Four sisters recount lives haunted by [Catholic] clergy abuse

Nancy Meyers remembers the fear in the priest's eyes when he spotted her.

It was a Sunday morning in 1990, and Nancy, then 42, and her sister Kate had just arrived at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lino Lakes to confront the man Nancy says had sexually abused her as a child.

The Rev. Kenneth LaVan was greeting parishioners at the back of the church.

"Can I help you?" a parishioner asked.

"Oh, no," Kate Meyers said. "We're here to see Father LaVan, it's just a quick thing. He knows us. We're old friends."

When the sisters got to the front of the line, the priest looked nervous.

One more scum rapist in a clerical collar being protected by the Catholics who love their church more than they love God.

OK, MPR, fair enough.

Now, let’s hear about Muzzies, eh?

We can start with their child-boinking “prophet”.

Is this your insult of the day? Let me know about your perfect church, with its perfect clergy, and its perfect members.

In the meantime, don’t paint with a broad brush, it is unbecoming, uncharitable, and is a false witness.

Look, I don’t offer any cover at all to any authority figure who abuses that authority to satisfy his sexual urges.

But, did the girls have acid thrown on their faces?
Were they buried alive?
Were they burned alive?
Were they dissected alive?
Were they stoned to death?
Were they shot in the head?
Were their genitalia disfigured?
Were their heads slowly sawn off with a rusty kitchen knife?
Were they forced to “marry” a polygamist five times their age and raped brutally and repeatedly before they even reached puberty?

Let’s deal with the real savages among us first, shall we?

The Donovan brothers knew how to deal with priests like these.

Said with true Christian charity from a member of the Church of What’s Happening Now. :-)

No, deal with the lives ruined by the clergy. Instead of covering it up, it should have been first page news. Each and every one should be in jail if true. People helping to cover it up, shoud be in jail, too. I do not understand why stuff like this is covered up and clergy sent to other places to ruin more lives.

Completely irrelevant to this story.

Well, it is true. Clergy are sent to other places to ruin more lives. They should be in jail.

Really? Everything has to be about Islam now?

You guys sound like the stoners in Ocean Beach when even during the first week after 9/11, they kept responding with “oh yeah. what about the Crusades man...?”.

” I do not understand why stuff like this is covered up and clergy sent to other places to ruin more lives.”

That hasn’t really happened in over a decade. Catch up with the times.

It doesn’t matter, it’s all they have so they keep bringing it up.

And you don’t with your repeated posts about Catholics who vote for Democrats?

Sorry, but I left the Catholic church long ago...or more correctly, it left me.

I’ll not defend those priests at all.

However, I eagerly await when NPR will start talking about the loathsome repulsive 7th century abortion called Islam.

No. Happily, the answer to all your questions is a negative. All the authority figure, the priest LaVan, in this story did was violate a minor parishioner's trust and her body. It's a whole other ball of wax and so much less offensive than the things you listed. Thanks for your perspective.

> Completely irrelevant to this story.

Really.

All of those things I mentioned were done on the orders of an islamic cleric of one kind or another.

Virtually no reportage by the GOONS (Government Owned and Operated News Services).

Yes those Catholic clerics should be punished for their abuses.
No they should not be shuffled off to another parish to commit the same crimes.

But let’s have alittle balance in the reportage.

If you wanna report on clerical abuses of children, let’s not omit the muzzloids, ok?

What I see here is somebody posts that a Baptist preacher commits some sexual crime, and the Catholic members point out that’s what happens when you leave the “real” church.

Then somebody posts that a Catholic priest commits some sexual crime, and the Protestants jump all over it spouting the dangers of unmarried clergy, yada, yada, yada.

Meanwhile, the most horrific crimes against children by islamic clerics is ignored or not even reported.

So, Catholics, Protestants, have fun bashing eachother while the muzzloids take over and do to you and your children what they’ve been doing for about 1400 years now.

Insult? The truth is never an insult. The Catholic clergy are the modern day Pharisees of whom Jesus said that prostitutes and tax collectors would enter the Kingdom of Heaven before.

That’s a stupid statement. Suggesting that Catholics are not as bad as Muslims is a pretty nasty indictment of Catholics.
