convinced of the special importance of Marian devotion for our homeland not only in the religious aspect, but also social, cultural and patriotic establishes 2017 the Year of the 300th anniversary of the Coronation of the image of Our Lady of Czestochowa, the resolution of the lower house of parliament stated.
More than 94 percent of Polands population being Catholic, the image of Our Lady of Czestochowa, also called the Black Madonna, has a significant meaning for Poles and is highly venerated throughout Europe.
In a resolution adopted Dec. 15, 2016, the Polish parliament called the image of the Mother of God at Jasna Góra one of the most important religious and material national treasures.
Although the image was crowned Queen and Protector of Poland by King John II Casimir in 1652, its first canonical coronation was by Clement XI on Sept. 8, 1717, which is the date of the anniversary. Additional coronations of the image were also issued by St. Pius X in 1910 and St. John Paul II in 2005.
A canonical coronation is a pious institutional act, wherein the Pope, through a bull, designates a crown or stellar halo be added to a Marian image under a specific devotional title in a particular area or diocese. The crowning of Our Lady of Czestochowa was the first such coronation to take place outside Rome.

God Bless the Polish people.
Oh that Mary.
The Catholic worship of Mary continues unabated.
“Our tainted nature’s solitary boast”

Catholics honor Mary, not worship her. Either state correctly what Catholics believe, or kindly keep your ignorance to yourself. Thank you.
Thank you for fraternally correcting the previous poster.
And who said xenophobia is a bad thing. I’m glad they hold on strongly to their faith.
Now bowing to Islam there, or multi-culti BS
The mother of the King is always the Queen Mother, even in the Bible.
That concept of Mary is what elevated women in Christian cultures—unlike islam where polygamy and misogyny and homosexualism (sexism) and pederasty, incest and pedophilia is “normal”. And like all the non-Christians in Africa and Asia cultures.
That was an intentional Catholic ploy to promote motherhood and the Natural family of one man/one woman (God’s Design) which is fundamental to ALL cultures and flourishing and emotionally healthy (non-warped) children so they become rational, virtuous adults. With virtue (only) there can be freedom and free will/individualism.
Don’t knock the wisdom of Catholic Theology, and the total importance of a mother in the heath and humanity of mankind. Children are incapable of being human without a loving mother in the first 7 years of life.
(I will admit, the Catholics have overdone it on Mary and should scale it back a bit.....but the perversion push in the Catholic Church is much worse than the distortion of Mary’s importance, now. That is the least of their heresies.
nothing heretical about honoring Mary
Bravo, Poland. United States has the Immaculate as patroness. I pray to her that she leads me to her Son daily. She is always ready to listen and help and loves working with the most skeptical.
There is ZERO evidence for thiIs in the Ne or Old Testamemt.
The idols of Mary which Catholics kneel before and offer prayers to say otherwise.
“The Catholic worship of Mary continues unabated.”
It was an act of Parliament. There was no worship by anyone involved in any way.
“There is ZERO evidence for thiIs in the Ne or Old Testamemt.”
You’re wrong as usual.
