Spain's new cardinal says homosexuality a 'defect'

Pope Francis' newly chosen Spanish cardinal, 84-year-old Fernando Sebastian Aguilar, has described homosexuality as a "defect" that can be corrected with treatment, sparking condemnation from gay rights groups.

"A lot of people complain and don't tolerate it but with all respect I say that homosexuality is a defective way of manifesting sexuality, because that has a structure and a purpose, which is procreation," Sebastian told Malaga newspaper Sur.

The interview was published Sunday, a week after the Spaniard was named as one of 19 new cardinals chosen by the pope, to be officially appointed February 22.

"We have a lot of defects in our bodies. I have high blood pressure. Am I going to get angry because they tell me that? It is a defect I have that I have to correct as far as I can," said Sebastian, who is the archbishop emeritus of the northern city of Pamplona.

"Pointing out a defect to a homosexual is not an offence, it is a help because many cases of homosexuality can be recovered and normalised with adequate treatment. It is not an offence, it is esteem. When someone has a defect, the good friend is the one who tells him."

Note that he is talking about the condition here, not the sinful acts that are the fruit of that condition.

The Diversity Crowd just doesn't like opinions not a part of their definition of diversity. Some call that ironic when its actually a Great Leap Forward, like Mao wanted.

Raise those little red books and rejoice, comrade Fagola.

“...homosexuality is a defective way of manifesting sexuality, because that has a structure and a purpose, which is procreation.”

He’s saying the same thing basically that Phil Robertson said.

So, is he saying they are born that way or it’s a condition that come on over time (like high blood pressure, his example)?

He is correct. Whatever causes this condition, it’s ridiculous to say it’s not a defect or disability. To say otherwise would be like saying blindness is equal to sight which I sincerely doubt intelligent blind people believe.

We’re so far from reality, if this statement is considered controversial. Of course the preference for sexual relationships that do not produce offspring is a defect. The birds know it, the bees know it, the plants know it, the trees know it.....

I believe it is called Same Sex Attraction Disorder (SAAD). And it is a DISORDER, i.e. not natural. It is not in God’s plan for mankind. How could it be? There would not be a “mankind” otherwise.

Yep. That is what I believe as well. Most of them are born that way. They are messed up and only God can fix them.

It doesn’t really matter. It’s a defect, and it’s for the good of the person in question to correct the defect.

Of course, the gay activists like to say that gay people are born that way, but even if they were, they still need to get fixed.

I think it could result from some sort of chemical imbalance, but most likely it’s psychological. Absent or neglectful father being the commonest cause.

It’s not genetic, and if it were, it would be dysgenic and would not express...except in the first generation. After which there would be low probability of continuity.

Nature doesn’t favor organisms that aren’t equipped to reproduce.

So Homosexuality is a personality disorder brought on by environmental factors, nothing else.

If you include time in the womb as being one of the environment factors, then we may agree; if not, however:

Let’s suppose a physically healthy mother and father, and then consider a pregnancy, difficult or not, wherein the mother experiences substantial (+/-) emotional issues such as profound regret over being pregnant, etc.

How is it possible to discount entirely some “irregularly” in the development of the fetus pertaining to its chemistry, the growth of its wiring, etc? Can there not be some result of the mother’s mental activity in that development? Are there not occasional mistakes in nature?

My liberal mother wouldn’t agree with me that homosexuality is deviant behavior even when I pointed out that it’s a binary choice.

Normative or deviant.

The behavior of the majority is normative, while that of the minority is deviant.

She also wouldn’t agree with me that homsexuality is a disability, as in mental disability.

Liberal have problems with logic, as it undermines most of their wishes.

I think it does matter. Because if they were born that way, then it’s saying that God made them that way.

“Note that he is talking about the condition here, not the sinful acts that are the fruit of that condition.”

There is no need to speak in any other way, as we all fail when it comes to our sinful acts as the fruit of our various individual conditions.

We err when we consider ourselves superior to other sinners. Thinking that way puts us in great peril, and study of the Seven Deadly Sins applies here.
