On his blog the Archbishop of Washington talks about the criticisms directed at Francis and recalls the opposition toward his predecessors: They disagree with the Pope because he does not agree with them and therefore follow their position
One of the things I have learned though over all of these years since those early naïve days in 1961 is that on closer examination there is a common thread that runs through all of these dissenters. They disagree with the Pope because he does not agree with them and therefore follow their position. This is the conclusion the Archbishop of Washington Cardinal Donald Wuerl arrives at in an article published on his blog, titled: The Pope, Touchstone of Faith and Unity
The US cardinals comment focuses on those within the Church who express their opposition to the Pope. Wuerl does not name names but says he has received an interview and an article by brother bishops by email. An interview Cardinal Leo Raymond Burke gave to a French television programme sparked a debate in recent days. In the interview, the cardinal stated that he intended to stand up to the Pope if he decided to open up to the possibility of granting remarried divorcees access to the sacraments.
Wuerl says he was present at last Sundays Angelus which was attended by thousands of people and recalled that this enormously popular and revered successor to Peter spoke about the tenderness of Jesus, his loving compassion and at the same time our need to be caring and compassionate to our fellow human beings. The Holy Father clearly is admired not only by the crowds in Saint Peters Square but by people around the world. But, the cardinal notes, apparently that admiration is not shared by all.

That is some deep thought right there
Captain Obvious was here ...
Thanx Flip ... I was about to post a simular expression
Send the bishop to Georgetown.
Same lack of intellect there.
Perfect fit.
Oops, that’s Cardinal, not bishop.
Even Saint Paul the Apostle was willing to confront the first Pope. Respectfully confronting the Pope is OK - going against Church teaching is not OK.
Pope Francis has empowered the stupid in the Church. He himself actually boasts about his lack of learning and disinterest in intellectual matters, which, according to him, would only interfere with his world renowned “heart.”
Wuerl the Girl. Itching for another promotion.
**similar**??
“Even Saint Paul the Apostle was willing to confront the first Pope. Respectfully confronting the Pope is OK - going against Church teaching is not OK.”
Amen!
To this day, every time I write the word ... my mind says;
foto .... graffy
wuerl is gutless. rolls over and administers communion to pelosi the abortion backer and all the sodomites in dc.
he needs to go.
I gave up protestantism because of the fifth Sola - sola ego ipse. The only REALLY validating Bible interpretation is one I agree with (under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, of course), therefore, the guarantor of Truth is - I agree with me.
If all of the scriptural interpretations that appear in, for example, a small Christian school with 100 students and their families are sub spiritu sancti, then the Holy Spirit is a jokester or a nut, both of which are implausible.
Francis has not yet adopted the Eastern Orthodox view of communion for the divorced and remarried, but it seems quite likely that he wants to do so, and, if he does, the dissenters of the Burke school will have an unpalatable choice to make.
Interesting times.
His article itself is completely brainless.
Donna Wuerl should have been excommunicated years ago for giving communion to pro-abortion politicians. And there’s a reason he’s called Donna. He’s a disgrace to the Catholic Church and not fit to be mentioned in the same sentence with Cardinal Burke.
Think the Cardinal betrays his own ignorances with such a statement. Some people disagree with things Popes say because they believe, rightly or wrongly, what the Popes say disagrees with Magisterial teaching.
In todays world there are many who truly know the authentic teachings of the Church better than do many Cardinals.
His friends call him Donna Wuerl.
How is it “quasi Protestant”? The Pope is the guardian of the Faith, it isn’t his to change at a whim. He’s the Protestant, because he’s going against the constant teaching of all of his predecessors.
