The top legislative body of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) voted Thursday to redefine Christian marriage in the church constitution as the union of "two people" instead of only "a man and a woman."
The amendment requires approval from a majority of the 172 regional presbyteries, which will vote on the change over the next year. But in a separate vote that will take effect immediately, the Presbyterian General Assembly allowed ministers to preside at gay weddings in states where gay marriage is legal. Nineteen states and the District of Columbia recognize same-sex marriage.
Alex McNeill, executive director of More Light Presbyterians, a gay advocacy group, said the decisions Thursday were "an answer to many prayers" of same-sex couples.
The conservative Presbyterian Lay Committee decried the votes in Detroit as an "abomination."
"The General Assembly has committed an express repudiation of the Bible, the mutually agreed upon Confessions of the PCUSA, thousands of years of faithfulness to God's clear commands and the denominational ordination vows of each concurring commissioner," the committee said in a statement.

What is happening with the other Presbyterian branches? (sects)?
They tend to be conservative
Your having posted this saved me the trouble.
Ghastly. Hope the members repudiate it.
My 82 year old mom is having problems with her UMC church. They are getting a female pastor and my mom is not okay with that, but she’s old and doesn’t want to change churches.
I have seen some Methodist Churches vacated in our area because they refused to give their money to their national organization because of where (i.e. world council of churches) the money was going and didn’t believe in the liberal bent. They also were forced to have pastors who were sent to them. Even though they built their building with their own money, owned the land, made repairs, etc., they didn’t own it. One church in the country was told by an official of the denomination that he would rather see it as a coon hunters club rather than have the congregation stay in it.
Where are these Presbyterians putting God in all of this? What a travesty. We are seeing a separating of the wheat and the chaff, the sheep and the goats right before our very eyes and our precious children growing up won’t know the difference!
In those famous words of Hitlery “at this point what difference does it make” I doubt there are many Bible believing heterosexuals left in the Presbyterian Church.
And if there are any WHY!
And therein lies the problem: homos and their ilk invading mainline churches to turn them into something God does not want. Satan knows what he's doing....
One of the former members of my youth group is now a pastor. I am proud of this. But I am disappointed to see him go mushy on the marriage integrity question. He doesn't want to fight the culture war. What he fails to grasp is that if the culture war is truly lost, his flock will dissipate.
Giving in on same sex marriage is not going to put butts back in the pews. The demands for the church to excuse sins will only increase.
May I suggest the quick read copy (Kindle format) of A Prophetic Manifesto. . . perhaps you might forward a copy to the young pastor. . . only $2.99. I have sent several out to pastors, friends and relatives via Amazon.
This is going to really annoy my mother. Maybe she’ll decide that if they don’t do any homosexual weddings at her own church, she can stick with it as long as she’s still ambulatory.
As a United Methodist military chaplain and as a UMC pastor, I’ve fought this for years. You know the groups — Good News, Confessing, IRD, etc. I’m an Asbury Seminary grad, and a mega-church pastor acquaintance, also an Asbury grad in the same time frame as me is inclined to see this as ‘we can just agree to disagree’. (Not just in our conversation but in our written rules.)
So, what I would consider a former evangelical UMC pastor of a mega-church has sought a broad highway of comfortable Christianity.
I truly hope the denomination holds the line in 2016 due to the African churches and then splits. I wonder which side this former evangelical will go with?
Scripture describes Satan as masquerading as an “angel of light.” So for those who have eyes to see, the hand of Satan is pretty evident in the mainline denominations.
Romans 1:27
And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.
1 Corinthians 6-10
Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Dont fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,
This will be the end of the PCUSA except on the west and east coasts.
Like the Methodists, they also have liberal congregations in the Great Lakes and Midwest
But I pretty much agree with you
Should it now be called the Lesbyterian Church instead?
Thank you, Lord, for the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic church - the Roman Catholic Church.
Matthew 16:
[15] Jesus saith to them: But whom do you say that I am?
[16] Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God. [17] And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. [18] And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [19] And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.
Do these guys have big African factions like some of these other groups that have went awry in the west?
