Perry's religious talk stirs debate

AUSTIN — Employing deeply religious language that national experts say affords both power and peril for his political career, Gov. Rick Perry in late May told a private group of East Texas business leaders that he was “called to the ministry” at the age of 27, suggested that the governor's office was his pulpit and that God put him “in this place at this time to do his will.”

According to a transcript of the meeting, organized to raise funds for Perry's Aug. 6 “day of prayer and fasting” at Reliant Stadium, the governor stated that property rights, government regulation and a “legal system that's run amok” were threatening the American way of life and that “it's time to just hand it over to God and say ‘God, you're gonna have to fix this.'”

So the Bildeberger candidate likes to use the back drop of religion to sway the masses and burnish his bona fides. What a globalist hack.

I wouldn’t buy a used horse from this guy. But if I did, I’m sure the nag would fall over dead by the next morning.

This article neglects to mention that it’s a pretty standard Christian doctrine to believe all occupations are ministries. Also, the Bible specifically calls government officials ministers in Romans 13:1-7.

Perhaps he can explain how his exceptions on abortion, and his support for hardcore pro-abort, pro-homosexual politicians like Giuliani comport with all this God-talk.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t have any problem with folks talking about their faith, or how it informs their political thought. I just expect the talk to line up with the actions.

If the talk and the actions don’t match, always believe the actions.

Gov. Perry used to be a Democrat. I’ll bet this would not even be an issue if he were running on the Democratic ticket. After all, they’ve got the Reverends Jackson and Sharpton running for office. Didn’t seem to bother the Democrats then.

Bunch of hypocrites.

Bluemoose....I take it you are very anti-Perry, since you post most of the negative articles about him. Who is your candidate?????

I presume not Palin since she, too, is religious. I presume not Bachmann, as she gets her hair “done” every day, like Perry and Mitt.

I believe I'm being analyzed incorrectly.

I was hoping to find some counters to the points in the articles.

I have supported Sarah in the past.

The article stated his comments were controversial, which is true, because there are so many secular people who will take issue with what he said. As a Christian, I don’t have a problem with his comments, because wherever a person is called to be they should use the opportunities that are presented to them to serve Christ. He acknowledged that being in a position of power afforded him chances to advance the cause of Christ. Whether or not he is sincere in his beliefs is not for me to judge.

On the other hand, I could see how secular people might be alarmed by his statements because they might perceive him as trying to preach to people. So, they might think it to be a violation of church and state.

I’m not defending Perry, far from it, but Tuesday morning, Perry came out and said the decision for whether he runs is based on whether or not he can raise the money needed. I question his religious beliefs in light of his campaigning for Rudy Giuliani a few years ago, but in this instance, he is honest and saying it comes down to money.

Or, is it, “Build a Better Burger” as my wife likes to say.

Yup!

Which was also the line from some Beef Council booth at a fair we were part of. Can’t remember which fair it was over the past 20 years we have been doing fairs, but it was a smaller rural fair in either California or Oregon. That was their logo, “Build a Better Burger”, which of course easily transforms to Bilderberger or visa versa.
