Tim Tebow Released by Patriots, But Testifies Faith Provides Him 'Peace in Whatever Circumstance'

The New England Patriots have released quarterback Tim Tebow, according to an ESPN report, however, Tebow assured earlier this week that because of his faith he didn't "have to worry about the future."

With quarterback Ryan Mallett's position as backup to franchise player Tom Brady already secure, Tebow's position on the team had been tentative throughout the preseason.

In the Patriots' final preseason game against the New York Giants on Thursday night, Tebow threw two touchdown passes and one interception.

After the game, Tebow told reporters his faith helped the anxiety he may have otherwise felt about his football future.

"I'm blessed, because of my faith, that I don't have to worry about the future because I know who holds my future," Tebow told reporters. "It's something I try to live by. It really gives you a lot of peace in whatever circumstance I'm in."

That same day he tweeted a picture of the text of Psalm 62:5-7 that reads, "Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God. he is my mighty rock, my refuge."

Although Tebow's late-season contributions helped the Denver Broncos reach the playoffs in 2011, he was unable to find consistent playing time with the New York Jets last year and was ultimately released by them before joining with the Patriots in June.

Despite the presence of Patriots' offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, who coached Tebow during his tenure on the Broncos, the quarterback found it difficult to make a breakthrough during the preseason. In three appearances, Tebow only completed 11-of-30 passes, picking up just 145 yards, with a pair of touchdowns and two picks.

He missed his opportunity. Last season he could have played for the AZ Cardinals—as an offensive lineman.

Jerry is willful, and seems to need a new idea.

It is a good idea. Tebow is a man of Christian character.

He’d be a good fit on the Vikings, also. Ponder isn’t going to last 2 games, and Cassel is the perfect backup.

Like he was really given a fair shot. The elite have it in for him since day one.

I am a big Tebow fan, he had his shot. It didn’t work out.

He’ll be fine, just the same.

that’s a joke...right?

Can centers and quarterbacks point out defensive formations anymore?

Amen, Tim! Yet that won't stop the ungodly to determine what you are best suited for.

Big Ben needs a good backup and in some ways at QB their style is a bit similar.

Tebow wouldn't be a good backup because Tebow is not a good quarterback.

Become a TE or FB, Tebow.

I'm not saying players have never changed positions but having spent his whole life at quarterback how much of a chance does Tebow have to change positions now and beat out someone who has been a fullback or tight end for years?

I don’t know what you’ve been watching, but there are 2 similarities I see between Ben and Tim. They are both men and play qb. Beyond that, nothing.

Ben is best out of the pocket making it happen with his arm. Tim is inaccurate in the pocket, just plain awful of the move (unless he runs).

Clearly your head is in hockey and not football. Belicheck would give the devil himself a job if he thought it would help him win. If Tebow could do anything for the Pats to help them win, belichek would have kept him.

Yet there is room for a convicted felon (Vick), an alleged murderer (Lewis, but not Hernandez) and an assortment of thugs that belong in prison, not on a football field.

Buffalo and Jacksonville have no QB, yet they’re scouring the retirement homes and prisons for anyone they can put in a iniform.
