"Catholic Social Teaching" Rears its Ugly Head
http://www.catholicsinalliance.org/simonecgf13113.php ^ | Sister Simone Campbell

"When I started this article about what we face in the 113th Congress, I was focused on the challenge and frustration of trying to govern with an intransigent minority that would rather wreck the economy than grow it. The tea party fringe of the Republican Party has held the government hostage and while their attitude has not changed, what is different is the experience and commitment of others to do what is good for the country. The President’s Inaugural address and the apparent “results” of the Republican “retreat” last week have lightened my mood and encouraged me to think that there are some ways forward."

"At a meeting with Vice President Biden 10 days ago, about ending gun violence in our nation, I realized that fear is at the heart of many of our concerns. The desire to have all sorts of fire arms comes in response to fear of others and fear of government. Negative attitudes toward immigrants seem to be rooted in fear of the stranger and fear about our economic vulnerability. Fear about the implementation of the Affordable Care Act often seems to be rooted in the fear that there is not enough health care to go around and the individual will be left out. Taxes and federal budget issues are often rooted in fear about the impact on business or individuals at the margins of our society. In short it seems to me that many of our issues as a nation are rooted in the same crippling fear."

I came across this "call to action" at my school. Sr. Simone is the disgraceful nun funded by George Soros to undermine the Catholic Church. She perverts the teachings of Jesus in pursuit of her socialist agenda. Meanwhile, she ignores the 4000 unborn babies murdered each and every day by her heroes in the Obama administration. I'm so disgusted by this letter. Government compulsion is not charity. Charity should be personal. Jesus taught us to "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's." Who is this woman to question my faith and my charity because I don't believe in the socialist, progressive agenda of the Left? She wants to bury my future children and grandchildren in debt, so illegals and welfare abusers can exploit our healthcare system.

My mom asked me today when I would return to attending Church on a weekly basis. After reading this letter, I will continue to worship God in my own personal way, and avoid attending a Church that refuses to condemn this progressive liberal nonsense.

I left the church many decades ago as “Revolution Theology” took hold. The embrace of marxism and socialism places the church at odds with many of the Ten Commandments. Especially thou shalt not; steal, covet, bear false witness, and kill to name a few. Good luck to you in the coming days. Christians will be persecuted once again and I believe it will be worse than in Roman days.

Isn’t this the nun who spoke at the Democratic National Convention and tried to make it sound like the Catholic bishops were supporting the Democratic Party?

The ravings of a liberal nun have nothing to do with authentic Catholic social teaching, sorry.

Oh, and the so-called "Catholic" website you're linking to is a well-known front for left-wing Democrats and is supported by Soros.

I’m not a Catholic. But I think the Pope ought to do some excommunications at the very least.

oh my goodness...you seem to have no understanding of how the church works at all. First of all it is VERY deliberate and VERY slow. The Catholic church is not going to condemn her publicly for a long time. They contact her, describe complaints against her, and if necessary convene a liturgical court (very, very rare). The church is NEVER reactionary...individual people do not speak for the church....granted they can cause scandal and misunderstanding, but the church doesn't have the wherewithall to handle, on a personal basis, every dissident among the billions of Catholics in the world.

remain strong in your faith, do your best to counter her misguided works pray for her (remember Paul was a screw up before he was knocked off his high horse)

the world is full of these types, our government has more than their share, the Kennedys and Pelosis among them. The Mass is your best weapon in this scirmish...use it and benefit from it.....it works, every time its tried!!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s the same nun. Catholic universities are indoctrinated by the Left. The bishops should have excommunicated her and Caroline Kennedy following the DNC.

You never leave the Catholic Church. You are baptized and thus a Catholic forever. There may be some similar stories here.

“Catholic Social Teaching” pushed at universities is nothing more than communism. It ignores abortion, euthanasia, homosexuality, etc, while focusing only on wealth redistribution.

This letter was distributed at my university. It’s not isolated to one nun.

They don’t even address the phoney politicians perverting Catholic teaching on abortion and homosexuality. Look at Caroline Kennedy’s speech at the DNC. They could at least publicly condemn these fraudulent Catholics. Instead, they host them at the Vatican, or sit with them at a comedy event in New York.

There’s plenty of good priests, who speak out against the ills of our society. However, as long as the Church allows these radicals to hijack the message, I have no reason to attend their establish. Go to Mass at a Catholic University, and see what I’m talking about. I had a priest at my undergrad school, A Jesuit institution, openly endorse homosexuality, and the young “Catholics” loved it.

Jesus is my Lord and Savior, and my faith in him will falter. However, I’m completely disenchanted with the liberal progressives in catholicism.

Thank you for the kind words. I love The Lord and that is enough for me. I respect the faithful Catholics but I will not be back to the Church nor any church for that matter. Again thanks for the kind words.

The irony is that such types have never bothered to read the encylicals of Pope Leo XIII, or many other papal documents either. Leo makes it quite clear that what the Berrigans and their disciples believe in is in fact the kind of socialism that he raised his voice against. He also opposed the social darwinism that was popular among capitalists of the time and he was not happy with the Statism of the German Reich, which gave the state such power over the people and which for a time engaged in a cultural war with the Church in Germany. Needless to say, the Church was hated by socialists, capitalists, and monarchists. Still is.

I left the church many decades ago as “Revolution Theology” took hold.

The church lost many of us when they showed the depth of humanism that has enveloped its teachings. I received communion as a Catholic for the last time on a Sunday morning in 2000 in a church in Clear Lake, Texas. Flyers were passed out after the mass stating that anyone who was pro-death penalty could not in good conscience receive "Holy Communion'. In all honesty, the church had lost me a long time before then. The happy ending: I found my misplaced faith shortly afterward and never looked back again.

Sr. Simone speaks for herself.

Until she comes out openly saying "Yay abortion", she cannot be excommunicated.

Having a wrong political opinion on government is not excommunicable. Having a wrong opinion on dogma IS close to excommunicable - preaching it is excommunication material

If we just leave instead of staying and fighting, well, that's what the conservative Episcopalians did -- we need good folks like you staying and fighting. Life is not easy -- the fight within the Church is continuous as is the continuous fight against Satan

until she comes out openly and says "I support babykilling (aka abortion)", she can voice her WRONG political opinions. Excommunication is only for preaching evil dogma.

She's a sneaky one -- she won't openly come out like the pastoress who said "Abortion is a blessing"

as per canon law, excommunication is a censure and thus a "medicinal penalty" intended to invite the person to change behavior or attitude, repent, and return to full communion. It is not an "expiatory penalty" designed to make satisfaction for the wrong done, much less a "vindictive penalty" designed solely to punish

The excommunication of Margaret McBride, a former nun in November 2009 was because she SANCTIONED an abortion. This "nun" here is sneaky -- she won't do something like that.

"could not in good conscience receive "

That's false as per canon law. Who created that? I would take that up to the archbishop. They cannot say that when the Church teaching is clearly and has always been, that while it pleads for life, it recognizes that there are heinous crimes

From the Catechism The traditional teaching of the Church does not exclude, presupposing full ascertainment of the identity and responsibility of the offender, recourse to the death penalty, when this is the only practicable way to defend the lives of human beings effectively against the aggressor.

And Pope JP II said It is clear that, for the [purposes of punishment] to be achieved, the nature and extent of the punishment must be carefully evaluated and decided upon, and [the state] ought not go to the extreme of executing the offender except in cases of absolute necessity: in other words, when it would not be possible otherwise to defend society. Today however, as a result of steady improvements in the organization of the penal system, such cases are very rare, if not practically non-existent. —Pope John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae 5

in short, who-ever published those fliers were talking contrary to Church teaching and should have been censured by us.

I'm pro-death penalty for those who deserve it and I recognize that this should be carefully checked and guilt proven beyond all doubts, but then, fry 'em immediately

That's in line with Church teaching which is protection of innocents.

"Catholic Social Teaching” pushed at universities

The magisterium of the Catholic church consists of the Popes and the bishops teaching in union with them. (The word "university" does not appear in the foregoing sentence. Universities don't get to decide what Catholic teaching is.)

Since you're here trashing Catholic social teaching, have you ever read the foundational document of modern Catholic social teaching, Leo XIII's Rerum Novarum? How about John Paul II's response to it, Centesimus Annus? If you're going to trash something, at least take the time to understand what you're talking about.
