Beck's Bogus Beliefs

March 2011

by T. A. McMahon

"Glenn Beck, the television and radio talk show host who is best known for his conservative political views, isn't someone whom we would normally address in our newsletter. Our concerns are usually directed at individuals, programs, or organizations that promote spiritual or theological views contrary to the Word of God. Beck, of late, seems to be making himself at home in that realm, and he's attracting many who call themselves Bible-believing Christians. ...

First of all, Glenn Beck is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He may refer to himself as a Christian, but he's certainly not a biblical Christian. The distinction is as wide as hell is from heaven: "Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God" (2 John:9). Mormon doctrine is "another gospel" that exalts "another Jesus." Both false beliefs came out of the deceived and deceiving mind of Joseph Smith. Secondly, "our country" doesn't have "Christian roots," even though some are claiming that our founding fathers were true Christians. Many were not biblical Christians but Christians in name only, who followed the faith of Deism, Masonry, and the philosophy of the Enlightenment. Any early influence in America's history of a biblical nature very likely came from the Pilgrims and the Puritans...."

Are they the ones who knock on your door, clean your carpet, and then try to convert you?

Those folks are so irritating!

All they wanted to do was clean my carpet...

Some years ago, I worked with a Ward president. I would really press him about their belief that they could become gods. The “God Makers” film was popular at the time. His response was to bring me his copy of Elaine Pagel’s book, “The Gnostic Gospels,” to read.

Ever since then I have been pursuing that connection. I do see a definite Mormon connection with certain Gnostic beliefs. The lead article, though not mentioning Gnosticism by name, had quite a lot to say along these lines.

You seem to think this is irrelevant, the experience I related tells me otherwise.

Define soul.

I am referring to a spiritual, eternal essence in individuals, not a nation.

The American spirit, on the other hand, is what made us great. It is what allowed us to cross the continent, go to the moon and take our place as a world leader.

Spiritually, that is also our greatest handicap. The same can do spirit that made us great leaves us open to religions like Mormonism. A non-Christian religion that tells us “we can do it, just need to do the best we can.” That attitude has permeated many churches. Osteen is a prime example. “We deserve the best, just grab it!”

I have no problem with Becks politics. But when he trots out a false god and Evangelicals swoon, we are asking God’s judgment on out nation.

I don’t know, I never heard him say the end game is to be perfect, just the act of becoming perfect is a never ending process.

"...just the act of becoming perfect is a never ending process."

Can I then infer from your statement, that you don't believe God is perfect?

Oh, look another post by PD that contributes nothing to defending what he says he believes.

Which I am beginning to doubt he actually beleives.

If one is looking for insidious propagandizing on Fox, turn the spotlight on socialist/populists like O'Reilly and Rivera, not on our ally, Glenn Beck.

Amen, Leni!

Even though you are asking a “this or that” question it is not likely you will ever get an answer.
But if that ever happens ping me I don;t want to miss it.

After you are done watching the anti-mormon propaganda, check out the truth. By all means look at their stuff “exposing” whatever.

Here’s a few links to get your started from a different viewpoint. I have found that the vast majority of the “issues” brought up in the anti-Mormon propaganda can be found and addressed at http://www.fairlds.org/ but here’s more:

I agree that they want to get Mormons away from Mormonism. But I dont see them present an alternative. They may quote scripture to “prove” that Mormonism is false, but they dont post much about where to go. How can you tell they are for Christianity if they dont talk about why you should be a Christian?
