“Catholic Social Teaching” pushed at universities is nothing more than communism. It ignores abortion, euthanasia, homosexuality, etc, while focusing only on wealth redistribution.
This letter was distributed at my university. It’s not isolated to one nun.
The irony is that such types have never bothered to read the encylicals of Pope Leo XIII, or many other papal documents either. Leo makes it quite clear that what the Berrigans and their disciples believe in is in fact the kind of socialism that he raised his voice against. He also opposed the social darwinism that was popular among capitalists of the time and he was not happy with the Statism of the German Reich, which gave the state such power over the people and which for a time engaged in a cultural war with the Church in Germany. Needless to say, the Church was hated by socialists, capitalists, and monarchists. Still is.
The magisterium of the Catholic church consists of the Popes and the bishops teaching in union with them. (The word "university" does not appear in the foregoing sentence. Universities don't get to decide what Catholic teaching is.)
Since you're here trashing Catholic social teaching, have you ever read the foundational document of modern Catholic social teaching, Leo XIII's Rerum Novarum? How about John Paul II's response to it, Centesimus Annus? If you're going to trash something, at least take the time to understand what you're talking about.
