Pope Francis Discusses The End Of The World

By Athena Yenko

November 28, 2014 Pope Francis addresses humans' ancient question on when and how the end of the world will take place. On Nov 27, he addressed pilgrims during his weekly General Audience in St Peter's Square.

Pope Francis said people had been spontaneously thinking about how the final passage will take place and what will happen to humanity and to the world that surrounds humans. He said these questions exist and, in fact, even the disciples of Jesus had the very same questions. He added these questions are ancient human questions.

Pope doesn’t agree with the first ‘pope’. 2 Peter 3:10-11

Is he supposed to? He can have his own thoughts, right?

LoL, discussing an article of faith exposited in the Scripture by St Peter no less. Yeah, you can go with Francis. I’ll stick with Peter, his inspiration by the Holy Spirit is irrefutable.

Yeah, you can go with Francis.

I'm not a Catholic but I think it's so interesting that so many Freepers seem to dislike him. I only know about him from the news. He seems like a nice old man, that's all.

Since you aren’t Catholic, don’t you think the head of Catholics should agree with an Apostle on the end of time?

No contradiction with the Apostles. Catholics have Petrine authority, what do non-Catholics have? Sharpton? Osteen” David Koresh? Billy Graham? TD Jakes?

A cluster of heresies.

End times are discussed many times in scripture. The Roman Catholic Church has been reading from Revelation 21 and 22 the past few days. I am sure his comments sync with the end times as discussed in those books/chapters.

OK, my enthusiasm for Pope Francis is over. He hasn’t read the Bible.

No contradiction with the Apostles.

Lol, doesn't agree with the first 'pope'. Nice try.

I doubt it, he doesn't agree with Peter.

I try not to worry about it. God has his own schedule, and hasn’t shared it with me. Until then, I go on fearing Him so that I may fear all else less.

“Pope doesn’t agree with the first ‘pope’. 2 Peter 3:10-11”

Can you show us all of your evidence that Pope Francis disagrees with Peter in 2 Peter 3:10-11? Oh, and please, I’m not looking for your interpretation. I just want whatever EVIDENCE you have that Pope Francis disagrees with Peter. So, in other words, I’m looking for more Witness #10 and less Dorian Johnson, okay?

As a Catholic, Pope Francis likely interprets 2 Peter 3:10-11 metaphorically or allegorically, inasmuch as Catholicism rejects fundamentalism/consistent Biblical literalism.

I didn’t see where he disagreed with Peter. He merely stated what we all know - nobody knows exactly how it will transpire - even Jesus wasn’t allowed to call up that knowledge while He walked among us.

I was under the assumption the pope was infallible? Was this doctrine dropped?

St Peter: 2Peter 3:10=11:

10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. 11Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,…

Pope Francis: "However, God promised a new dwelling place and a new Earth is being prepared; in this new world, justice will abide and God shall answer and quenched humans' longing for peace - .....With this, Pope Francis said, the end of the world is not actually a destruction of the world"

“With this, Pope Francis said, the end of the world is not actually a destruction of the world”

No, that’s not what he said. And Revelation 21:1-4 says:

1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 I also saw the holy city, a new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, God’s dwelling is with the human race. He will dwell with them and they will be his people and God himself will always be with them [as their God]. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, [for] the old order has passed away.”

Pope Francis made it clear the world will end:

“He said even the Church knows no answer to these questions. Church leaders do not know the time for the “consummation of the earth and of humanity.” Yes, the Earth is already deformed by sin and this world shall pass away.”

You cannot have the “consummation of the earth” or have the “world...pass away” without it being destroyed.

The article’s author then stupidly says:

“With this, Pope Francis said, the end of the world is not actually a destruction of the world but rather a transformation to a new truthful and beautiful universe. “It is not an annihilation of the universe and all that surrounds us, rather it brings everything to its fullness of being, truth and beauty,” the Pope told the pilgrims.”

It should be that the “end of the world is not [just] a destruction of the world but rather a transformation to a new truthful and beautiful universe.” And that’s exactly what Revelation 21 must mean.

If you read the pope’s actual statement - where he cites 2 Peter 3 - it’s pretty clear:

3. At the same time, the Holy Scripture teaches us that the fulfillment of this wonderful design also affects everything around us, and that came out of the thought and the heart of God. The Apostle Paul explicitly says as much, when he says that “ that creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption and share in the glorious freedom of the children of God” (Rom 8:21). Other texts use the image of the “new heaven” and the “new earth” (cf. 2 Pet 3:13; Rev 21,1), in the sense that the whole universe will be renovated and will be liberated once and for all from all traces of evil and death itself. What lies ahead, as the fulfillment of a transformation that is actually already in place since the death and resurrection of Christ, is therefore a new creation. It is not an annihilation of the universe and all that surrounds us, rather it brings everything to its fullness of being, truth and beauty. This is the plan that God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, always want to accomplish and is realizing.

No, that’s not what he said

Read the article, it is a quote from there.

Dude, you need to be on the Pope's staff. Your argument isn't with me, it is with the reportage.
