I am orthodox and always pack heat in synagogue, but it seems like there have been a lot of even liberal jews arming themselves recently, although I doubt they would carry to the synagogue. I always do and the rabbi welcomes and encourages it. Its Indiana, so we’re mostly conservative. Lots of security emails going around with the high holidays coming up and I smile since we have always been prepared.

I am going with my rabbi to the local gun show in a couple weeks to help him pick his first gun. Some of these people are starting to wake up!!!

NEVER AGAIN!!!

Good for you and your rabbi. I’m glad more people are waking up and coming to the realization that it’s better to be safe than sorry.

L’chaim!

How to remember the (four) days of the week upon which Rosh Hashanah may occur? It's like that famous Dreidel acronym, with a slight difference of a lookalike letter.

Instead of

' נ' ג' ה' ש'

נס גדול היה שם
A Great Miracle happened there.

It's

' ב' ג' ה' ש

בית גדול היה שם
A Great House was there.

(where the Great Miracle happened)

Day 2 ('יום ב) - Monday
Day 3 ('יום ג) - Tuesday
Day 5 ('יום ה) - Thursday
Day 7 (יום שבת) - Saturday

Furthermore, Rosh Hashanah occurs 163 days after the first day of Pesach. The sum of בית גדול היה שם is 815, or 163 x 5.

Ber 2.10. And a river went out from Eden to water the garden; and from there it was divided, and became four heads..

L’Shana Tovah!

Best wishes for the holidays. However, it has been said that on either day there is a much greater chance for war. And given the recent coordinated attacks on 9-11, there might be trouble in the US, either planned or spontaneous.

Something I’ve noted about previous attacks in the US, is that they seem to prefer driving cars into crowds, so that should be considered along with other security measures.

Stay safe.
