John Henry Newman said it best: “To be deep in history is to cease to be Protestant.” History paints an overwhelming picture of St. Peter’s apostolic ministry in Rome and this is confirmed by a multitude of different sources within the Early Church. Catholic Encyclopedia states, “In opposition to this distinct and unanimous testimony of early Christendom, some few Protestant historians have attempted in recent times to set aside the residence and death of Peter at Rome as legendary. These attempts have resulted in complete failure.” Protestantism as a whole seeks to divorce Christianity from history by rending Gospel message out of its historical context as captured by our Early Church Fathers. One such target of these heresies is to devalue St. Peter and to twist the authority of Rome into a historical mishap within Christianity. To wit, the belief has as its end the ultimate end of all Catholic and Protestant dialogue – who has authority in Christianity?
Why is it important to defend the tradition of St. Peter and Rome? The importance of establishing St. Peter’s ministry in Rome may be boiled down to authority and more specifically the historic existence and continuance of the Office of Vicar held by St. Peter. To understand why St. Peter was important and what authority was given to him by Christ SPL has composed two lists – 10 Biblical Reasons Christ Founded the Papacy and 13 Reasons St. Peter Was the Prince of the Apostles.

Hundreds of millions of former Catholics just don’t see it in the Bible and consequently don’t believe it.

So learning from History, The RC Church should have clergy who are married and thus avoid some unsavory scandals. Peter was married.
Goodness. The Roman Catholic Church has only itself to blame for it’s utterly repulsive history of abject failure to lead with servant leadership.

Want to hear some great teaching about this? If you consider yourself a Christian that loves Christ and wants to prepare for what’s coming please give these a spin. I’ve had a lot of teaching but never have I heard anything like this. Even if you only listen to 2o min. of the very first one. I think you will get the idea of what he’s saying and will realize it’s importance.

Regardless, it would be tremendously helpful if at least one of their recent apologist authors could pen a piece that doesn’t integrally require slamming other Christians. They can make their points without having to be gratuitously insulting to those they are trying to convince their beliefs are right.

Priests don’t have to be married.
We do have some priests who are married. One of my best friends is a married priest. He is a huge proponent of celibate clergy because of his own experience. He used to be a Lutheran pastor.
No, unfortunately they cannot and never will. As long as they assert that “there is no salvation outside the church (as defined by themselves)” they simply must attack, denigrate, and deny the validity of any other view. For them the determining factor is grounded in the dogma that every knee must bow to Peter as the sole authoritative representative of Christ on earth. Without him, the dogma goes, there is essentially no access to Christ.

Well, that’s how it will go if you actually ignore the article. The article quotes scripture and ancient sources. How can anyone not learn something from that?
Insults to other Christians pretty much prevents anyone agreeing with them.

Most definitely not. I would worry about his safety. I have seen Catholics threatened with bodily harm by anti-Catholics. I too was threatened by an anti-Catholic who promised me he was going to come to my door with a shotgun. I firmly believe anti-Catholicism is a mental illness grounded in hatred and bigotry. I give no meaningful personal information to anyone online about my name, my family, location, etc.

Wait. Are you upset about people not “learning” or about people not “agreeing” with one another? People can learn and still not agree. People can agree and not learn. I can learn from someone even if they insult me - I learn all the time here at FR after all.
