“We Are Church” Movement Leader Is “Shocked” by Her Excommunication

Martha Holzer, a senior leader in the dissident Catholic group We Are Church, is “shocked” that Pope Francis has taken the extraordinary step of excommunicating her and her husband Gert.

Pope Francis took this action after the pair “simulated the Mass”–that is, they regularly took part in “private Eucharistic celebrations” at her home with no priest present. The Church considers the simulation of the Mass a delictum gravius, or “grave delict”.

We Are Church, which has members in more than 20 countries, is notorious for its disregard for the priesthood–insisting, as they do, that all participate in the “priesthood of all believers” and that both men and women should be ordained to the ministerial priesthood.

Here in the United States, We Are Church’s member organizations are a Who’s Who of dissident groups including the American Catholic Council, Call To Action, Catholics Speak Out, Corpus, DignityUSA, FutureChurch, PaxChristi/Maine, the Women’s Ordination Conference, and others.

Bad! #79! Three Hail Mary’s, and promise never to do it again.

“My initial response simply quoted your own answer to your own question and even courteously thanked you.”

If that is your idea of courtesy, then I think I am not the one trolling.

It happens that we’ve just read the relevant paragraphs of the CCC, as part of our daily exercise in, “If you don’t know the Faith, it won’t be my fault!”

The priesthood of the Faithful, like the ministerial priesthood, is for the offering of sacrifice. When we offer our lives to God, when we present our bodies as living sacrifices, when we associate our sufferings with the Passion of Christ, we are participating with Christ the eternal High Priest.

The function of teaching is associated with the prophetic ministry of Christ.

Soooooo, He thinks more of you than the 50 million who died in WWII? Oy.

Since Christ himself was murdered on the cross, you should know that this flesh life is very temporary and not too significant, unless you don't believe in God or his savior, Jesus. Blaming Him will get you nowhere.

I see you “don’t necessarily accep”t, ok so you are almost a sedevacantist, is that more accurate. Well on 2nd thought, Maybe that is not a good title, maybe you are implying your are SSPX????? Would that be more accurate?

My family is very fortunate to have a diocese Latin Mass (extraordinary form) celebrated nearby a few times a month. None of us has ever been to an SSPX chapel; I don’t even own a suit lol.

One doesn’t have to sede or SSPX to doubt the validity of the current papacy. Although you don’t see much on this forum, there are many Catholics who are questioning things.

Agree. It’s such a slow process these days, and with plenty of warning.

Ok, well, then you haven’t turned into a defacto protestant. Nothing wrong with the Extraordinary form, glad you have a parish that celebrates it.

unless you don't believe in God
I say again - the only God I can believe in is one who is not interactive.
If he is, why did he allow all the death and suffering in just the 20th Century alone?

Satan would be herding God around if God had to spend the work to correct all the wrongs humans do via satanic urgings. To be re active is to diminish God. Would you desire a personal relationship with someone who was dominated by the deeds of an other?

Oh, I do not believe that God is “re-active.” I consider Him proactive, and sovereign over all things, working all things according to His own good purpose.

Why didn’t you answer my questions? Or are you just content to remain an atheist too afraid to commit?

This has been on Our Lady's Warriors dissent list for a long time.

We are Church

Hatched from Call to Action, they are a petition group pushing for radical changes in church teaching through political pressure ("referendums," lobbying and the like).

?? That needs more information. Are you self-communicating with consecrated hosts? Are you home-bound and someone from a Catholic Church brings you Communion?

Otherwise — you are doing YOPIOS — my opinion only.
