Okay . . . being a Halakhic Theocrat who's opposed to a secular, "multicultural" Israel, I'm not going to endorse what this guy's advocating, but nevertheless this is a very interesting story. Note the following:

Since his excommunication from the Council, which is headed by Dr. Azmi Hakim, a member of the Israeli Communist party, he has been forced to move around with bodyguards.

What's that about "the Jews" being "behind Communism" again???

The Greek Orthodox Church in Israel is perhaps the most anti-Semitic of all the churches, so this is really unusual. However, I note the appeal to secular ecumenism and the call for the dilution of the Jewishness of the State, so the story isn't as good as it seems at first.

Let’s see.

Listen to the muslims who want you to live as a 3rd class citizens if they don’t decide to rape your daughters and kill you.

Or join and support a democracy in one of the freest countries in the world and which allows near total freedom of religion

It is a lot easier to be a “Palestinian” in Israel than a “Christian”. The anti-zionists love the Islamists. But the Israeli Government has always been quick to miss any improvements with the Christian community. To have a Pro-Israel Greek Orthodox Priest is a great breakthrough, that must be driven out of the country as quickly as possible.

On the anti-Christian Jewish side as well as the pro-Islam side.

For some reason “Dilution of Israel” is ok with the Department of the Interior, as long as its Muslims.

This is actually kind of a tough one. I don’t think an outsider can easily comment on it. But I fail to see why he should be “excommunicated” from the council for advocating it.

Hey ZC,

Not Christians are Christlike. For example: “Since his excommunication from the Council, which is headed by Dr. Azmi Hakim, a member of the Israeli Communist party”

A Christian would NEVER join the Communist party. Never.

I hope all is well for you.

Glad to see Im Tirzu is supporting this priest.

Christians who ally with Muslims are like Jews who support Obama.

This is indeed an interesting article, ZC, and thanks for posting it.

It's not entirely clear from the article what this "council" is that "excommunicated" him. As I understand, a person can only be excommunicated by their bishop. What this "Orthodox Church Council" headed by the Israeli Communist Dr. Amzi Hakim consists of, I do not know, nor do I know how they could have a ecclesial mandate if they are not constituted by bishops or the Greek Patriarch. Do they they have canonical authority?

Maybe one of our Orthodox brethren or sistren can answer this question.
