Plan for Westminster Chapel to Host Gay Weddings
The Daily Telegraph (UK) ^ | 3/17/13 | Edward Malnick

For the last 700 years, it has been the main place of Christian worship in the Palace of Westminster, aside from brief periods as a wine cellar and a stable for Oliver Cromwell’s horses.

But now, it seems, the Government has a new role in mind for the chapel of St Mary Undercroft, which is nestled in a crypt beneath Parliament.

Ministers are considering changing the historic Anglican chapel into a multi-faith prayer room – so that it can be used to conduct same-sex weddings.

Under the gay marriage legislation currently passing through Parliament, the chapel will not be able to offer such ceremonies, because the Church of England is to be exempt from the new law.

To get round this and to ensure same sex marriages can be held there, plans have been introduced to convert the room into a multi-faith area.

This would allow gay couples to be wed by ministers from religious denominations such as Quakers and Liberal Jews who have indicated they will perform the ceremonies.

The plans to open the chapel to worshippers of all faiths are being considered by senior parliamentary officials together with Helen Grant, the equalities minister.

The scheme was first proposed by Chris Bryant, the Labour MP and a vocal supporter of the Government's plans to legalise same-sex marriage, in a debate on the legislation.

In response, Mrs Grant pledged to see how the Government could “assist” the MP and has asked officials in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to examine the proposals.

Separately, Mr Bryant wrote a letter wrote to John Bercow, the Speaker of the House of Commons asking him to help lift the restrictions on the chapel so allow gay marriages to be held there.

The Labour MP said he had already received a reply....

Nothing like make-believe priests presiding over make-believe marriages to give things that real authentic feeling. They’d be better off turning the place back into horse stables.

An unnatural act between homosexuals can never be made into a marriage by legal fiat, any more than judges can make cows into horses.

Sorry, homosexuals, your "marriage" will only be a sham, no matter what five fallible (or blackmailed) supremes say.

A step down from being a stable.
